Well lads, we made it. Twelve long years, but we made it. This post goes out to all the lil' Gfans who didn't make it.

This is my rarest Orga. I commissioned it from Papa Franku himself. Thought I'd share it with you lads. Not sure how much longer these threads will last, but I doubt they'll stick around for too much longer. Maybe Legendary 2 will happen sooner than expected.

Nice. How much was it?

Say what you will about the movie itself, but I loved how they gave Godzilla a personality that was pretty much a grumpy old man dealing with some goddamn kids on his lawn.

A mere twenty shekels. He didn't even have that much of a waiting list at the con, I was surprised.

He did a panel with some other guys too. It was fun, but nothing remarkable happened.

There's one going around, but they used the wrong font for Shin.

IMO it could use other updates, like headshots for all the designs and clearer pics for some. Other things kinda bug my autism too, like the inconsistent inclusion of puppets and the Cybot. It's a great Goji-guide but why not make it perfect?

Just saw it for the second time with yurop stepsister.
I love how both people I've gone to seen it with really liked it. She was just gushing about it afterwards (she found kamata kun really creepy), in contrast to when she apparently fell asleep watching G14.
I noticed the use of decisive battle much more this time, and theater wasn't packed like on first night, but those were the only real differences I noticed.

Where do the form-nicknames come from? Like Kamata-kun? I see something about a Kamata Station, are they named after the areas they rampaged? Does Kamata mean tadpole? Was it designed by a Kamata-san?

Hey friends, so here's a collection of most every Godzilla roar from '54 to '14 in individual .mp3 files. It's not 100% inclusive, as I took out some grunt-y ones and pain shrieks, but it's still a shitload of roars.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/6h0wwctu40xwknc/Godzilla_Roars.rar

Use it for ringtones, notification sounds, or, like me, to shuffle out of a bluetooth speaker in your Godzilla costume this weekend.

Happy Halloween, brothers.

Hopefully by the end of November. There's no real reason why Funi couldn't release it then other than they suck sometimes.
>>
>>14870394
Is there any real basis to the idea that certain non-Godzilla Toho monster movies exist in the same continuity as the Showa Godzilla movies, and stuff like the lone Mothra and Rodan films? I know they included the monster from Gorath in the backstory of the Kiryu films, but are there recurring elements between those other Showa films and the Showa Godzilla films?
>>
>>14870349

Mods have ruled that /m/ is the home of toku. That includes Godzilla
>>
>>14870504
Rodan and Mothra were in Godzilla movies, presumably after their own
Rodan is probably another Rodan like the Godzilla after the original is another Godzilla and they became battle buds
and Mothra is another incarnation of the sort of immortal Moth monster who is sort of Big Gs friend as well
>>
>>14870669
Thanks, but Rodan and Mothra were obvious. I'm wondering which if any of the following belong in the Toho Showa Kaiju Cinematic Universe:

>Frankenstein Conquers the World/Frankenstein vs. Subterranean Monster Baragon

>The War in Space/The Great Planetary War: The War in Space
>Half Human/Monster Snowman
>Space Amoeba/Gezora, Ganime, Kamēba: Decisive Battle! Giant Monsters of the South Seas
>Great Desperate Monster Battle: Daigoro vs. Goliath

>GINO
Godzilla in name only, featured in G98.

>Godzilla (Series)
The offspring of GINO, often called Godzilla/Jr. due to him earning the title.

The GINO featured in Final Wars.

>Zilla(IDW)
The Zilla featured in the IDW Godzilla comic series.

It's true though, Zilla and Godzilla are two separate things.
Mentioned once in one movie with two characters saying how the U.S. had a monster attack but Japan doesn't think it's the real Godzilla, then Zilla gets rekt as distinct entity in Final Wars.

While I largely agree with you, ShodaiGodzilla did intentionally roast people with his breath and taunt the military. ShinGoji is usually aloof until it absolutely necessary to act. It would have been nice if he was slightly more aggressive during the finale, growling and moving more erratically or at least quicker. Nevertheless, it was still a neat sequence.
>>
>>14872174
But due to legal reasons, in pre-2004 material and any re-releases thereof, Zilla is still Godzilla. Which is why even later releases of the '98 movie had to be stamped with the official Godzilla trademark icon instead of the Zilla one.

