The issue there is that initially bringing back past actors wasn't the focus of Decade at all. You can see that they increase the number of returning actors in the 2nd half, after the initial writer leaves due to the creative changes going on in the background.

The reason AU was even used was because previous actors were either unable or unwilling to return. This isn't like Gokaiger where you have three-to-six stars per show. Frankly, it was a miracle that they even managed to gather at least one actor per show. Many of them could only make extremely short appearances. Zyuranger wasn't even gonna have a rep but thanks to the power of coincidence, one of the guys working on the show happened to run into MammothRanger's actor and they managed to arrange for it.

No, the official explanation in the press conference was Shirakura's old Agito-era "the old stories are finished, so rather than continuing them, we'll focus on reimaginations" spiel. It's why every "main" AU Rider was recast, for example, even in cases where they could get the actor, like Kiva. Yeah, obviously they couldn't get everyone - but the issue here is that Decade wasn't even TRYING to get everyone in the beginning of the run. The focus on returning actors only started midway through the series.

Anon, how would you even be able to guarantee that the other actors from Kuuga would return? Also, the true point of Decade was to "remind" audiences of the previous Heisei Riders. Prior to Decade, there were no annual team-ups, so there were kids who didn't even know Kuuga existed. It was imperative that the Riders themselves made appearances.

It's a bit like how in the last two episodes of Wizard, the writers wanted a previous Rider to appear, but the producer said that if it wasn't Godai or Gentarou, there would be no point. They finally settled on Decade, but basically, non-physical appearances aren't really worth much to the producers.

The random returning character would be there to give some legitimacy to the episode to older viewers in the cases where they can't get the Rider himself.

Asuna is pure fan service pandering, and the show treats her as such. That doesn't stop people from discussing her hidden depths with a zeal, however it often falls flat since there seems to be an unusual amount of headcanons about her.

Here's my take on Asuna: she's got no potential because she wasn't meant to be more than eye candy and fan service. Her role in the main story is tiny, her lines are pretty bad, she's the worst offender of the Emu worshipping disease that plagues this show, and the characters don't act normally around her. Her entire character is an insult to basic human interaction in fiction; people wouldn't be okay with someone like Asuna around, and the Riders, especially Emu, wouldn't put up with her trying to be goofy all the time. She's a suffocating, mentally unstable person who's projecting her own problems onto others or downright threatens or coerces others to get what she wants, yet she's treated as a good person and character both by the show and the fans, and I can't understand that.

You know you have problems writing a character when every conversation she's in seems forced an unnatural, and that the people talking to her are reacting in ways no sane person would. Throughout her scenes, all of the things she does or says accumulates, and in my opinion the bad things far outweigh the postives; even if she does or says something that on its own wouldn't be too offensive, the fact remains that if you combine all of the shitty behavior in her scenes, she comes across as a very horrid person.

I just realized, Hiiro is a fucking loser.

He has this tragic backstory that drives his motivation to be a Rider, and yet in the FIVE YEARS he's had his gamer driver, he's made no attempt to actually get any better at using it. He doesn't know anything about the games that power the system, or even about the one game that he specializes in using. He didn't know to open chests to get items, he never managed to get a better sword than the shitty starting one, he's learned more about video games in the last few weeks by accident than in the last five years of supposed training.

Well, he had a lot of forms after all. More forms than any other Rider at the time. Possibly more than even OOO, depending on certain unknown factors.

He did tend to use at least one alternate form per episode, which was normal for most Riders. It's just that since he only had thirty episodes, he didn't really get to make great use of them.

Also, his base form might have been too strong and convenient. Unlike the Gokaigers, who have really basic abilities when not using their keys, Decade has a lot of useful powers even without KamenRides and FormRides. Prior to then, it was rare for a Rider to have both a melee and ranged weapon available to him in his base form. He also he had an invisibility/teleportation power and the ability make two to eight copies of himself.

In the original series it shone to indicate they were using their built-in radar or long range communication.

In the Heisei series it's mostly just a design remnant from the previous Riders, although the official specs generally still say they're tied to enhanced senses, but there's rarely any actual use in the shows themselves. Decade's is what channels the energy of the Final Form Ride though.

I think OOO almost uses it with Hawk and whatever blue combo's head was' special function. Though I think Hawk gave more of an 'eye' focus, the thermal vision might have been legitly done.
