***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

The stretched out legs aren't even my biggest issue with Katoki's redesigns; It's the way he shrinks the head and torso to such minuscule sizes that makes his stuff look so horrible to me.

== ACE PILOT GROUP BUILD ==

Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

Prizes include:
>1st Place: Any HG kit under $25 + an Action Base 2
>2nd Place: Any HG kit under $15
>3rd Place: An Action Base 2
(Note: Shipping is to USA and Canada only)

Group build ends on October 31st, get building!

if you dont think your paints when using an airbrush it will just clog and damage the brush instead of model.

also get an ultrasonic cleaner while you're at it. it works wonders with both airbrush and model pieces.

So I finally finished my first ever Master Grade. I made a few mistakes but luckily nothing that broke or ruined the basic framework. Be honest with me, did I do alright? And if you could I would really appreciate some advice for future MG projects
>>
>>14692140
the waist and legs were the first things I assembled due to hearing that breaking problem
once I did it, the mechanism is pretty clever to give extra range of movement, but it seems really fragile, so you want to be extra careful with it
I suggest to sand down a bit the pegs of the pelvis and thighs connectors to eliminate any friction and make them rotate and move more smoothly

4chan strips metadata from photos when they're uploaded. Try saving the photo as a new image after you've rotated it.

Those only work on waterslide decals.

Anything else like stickers or dry transfers don't melt and bond to the plastic.

Mg 3.0 Vs. Origin
Which should I get?
>>
>>14693627
origin for all the extras.
3.0 looks cool but in reality its just a bigger Real Grade
>>
>>14693632
This. Origin has so many optional parts that make it worth getting over the 3.0, and any add-on kits for the 3.0 are still compatible with it.

And personally, I like the design of the Origin better. Also not a fan of the grey on the 3.0.

Finally I can join here. Snapbuild my first Gunpla ever, was really easier then expected, thought I would fail at the moon runes. Gunpla building was really fun, unlike Revell models I used to build, I was really suprised that I actually really needed no glue at all.

So, after this first, fast build for the first time, whats a good Gunpla to try coloring on? I would probably use Citadel colors, as Im used to them.

>>
>>14693973

Those are some of the easiest fixes. I've heard the same thing although I've also heard others say it's very solid so I guess it's a case by case basis.

If yours is loose just dab some krazy glue on the balljoint while it's not actually connected to the model. Just a thin layer or two to thicken it by some nanometers and get a little more friction going.

I posted this last thread, this is the size comparison on an HG. They're not designed for either, really, but it depends on what you're looking for. The pile bunker attachment goes quite nicely on an MG.
>>
>>14693647
There's a bunch of great kits for testing your painting. RX-78-2 Revive (for angles), Zaku II (for smooth curves), things like the Hi-Mock are dirt cheap too and have big smooth surfaces for easy painting. Citadel paints are alright but you'll want to make sure you thin them quite a bit to avoid brush streaks (since I figure you'll be hand-painting) - the pigmentation suffers a bit but they work alright.

$50 and its a great starter kit. Sprays nicely, Comes with a decent compressor and its a double action gravity fed, which is by and large considered the best.

If down the road you want to upgrade to a better one, the compressor will still be there for use with the new brush.
>>
>>14694590
I started out with something like that. They're good for beginners since they're not at all complicated at the cost of versatility. Plus most, if not all, high quality air brushes are not only more expensive themselves but require a compressor, while those work fine with cheap air cans.

tldr: It'll work just fine

>>
>>14694723
It's a total stickerfest and even then some parts need to be painted for color accuracy.

But the engineering is pretty damn good from what I've heard.

So if you don't mind either being color inaccurate out of box or having to put in some extra effort painting a lot of details and transparent parts, it's fine.
>>
>>14694723
I've got unit 4 (I think it's 4, the blue one) and it's pretty neat. Just note: All the white lines are stickers, the pink effect parts are clear and have to be painted, the thin red lines are also stickers. Otherwise though, it's not bad.

>>
>>14694741
You need an airbrush
Paint the base coat of the model
Then use a darker mix of the basecoat and airbrush it in fine lines over panel lines
Then go back to a wider spray with the original base coat paint with a "mist" coat, which a very, very light coat, which will take down the contrast between the base coat and the darker panel line aiirbrushing

The amazon one is 50, and its free shipping. Yes, one is 14, but you got to look at the comparison

>50$ Airbrush
>Is an actual airbrush
>gravity fed
>dual action
>comes with a compressor and some basic tools
>compressor is a standard compressor and can be used with any airbrush down the line

>14$ 'airbrush'
>is a plastic stick external mix toy
>has a cheap rubber tube running to air from an aerosol can
>is made for children
>Nothing from the actual 'airbrush' can be salvaged when you go to a real airbrush as nothing is used by anyone else (because its a fucking toy)
>is a child's version of single action

You get what you pay for man.