And that's also the reason why you can still see fans arguing over the details on random websites. Like, most consider the renaming a giant retcon, but there are other people who are adamant that the 98 creature IS still Godzilla (or at least one version of him) and Zilla is a different character that merely shares its design and traits. (And that's not even getting into the minority subset of 98-fans and clueless kids to whom Zilla is the definitive version of Godzilla and refuse to accept any other variant.)
>>
>>14871578
I figured Shin was more a creature "In the world" rather than "Of the world".
He didn't understand anything or know why he existed, with mostly acting based on instinct.

The only time(s) he become aware was after getting bunker bombed and the entire ending.
After learning that this world can actually harm him, he reacted to anything that moved for the most part was a threat and will be deposed of.
>>
>>14871091

So it seems like the Japanese OST has a different arrangement of "Who Will Know":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uirF6FDKxSU

compared to the one used in the film:

Or rather, it looks like the beginning of the version from the Japanese OST is different from the film

Honestly, the Zilla 98 design itself isn't that bad for a Kaiju. It's not Godzilla, but I think she could be a worthy addition to the Godzilla world especially with the powers of Zilla jr.

Make it that she has Godzilla's powers but she has less firepower/durability, which is a pay off for extreme mobility.

How about this:

In the '98-only universe, it's Godzilla. GMK and Final don't exist in the '98-only universe.

In the GMK and Final universes, the same movie happened, and it's exactly the same, but it's called Zilla.

So in terms of IP, they'll still call Zilla Godzilla, because in his solitary universe he's a real Godzilla, even though in most universes, and in fan consensus, he's Zilla.

I doubt anyone involved will have much significant experience with an undertaking such as this, so I suggest keeping the project short and simple. Considering this would be a western production, it'd be interesting to do more with merging western Superhero sensibilities with the Tokusatsu style. Like having recurring rogues over MotWs, a heavier emphasis on the region of operations, etc.,

Thing is, it'd be very easy to slip into the tried and true Spider-Man archetype, which would be a little TOO easy if you get what I'm saying.

New to the franchise here. Would nuking Shin Godzilla the way the UN wanted to actually kill Godzilla? Either way, why do you believe so?
>>
>>14875625
Don't fucking use nukes against Godzilla. He's a walking reactor and all that shit would do would be to give him more energy.
>>
>>14875479
Jesus, I love that design. Never heard of this before, torrents abound?
>>
>>14875625
Nope. The sheer amount of heat might have injured him greatly, but he would have just used the resulting fallout to regenerate and become stronger than ever.
>>
>>14875625
Normally it would not because most of the time Godzilla has survived a nuke in the first place.

This one however was created from nuclear waste, not a bomb.

On the other hand at least one scientist made a point that the nuke may not work and Godzilla is immortal, which is a common theme of the franchise.

Considering how fast Godzilla healed his wounds from the stealth bomber attack, it is entirely possible the nuke would have incinerated Godzilla, but then the radiation would have immediately reformed him.

you guys seem overly defensive about a movie people have polarizing opinions on. Newsflash - people don't have to like the retarded laser beams, the penis tail, the tail face, the Evangelion Godzilla people coming out of Godzilla at the end, or the stupid Blade 2 Vampire jaw. We don't even NEED to see the movie to think those things are stupid thanks to the trailers, because WE'VE ACTUALLY SEEN THEM NOW. I've not once said this movie sucks. I can't speak to the quality of the film itself on my own and I will not do that until I watch the film, but I can speak to the iffy CG, the stupid physics of the train attack, or all the stuff I don't like because (again) I've actually seen these things in the trailers or pictures. And this movie is getting FAR from universal praise. Ed G, August, Norman England, and a recent review in Ashai (http://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/AJ201608120006.html) have all skewered the film. So whether YOU like it or not has nothing to do with the rest of us, and calling people FANBOYS is hilarious considering you seem like one of those people who get upset because someone doesn't agree with you. Frankly, this monster barely seems like Godzilla to me, and the shitty CG laser beams and significant amount of changes to the character bear that out

I watched the movie last week but was too busy to write about it. Just finished my writeup.

