Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

You just noticed that the HGUC line is taking it easy while IBO/The Origin/Build Fighters kits take priority? It was like this with IBO/The Origin last year and G-Reco/BF Try kits the year before.

The HGUC line is dried up on kits Bandai knows would be profitable between 0079-Unicorn, anything from F91 on is too much for a risk for them, and Revives are reserved for only really old HGUCs/Seed HGs from the early 2000s that have aged poorly. Sure you'll have a Zeta Revive or a Dom revive, but putting out stuff from what's currently airing takes priority over rehashes of already released kits.

No they did their end of the bargain. Every Protagonist suit has a kit in the HGUC line now (Counting CE/AW/FC/AC releases) excluding 00, AGE, and IBO stuff which don't really need them since their kits are still fairly decent.

Mainly because Char piloted them. If the RG Zaku II was released today, the MP variant would be P-Bandai just like the MP Z'Gok.

Most of the Revives tend to stem from architecture they have from Build Fighters kits with a few exceptions. There's a good map to look at for what to expect next.

So no scans/pics from the mags yet? I won't be able to get my new mag and Gundam Ace til Wed. If nothing's popped up by then, I'll throw some up.

All of the origin kits, all of the thunderbolt kits, basically any HG made after 2010 (even some before it). Thicker designs tend to be more sturdy for obvious reasons. The Jegan variants are especially sturdy and great builds, a no brainer if you like fed suits. I think I would use the jegan joints to build a custom kit if I were going to do an HG size.

I was actually considering starting with an IBO kit like the Ryuseigo, where the midline of the chest is already kind of close, then scratchbuild out from there to the shoulders and waist. The legs look a little like something from 00, but would probably take some further kitbashing and scratch-building. I might use the Kotobukiya folding arms and build on the armor around them.

Though to be honest half the fun with the design is it's an in-setting excuse to slap on your favorite parts from any other kit.

Yeah I think you've got enamel thinner there, it's not going to work for the acrylics.

Try using water with a bit of rubbing alcohol mixed in to thin, mix 4:1 water to alcohol and then use that to thin. The more alcohol you add the faster it will dry which may not be good if you are handpainting.

Test all of this of course.

How do you recover from a loss?

What I mean is, I've fucked up kits and all in the past, but I always tend to either push forward, or sit aside the kit I don't like to build one I do. However my latest issue has me a bit depressed.

Was working on the Dom Test Type from Origins, great kit, was enjoying it quite a bit, and was getting ready to finish it up this week... then Saturday happened.

I had the kit in my car, ready to build that night at work. Someone broke into my car, stole a bunch of shit, including my Dom Test origins and the 2 pack Ball kit I had sitting in my car.

It's not too bad but you've completely mixed up your colour layers. You've got the light red as your upper layer according to the torso and shoulders, but the head is the reverse. Not to mention the orange elbows look very out of place. What I'd do is mentally separate the armour plates into the layers in which they're bolted on before colouring. You also want to make the light red the dominant colour, rather than sharing it with the darker red.

Gali and Ein's Grazes are both Bandai Premium kits.

The Graze Ein is in stock in 1/144 at HLJ as a regular kit.
The Gaelio Schwalbe is a P-Bandai, yes. But it's still just a Schwalbe Graze, so a purple paint job and the Option Kit Lance would convert a McGillis Schwalbe to a Gaelio Schwalbe. Might be a tiny bit more work on the lance arm, but it's not too impossible.

Any tips for keeping old kit boxes from getting all saggy? I like to keep the boxes from bigger/rarer kits to keep extra parts in but the sides always get all blown out.

I considered it but ultimately decided on getting a second Nu Ver. Ka and making a custom paint.

The Nu Ver Ka is a HUGE kit and a fairly long build, even longer when painting/decals are applied. but it is my favorite MG Kit and I strongly recommend it. the FA is a bit of a ripoff but if you've never built a Nu Ver.Ka and you ge thte chance i'd say its worth, especially since i belive it is around the price of the Sazabi Ver Ka

So when they designed the IBO mobile suits they had a guy form Bandai saying "You can't design it like that because it will look shitty on the toy." or "Make this part sturdier, because the toy would get flimsy"
You can really see that they made the mobile suit designs just to sell toys. I'd even go as far as to say that they made the toy first and then put them into the anime.

That has been part of the process of Gundam design, hell, mecha design since its conception anon. There are some exceptions. A good number of Nagano's stuff, for example, but still.

Even dumb shit like the Dendobrium and Neo Zeong are made with the kits in mind.

Only for big animated franchises like Gundam. For other stuff like manga and video games there is rarely ever a situation where a toy/kit comes before the designs. Just look at Zeorymer, ZOE, Dragon's Heaven, Quo Vadis, etc. Even Armored Core and SRW OG took years before any of them got decent kits and figures.

Nagano didn't want to compromise his designs for the sake of a bunch of cheap $10 High Grades, so he focused on the expensive resin kit market instead. Not impossible to model, but a totally different audience than your typical Gunpla snapbuilder.

They was also a squad in one of the MS Igloo s where they had captured Zakus and would decimate Zeon bases when they would show right in the front door.

There were 2 limited HGUCs. I bought them from the Bandai Museum when I saw the movies.

45% humidity should be fine. Unless you are painting in near freezing temperatures or spraying very fucking close the only thing I can think of is that you are using the wrong kind of paint.