I bought this airbrush to practice with too, and the mini compressor only activates when you start to spray, but either I screwed up hooking the thing up to my moisture trap, or it doesn't like to feed air through the regulator/trap anyway.

Either way from what I've heard it's a decent knockoff, but I'm hesitant to shoot Mr. Tool Cleaner through it since I don't know if it will melt anything.

Only G-Reco kit I bought was a G-Arcane and it was mediocre compared to others. Not awful by any means, but the joints were loose like it was a bootleg kit and the colour separation wasn't all that great. If you want something with a similar vibe to the Kabakali but better build quality, maybe look into Gundam The End.

I bought the Hi-Mock when HLJ had a 75% off sale on them, so they were like $2 each. I bought four, ended up giving two away when I emigrated. Best $8 I ever spent.

>>
>>14696024

What do you mean the color separation wasn't all that great? IIRC the G-Arcane has some of the better color separation for G-Reco, that's just how the suit looks.

G-Reco kits are basically OK but they feel older than they are. Part of that is because the design of the suits themselves limit the articulation, part of it is because of sheer laziness on Bandai's part where things that could VERY EASILY have been molded in separate colors/pieces are just not, and you have to rely on a sticker for color, or there's not even a sticker.
>>

>>14695861
Take it out, put super glue on the sides of the pegs, wait for it to fully dry then put it abck in. The super glue dries with a rough surface for more friction, and the extra tiny bit of width usually does the job.

This is some expensive Airsoft Gun target.

so do you guys prefer doing panel lining before or after building a kit?

My first kit just arrived, including rest of the basic stuff(nippers, cutting mat, .etc) except the markers

I want to build the kit now but my autism tells me I won't stand having the kit "incomplete" while waiting for the markers to arrive
>>
>>14696436

I panel line while building the kit, it's just easier to work with the pieces that way. Although you have to look at the manual first so you don't waste time panel lining something that'll be 100% covered up.
>>
>>14696436
I like to build first, then panel line. It lets me play with the kit and mess around with poses. I think most prefer to do it while building, but I don't wanna slow down the build process. I already take a while as it is.

is there any cheap and/or trusty way to bring gunpla to south america? brasil more specifically

I've been looking around sites, but the prices are always abusive

you're fucked

Hire a young and desperate American woman/man to swallow carefully wrapped pieces of gunpla runner and then fly into Brazil and poop them out.

>yfw the table cost less than a HG

It was pretty cheap, but it's been taken up by the spraybooth and paints so I still need another table.

Yeah, I do. Haven't unboxed the kit though.
The Freyja base kit is really good, it's better than I expected a lot.

Why not get the MG 2.0 or the PG?

Vote for whoever will lower import taxes now that Dildo Roussef is out of office.

It's the only way.

I'm unsure about the red booties. Otherwise, it's pretty top. Camera angle makes it look absurdly top-heavy though, which the Duel Assault Shroud doesn't usually suffer from.

Could be worse. If you're wondering what the first tool you want to buy is, I'd recommend a set of needle files. Testors do a decent one for not very much that you can find at hobby stores like Michael's and Hobby Lobby, they'll help you sort out your nubs with nearly zero effort, and will be much more important for you than any painting gear right now. Don't be fooled into thinking "Oh, the nubs won't matter when I can just paint over them" because they show up regardless.

A hobby knife works for nub removal as well. You just have to be careful not to shave to much off.
>>
>>14696851
Yeah, I use a hobby knife, but I don't recommend it for beginners. If you fuck up filing a nub you get a few scratches. If you fuck up shaving it with a knife, you gouge out some plastic and it's a bugger to fix.
>>
>>14696851
Well that's a lot nicer than my shit
>>
>>14696851
You also get to learn to be careful and not shave off parts of your fingers instead
>>
>>14696909
I remember the first time I gashed my finger with an xacto (it was pretty dull, so the bleeding came quickly) my first thought was "this shit better not stain the model"

Anyone here use any HIQ parts? Specifically the metal pieces/stickers? I wanna try putting some more metal details on my kits. I've used pinheads before, but I'm looking for something more detailed. What metal parts would you guys recommend? And where should I buy them? I noticed a lot of places (1999, HLJ) don't have a lot in stock.

Where the fuck an you even get affordable gunpla in New Zealand

Let alone south island. Everything is ungodly expensive to get online

>Well that's a lot nicer than my shit

Some panel lining and a light coat of matte spray can go a long way. Super easy
>>
I'm going to hobby lobby tomorrow, since I can't order online because my bank is doing stupid shit this month.

I want to build a tool set I only have an air compressor and sand paper, any recs of what to buy?

Also what paint brands should I look for?

Different anon here, I've forgone the use of sandpaper on popsicle sticks as I felt I got mediocre results from them and making a new stick was annoying each time.

Will needle files give me better results?
