***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

I dunno about the Rinascita Alba. The design's a bit blander than the Fenice since it lost the asymmetry that I liked about it.

Whoops, just noticed the knees should be gray, not orange..
>>

Of this we are in agreement. Alba is the Wing Gundam-coloured version of the Rinascita, by the way. It's a good MG though, aside from poor design choices.

Paint it pink like Love Live.

>>14679283
If that's the case, might as well get the regular Wing Gundam. I was thinking about following the other anon's advice and get the MG version of my first Gunpla (Aile Strike).

Really, I just want wings on my robot and the HG Barbatos is the only thing that's making me reconsider

i just finish the Edgy Boy. be patient i will post some pictures in the week of the kit in no paint. These two kit gonna be full paint to.

For the moment i can say that the kit inclued Water Decals and don't have so many pieces but have a great level of details ( Hasegawa Kit).

the kit have only 4 different colors but i thinks just panel lining and a finish coat will be suficient to have a great kit.

mine is going to be custom with add details and special paint in a lot of different shade of grey, sand and brown tones.

+ you have to cute, sand in a solid plate 39 litlle robot of 4mm by 2 by hand... it seems to be the more annoying parts of the things.

Hollowed out behind the visor parts on the big Master Cheif kit and experimented with adding an orange LED. Battery is definitely going in the torso but I'm not sure exactly where yet.

This is going to be for a small local show in two months so the battery only has to last a few hours. I picked up some grip plate patterned styrene to detail up the base with too.

Not sure what the texture here is about, or if it's even a problem at all
Also, never painting on the runners again because that was a terrible idea
>>
>>14680158
It is a problem, that's orange peel texture, which means you layered it on too thick
>>
>>14680155
>>14680157
>>14680158

Your paint is pooling, so you've laid it on too thick, which is also what causes the orange peel. Do thinner coats, wait for it to try, then do more coats. Don't rush, or you'll ruin it. If you've primed (or sanded if you're not priming) properly you won't have any problems with paint adhesion on thin coats.

== ACE PILOT GROUP BUILD ==

Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

Prizes include:
>1st Place: Any HG kit under $25 + an Action Base 2
>2nd Place: Any HG kit under $15
>3rd Place: An Action Base 2
(Note: Shipping is to USA and maybe Canada only)

Group build ends on October 31st, get building!

Decided to do Ground Type and Space Type equipment, but fuck me the Transient feet are awful. Fun Fact, the 'Ground Type' has to be holding its gun out or the whole thing falls over backwards. The absolute worst part is that the ball joint is on the foot rather than the ankle, which is the opposite of virtually every other kit ever made so... either I deal with it or make a new ankle joint.

You mix and match, detail like scribing, or scratchbuild parts. Some stuff fits together easily, some require modification to fit, some are just straight up glued on.

A custom can even be as simple as it holding a different gun and having a different colorscheme.
>>
>>14680486
Huh, it seemed to work out for me.
I had a friend who's really autistic about not using it because he's kind stupid and sprays on thick and on the kit all at once.
>>
>>14680483
Kits have varying levels of compatibility because, for instance, Bandai could never make up their mind whether they wanted the shoulder joint to have a peg or a ball, and whether they wanted the socket in the torso or the shoulder.

Be prepared to modify pieces to fit different sizes and shapes of connector. Backpacks are a big one there, although they're also one of the easiest to modify. Always save your spare polycaps and remember sprues make good scratchbuilt pegs.

What works best for me is taking a base kit and work from there. Once you have a "canvas" you can go and find something that works for you from any spare parts you have lying around, or a second kit that you don't mind sacrificing to Plamor. Most modern HGs from 00/AGE onward use pretty much the same construction method (Ball-jointed hips/elbows, female arm peg to male shoulder peg, etc) so it's mainly just swapping limbs, but you can experiment with what you have and see what works. Pick up one of the Build Fighters kits based off of an older kit like the GM Cardigan, EZSR, or Mega Shiki that come with a bunch of extra parts and just fiddle around with those and find a combination of what you like.

I want to do something like this with what will be my first painted kit (also an MG Double X) but only one of my paints are actual model brand. (Tamiya)
The others are krylon band that I had lying around. These will work well too right?
I should top coat before painting right. what about panel lining?

>>14679573
Anybody know what's special about the other P-bandai imports? They all look normal.
>>
>>14680897
I don't think you're supposed to top coat before painting.
>>
>>14680902
oh shit that's right I had it backwards!!
I just went on a tangent about that stuff anyway. All I really want to know about is the paint.
>>
>>14680897

Topcoat literally goes on top. You don't topcoat before painting. You sand a little which helps with parts fit and also helps primer adhere to the surface of the plastic. Then you prime. Then you paint. Then you apply glosscoat. Then you panel line/wash. Then you apply the final finishing topcoat.

Also DO NOT use Krylon, it goes on thick as shit and the pigments are giant, so you are guaranteed a painful orange peel texture.

So I have a can of testors that says clear coat and spray lacquer on the can but it says glosscote on the sell label.
I was under the impression that it would be my top coat. Is there another brand I should look at? I think I do want a gloss finish at the end of the day.
>>
>>14680944

There are different types of topcoat. You can use that as your topcoat if you want a gloss finish.

