Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

The original idea was a sort of heat sword thing made from one of the blades from the Amazing Red Warrior, a piece of the MG Aile Strike's backpack, and a spare 1/144 handle (Think it was a bazooka, it's been a few months). I decided not to use it for this since the build evolved into a more ranged support unit, and I figured physical melee weapons fit Zeek shit better than a GM.

It helps to have been building kits for several years now, so you've got a lot of old junked kits from the early years that you're trying to salvage (Most of them are SEED hand-me-downs from my older brother who wasn't all that great at building, but you'll eventually have a few spare rifles or beam sabers lying around.

As for the process it's really just throwing things together trying to see what works. in the case of that heat sword it was just a stroke of luck when that red piece fit in fairly easily.

Just gluing stuff together works, really. This rifle for example is just the EZSR shoulder cannon with the joint removed, and one of the EZSR arm guards and a beam saber glued to it. Although, I kinda stole this idea from that guy on /toy/ who made that Grimoire with the light-up head.

Honestly this should be doable, but you're going to need some non-Gundam things. Go to a toy store and find a pair of cheap plactic pop guns to cut apart for the shoulders, maybe a cheap cowboy action figure for the hat. Scale is going to be the bitch, you're going to need to either carry some of the parts with you to check before you buy or else have the measurements on hand to compare.

Then it's a matter of figuring out how close the rest of it is to Maxter, or if you'll need another kit to approximate the limbs.

Because you CAN sort of approximate, that's the point of scratch build. It doesn't have to be absolutely perfect, you can find the best equivalent and make up the difference with putty and paint. If you're really good you can build from plamo plates.

The point is you have to try.

Here, this was my first kit bash, putting the Master Gundam together with the Titus from AGE. It seemed like a simple idea, but the shoulder joints were completely different and needed heavy re-engineering to fit. It can be done.

sand, prime and paint if you're going for single colors, also remember to put together pieces closes to each other (2 sides of same leg, etc)

build them if you want to testfit some camouflage patterns.

Lets say i want to move the spots where the saber handles sit from an Mk-II pack and fit them to the skirt.
Would it be better to use the hobby knife and remove the thin piece that keeps it in place from the pack or should i use putty or something and make my own holder

Those arent bad, but I would get like a little tray ( I use a round paint dish) and get a little bit of that paint on there and use a fine tip brush. A lot of guys I know use the citadel layer brush, or if you want to go crazy, use the citadel artificer brush to paint those fine details. You can always use some thinner to clean up the paint on your Stark Jegan too, if you ever want to give it another go.

I also stuck it on the foil sheet for my Star Winning and then cut out each decal. It's a bit hard to apply and gets some wrinkles but imo it doesn't look too bad if you don't want to paint to get that effect.

Also finished paint for this guy today, fun build and the sticker masking for the MSV stripes worked really well, I really hope they do more kits with those sticker options so I can do more colors. Still finishing the bazooka and axe.

Guys! I need help now
I primed the parts with Citadel white primer and used Humbrol spray white gloss.
Despite using primer paint still reacted with plastic.
Now I gave a second coat of primer to rest of parts but will it work?
And why FFS primer didn't prevent reaction? It was primed well

2nd kit, had no problems with paint on 1st one.
Oh and one more thing: when I use humbrol aluminum spray, Citadel primer prevents it from reacting with plastic, but with white paints from 2 different manufacturers it does not.

No no as I said I use sprays, specifically for this question Citadel white primer, Tamiya pearl white and Humbrol white gloss.
Recommended range from all of them is 20-30 cm, I like it to keep in the middle.
Beetween coats? Few minutes, longer for primer

Citadel primer is expensive and not very well liked in general. Tamiya fine surface primer is great stuff if you can find it. Are you in the UK judging by what you're using?

Enamel have stronger solvents and can dissolve coats below that haven't cured, much less fully dried.

Also because enamels are oil based, they stay wet longer. Then you sprayed a lacquer spray can over the top, which has even stronger solvents

Your tamiya spray has reacted with your enamel white because it wasn't dry enough to not get dissolved by the solvents in the lacquer spray.

If you don't know what type of paints you are using or how they will interact, you need to let the preceding coat dry much longer. You can spray paints in nearly any order you want IF you let the first coat CURE.

Spray in your bathroom, but make sure to wear a painter's mask.
Let the kit sit in there maybe 30 minutes to dry before moving it to another room. Have the vent running during the process, but once the kit is out, just run your hot shower for about 10 minutes with the vent. The steam should cause the fumes to rise and leave through the vent. I do it when it's too hot outside.

I feel like something is going to have a flight mode because of the vidar's part design, I think the blades flip forward and the feet spin on the ball and straighten out. Flauros' backpack clearly locks back into a straight up position like you would need for a flight mode.

Right now the Chinese economy is going through a boom so their currency is getting stronger, combined with the fact that the Japanese currency is purposely being deflated by the PM, means that having shit get made in China is hella expensive for Japanese companies these days. Just look at the Robot Spirits line and how its prices have literally doubled the past couple of years.

Going to the page you got that picture from, here is another older Volks kit to the right from 2 years ago- it was also 11,000 yen. But look at how much larger it is. In just a couple years, the price of toys and kits manufactured in China had gone up that much.

The thing is that Mika and Akihiro already have their signature Gundams, Orga is not a fighter, Eugene pilots the boat and doesn't really seem to have an interest in getting in an MS, and everybody else is a literally who.

On top of them pushing it hard that Hush wants to pilot an MS, his inferiority complex and having grand goals and no AV set him up as a counterpart to Mikazuki, so of course he will be the one to pilot the new Gendum, rivalry works better that way and I think Tekkadan needs once since they are actually partnered with the Char of this series now, they can't bash nameless jobber pirates forever, and the Arianrhod Fleet is something that has to be drawn out a little so they won't be dealt with until around ep 12 probably.

Being able to work on custom builds again after a year is a treat. The f2000 is such a cool design, but it's such a brick. After doing this testfit, I might go back to using the gouf custom's torso. The f2000's torso is almost comically wide.

Probably won't have it done in time for the group build, but I'd rather take my time with this one than rush and end up with something I'm dissatisfied with.