Depending on who you ask, the film is either a groundbreaking zeitgeist-capturing masterpiece (a word used so frequently and hyperbolically here that it has virtually lost all meaning) fully harnessing the eccentric genius of writer and director Hideaki Anno--with little mention of co-helmer Shinji Higuchi--or a paean to bureaucracy and militarization with some dubious visual effects that uses copious verbal and on-screen information as a superficial veneer of profundity.

Early hints of the direction this reboot would take could be found in news articles in the long lead-up to its release, which touted the size of its cast (328 strong) as one of its main selling points.

This embarrassment of acting riches includes blink-and-you’ll-miss-them parts from leading role-class performers, as well as cameos from series veterans and several film directors, with even the late Kihachi Okamoto appearing in photo form. Few of them have more than a handful of lines, but it all adds up to a gargantuan amount of dialogue. Dialogue isn’t the right word though, as people generally talk at rather than with each other. In fact, these are not so much characters as information delivery systems. The rule here is tell, don’t show.

Actors’ mouths aren’t the only things that are overloaded. Every speaking character, job title, location, and significant piece of machinery is introduced by on-screen text, even nondescript corridors and meeting absentees. Much of it is too briefly displayed and voluminous to be readable even for native speakers, and none of it is really necessary.

It was the kick in the ass the Genre needed to become relevant again.

Consequently, the film unfolds with the empty bluster of an overcompensating motormouth otaku, incessantly mumbling mountains of memorized factoids to distract a captive audience from his lack of substance.

Satomi Ishihara's role is reminiscent of the bumbling comic relief role she played in Higuchi’s “Attack on Titan.” Her Japanese-American special envoy character is completely out of step with the film’s serious tone and aspersions to realism, and instead embodies its insular and insecure Galapagos mentality.

She makes her first appearance wearing a leather jacket, pronounces loan words with an exaggerated foreign accent, and asks if she can talk in casual Japanese because the honorific form is too difficult. Her Japanese is otherwise fluent, while her English is clearly non-native, which doesn’t say much for Ishihara’s time as a spokesmodel for English conversation school Aeon.

Just as the face of its full-CG star still has the stony expressionlessness of the man-in-a-suit days, time isn’t enough to change ingrained mindsets. The tagline is “Japan versus Godzilla,” but the subtext is “Japan versus the world.”

Peel all of that window dressing away and you’re left with a sliver of a story, a surplus of single-trait characters, and an emphatically-stated message to domestic viewers: “trust your government officials, because they know what they’re doing - and they’re Japanese.” Make no mistake- This film is nothing more than nationalistic propaganda. Propaganda at its finest, but still propaganda.

I think the concept of "cognitive dissonance" is the term to use with many if not most of the naysayers grabbing onto the literal handful of reviews that are "panning" this movie. There is some form of validation if they can latch on to the apparent minority that agrees with them.

Guess what? Long time Godzilla fans aren't the only ones praising this movie. Casual fans, which you could probably argue is the majority of Japan, are praising this movie. You know why? Because like Gojira it has something else to say besides destruction porn and fighting monsters.
>>
>>14878600
Ironically, Shin Godzilla is about politics. In fact, the imagery might invoke 3-11 references, but a lot of the film is about far-right policies and is rather nationalistic in its approach. That's one of the reservations I have with the film, but no doubt one of the reasons many people in Japan like it. There's a lot going on right now, and Shin certainly captures that.

It's a militaristic right-wing mess about how great the JSDF is and how they should rearm Japan, that takes every chance it has to insult the US, and depicts women as either sociopaths (the minister and the scientist) or drooling idiots (the "American" lady who can't speak English) while all the problems are solved by tall clever handsome supercompetent men. It's misogynistic to the core and echoes all the problems in Japanese society, especially in the mindset of shut-in loser otaku like the director, Anno. One of the worst movies I've ever seen, period. It's not even a real kaiju movie, because 99% of the film is just Anno soapboxing his politics using bad actors as mouthpieces. There's barely any acting, because the people in the film just constantly spew out non-stop political rhetoric, which takes the place of any form of plot. What little monster action there is in the film is abyssmal- Godzilla's first form is hilariously out of place and despite being CG somehow manages to look like a bad puppet from a black and white era film. The CG in general is pathetic, and what little practical effects there are looks like a child playing with his toy trains. Godzilla himself starts off looking intimidating enough but falls victim to the bad CG when he starts moving faster and shooting lasers at the beginning of the second act. The film has no climax either, as the biggest confrontation is midway through the film, while the final confrontation is done by force-feeding the big lizard some sort of chemical through giant straws mounted on cement trucks. It's so cheap that it's just sad. I am very disappointed.
>>
>>14878649

Criticizing a movie for its message is the same as praising it for the same reason. A movie is not objectively good or bad because you agree or not with it, but I guess they liked being told that they can take care of themselves if they unite and put effort into it.
>>
This is the first film in the series to go for the jugular in trying to elicit rah-rah support for the military and sympathy for the government, like the blatant flag-waving found in Roland Emmerich’s 1996 sci-fi epic “Independence Day.” Godzilla was originally imagined as a metaphor for the horrors of war and the devastation war brings to people, whether deserved or not, and how this new approach will play domestically and internationally is anyone’s guess.

Norman England is a life-long Godzilla fan and former reporter for Fangoria magazine who has spent months on “Godzilla” film sets and saw “Shin Godzilla” last month at a special industry screening. He notes a dramatic departure in the new film from the series’ traditional pacifistic stance.

The general consensus on 2channel is that people who go in looking for a message will find one, but for the most part it's neutral and just tries to handle things realistically. Everything that happens is the film is what would happen in real life in the same situation.

The fact is that the movie has an optimistic tone and message. If, let's say, North Korea decided to invade Japan, they wouldn't have a magical solution to defend themselves unless they called for help.
>>
>>14878679
>Uses "Eye shields" to prevent burns and damage to eye when attacked and using Beam.
>Has no tongue to burn off during atomic breath/Beam.
>Opens lower jaw to prevent damage from reason above.
>Runs out of power after each Beam attack.
>Can overheat, resulting in a rush back to the ocean.
and on so.
>>
>>14878686

No, USA would solve it, that is the reality and that would have been the reality in the movie if they weren't lucky enough to have a miraculous solution.
>>
>>14878696

That would have made it a real propaganda film if you think about it, it would show that Japan is truly defenseless and dependant on foreign help when the actual movie offers us a solution in which everyone helps to defeat the monster in one way or another.

Best selling movie ever in the franchise and most successful Godzilla movie over seas in the last 20+ years. Yeah, it's good and we're doing good work.

I'm buying the BD later on when it comes out and watching it properly.

>Ed G, August, Norman England
Bitter old fanboys who let personal bias get in the way and hate the movie primarily because they interpret the message as the complete opposite of how it is presented?

They're scared now, because they are becoming increasingly irrelevant in the internet age and they are not the only voice the fandom has anymore. Japanese fans love it, many Japanese critics have praised it, American critics who know what they are talking about have praised it, many of the western fans who went into it with no bias have loved it.

Just watched the camrip. Haven't been keeping up with the discussions here because I didn't want to get spoiled.

Now then, what the FUCK was up with the Zillamen?

They are the final form of Godzilla which mimics the human being, the only predator capable of beating him.

That moment when Shin Godzilla is the beginning of two different Universes.

>U1: Godzilla evolves into a humanoid form, and becomes a being of light when fully charged.

Godzilla reproduces like a sponge, which reproduces like a cell using division. My guess is that when it had come into enough human DNA contact, Godzilla's biology incorporated some of that into his mini miis.

At least it's somewhat justified with the limited release. If a camrip came out the first few days a lot of people probably wouldn't have bothered to see the movie.

Lemme check my numbers.....

It says they are 7.86222 (repeating of course) meters long. Their main attribute is their quick grow coupled with an intelligence much closer to humans in that they will use team work to fight and hunt. How the fuck would I know dude? I'm just a guy that pretends to be a girl online.

>In fact, the imagery might invoke 3-11 references, but a lot of the film is about far-right policies and is rather nationalistic in its approach.
Really?
I got the impression that it was more centered and Globalistic.
Not even the JSDF is all that thrilled about actually being used as an armed force, while the first act outright lampoons politicians prioritizing maintaining the status quo over actually taking action.

Now while America didn't have the BEST representation, the decision to actually NUKE Godzilla was handed down by the UN Security Council, hence how the FRENCH Seat was able to buy time for the Operation in the first place.
Then we've got a scene with the German Computing Scientists, one of whom doesn't want to give the G-team access to their system for security reasons, but his elder chastises him for not having faith in his fellow man.

>The general consensus on 2channel is that people who go in looking for a message will find one, but for the most part it's neutral and just tries to handle things realistically.
Yes, Anno is a master at using/abusing ambiguity.
Hell, he makes things so vague that I've seen a lot of american reviewers have an undercurrent in opinion that Shin Godzilla is basically innocent...

U4: Godzilla's insane cellular physiology creates a new era of clean nuclear power and other super science stuff...
> My guess is that when it had come into enough human DNA contact, Godzilla's biology incorporated some of that into his mini miis.
...BUT said "G-cells" can also incorporate the memories/consciousness of other organism as well as biology.
A single "Zillerman" is extracted intact for research purposes BUT:

>U4a: Like the Dai-Kaiju it spawned from, this creature is fulled solely by Dr Goro Maki's HATE for the rest of humanity and starts wreaking shit.
>Lab Scientists make heroic sacrifice by firing the fail-safe "Gamma Gun Array" which blast the Zillerman with the equivalent power of a million conventional fusion bombs, but turns the Labsite into a mini Chernobyl.
>We start destroying Godzilla bit by bit via Thermo-nuclear incineration furnace, starting with the other Zillermen, but Godzilla himself of course wakes up before any serious damage is done, resulting in the eventual deployment of an experimental humanoid fighting robot, the Jet Jaeger, as a nuclear explosion would only kill a majority of the G-cells but spread the surviving ones to the four winds.

>U4b: Zillerman actually inherited the consciousness of one of Godzilla's victims, a young woman absorbed during the first rampage.
>Having pretty much literally died as a result of Godzilla's destruction, she readily agrees to become the first Not!Eva, a Gigantic Humanoid Anti-Godzilla Weapon.
>Goro-zilla however senses this as he is waking up, and basically wills the other Zillermen to wither and die so they can't be turned against him, leaving our Not!Eva protagonist the only one who can fight him.
>Que epic series of battles between our heroic UltraZillerWoman and horrific Goro-zilla, culminating in both adapting flight forms to go into low orbit before finishing via incinerating re-entry piledriver.
>Our Protagonist miraculously survives this though forming a human-sized Godzilla Monster Girl form deep in her core, but is haunted by Goro final warning that the now indispensable G-cells can still be used to create monsters like them.

How would you guys want to see Shin Godzilla 2 go down?

>New mad scientist character is introduced
>He pressures the government into moving Godzilla to a safer area away from citizens
>Goji is hoisted by cables away from Tokyo
>Scientist drops him into mount Fuji
>Little does the government know that the heat thawed Goji out and caused him to evolve a more rugged, heatproof hide leading to a more traditional appearance
>It also causes him to build up heat much more quickly, his body adapts by releasing excess heat in the form of a super-heated atomic spiral ray
>Godzilla slowly heads to Tokyo once more, though there's been reports of more odd activity near mount Fuji
>One of the humanoids had also evolved, though into a much more destructive form
>Army gets called in to investigate, their jets and communications are knocked out as bolts of electricity ripple throughout the sky
>The scientist is being investigated
>The scientist's name is Daisuke Serizawa

Who is it? Ghidorah doesn't shoot lightning, and why would the two fight if they spawned from the same source?
>>
>>14879869
and then, if you watch the rest of that scene, they say "our he is a she. and she is nesting."
>>
>>14879886
Ghidorah shoots gravity bolts, though since this is the Shingoji universe, his abilities wouldn't be limited so mere gravity beams, the bolts of electricity would be like his wing bolt attack in Rebirth of Mothra 3, as Shin Ghidorah would likely be able to release EMPs along with the gravity beams. The gravity beams themselves would gravity to increase in whatever spot they hit, then rapidly decrease, causing an implosion that then becomes an explosion, smashing the target's atoms together and then ripping them apart incredibly quickly, besides this Ghidorah could also absorb radiation directly from the sun and release it in solar pulses
>>

Meant to say "would cause" not "would gravity"

You're confusing '98 Godzilla with Jurassicc Park.

In Jurassic Park, some of the all female dinosaurs became male and mated with the remaining females.

In Godzilla, they just assumed it was a "he" until evidence showed it was a female.