Be forewarned though that Testors

1) Is really fucking strong
2) Will make your panel lines run if you spray it on too heavy

The generally accepted solution is to do a light coating of Testors, wait a day, then spray a second layer to finish.

By what standard? They're subpar now but decent to good for their time, and definately a step up over most destiny kits. Especially when it came to seam hiding, shoulder range, and part separation. The initial kits just got caught in that awkward stage between engineering jumps where they are better than most seed/destiny, but lack the better improvements of the later 00 kits.

I'm just retarded, I inserted a piece the wrong way into the holster and got it jammed. I thought it was just stubborn and tried forcing it, breaking off one piece, then I tried using the beam saber handle to force it and the bit that handle goes into snapped off into it and I couldn't get it out (I chopped a bit of one of the beam saber's insertion nub so it'd go into the handle still at least).

As for the chest, I simply pulled too hard and overestimated how solid that particular piece is.
The rest of the kit came out relatively well so far, especially the head.
I wouldn't be afraid, just don't be an idiot like I was
>>
>>14681510
That's the thing, the manual's diagrams for the holsters didn't really show HOW it fit, just that H2 slid into B50. I'm not any less of a fucking moron for not realizing I slid it in at the wrong point though. I'm just glad I figured it out while the other holster was still ok

Decal eyes (including eyebrrows and other features) are almost always better than molded eyes. If they had gone with water decals or even just only stickers with multiple faceplates they would've been fine, but instead it has some weird ass partial molding going on that looks like shit on an anime face.
>>
>>14681722

Has Bandai ever put water decals in an HG? I don't think so. And even dry transfers are rare. I think they wanted to go stickers only. But then they also wanted you to be able to paint the eyes in. And then the eyes are separate from the rest of the face. All of that adds up to disaster.

That said even if you were to address the problem of the eyes, the face itself still looks shit.

They also made it BIG AS FUCK to cheap out on making an entirely new weapon pack mold so the thing looks hilarious next to other kits.

I figured I'd start figuring out my group build tonight, and ended up with this thing. Partially inspired by the Heavy Armed type Geara Doga, it's just the HGUC with those missile things from the 1/100 Chaos Gundam and one of the Buster's rifles. I'm gonna go in and make the rifle a bit more Zeeklike, and maybe whip up a halberd like weapon from one of the Sinanju's beam axes and a Kotobukiya polearm.

Need to find what I did with the command type helmet, otherwise I'll make up a new horn.

when I was building my VF-31J, I applied stickered everytime I finished a major section (ex. Stickering up the cockpit when I finished it's assembly and so on). However, this was largley a huge mistake for the main body of the plane, since I ended up messing up the placement a bit on some stickers due to not knowing how it would look completed.

In general, I'd recommend applying stickers to the legs after completing their assembly and before attaching them to main body. For everything else just wait until you're done building the whole thing. Don't be me.

Kind of bad because the Graze Ritter requires you to paint the sword and the HG Grimgerde doesn't come with a visor for the face so you would have to scratchbuild that.

You know how the Grimgerde has a blue light shining out of its "mouth" and its eye visor because that's where the cameras are? Revive.
And reflective gold plating always looks like shit
>>
Do I still bother with stickers if I plan to paint, or will I have to put them on anyways afterwards?

Before or after topcoat?
>>
>>14683843
Before, so you can seal 'em in with the paint.
>>
>>14683829
Depending on kit complexity and how neurotic I can get with nubs and decals, it can take me up to two or three weeks to finish up a MG

The revive hyaku shiki's engineering is a fucking marvel.
Shit's basically an RG without the prebuilt inner frame and explosive tendencies, on par with some of the origin kits.
The revives just keep getting better and better.
A bit dissapointed that Bandai cheaped out on open hand poses option, similar to the HG IBO line.
Even SDs got those hand options ffs Bandai.
Can't wait to get mine and paint it muted gold like the MG 2.0.

Naoki wrecked the feet with those ugly high heel things he keeps putting on all his designs.
>>
Is it just me, or do the astrea kits come with parts to turn them into exia?
>>
>>14684488
Astraea is based off a magazine only conversion kit for the exia, so the actual kits they started producing are the exact same thing, but with more details.
>>
>>14684495
I was wondering with all the extra exia looking parts, but no instructions
>>
>>14684508
It's a pretty common thing with Bandai with kits based off of one another. That's why the MegaShiki has part of the Delta shield, the Try and Kamiki burning have parts for the stock BB gundam, and so on.
It raises the price a little bit because of the extra plastic, but it works the opposite way too because they don't have to devise a new runner.
>>
>>14683681
Not him, but since I don't paint (as I don't have the equipment or space to do so), I take my sweet-ass time when sanding.
>>
So any opinions about the 1/100 gale strike kit?
>>
>>14684600

If you mean the no-grade 1/100 Aile Strike, it's dogshit.

Just get the MG ver. RM.

I have that exact same monitor.

That head reminds me alot of Optimus Prime's head.

This took me 80-something minutes, including panel lining and varnishing. There's a few bad nubs I didn't pick up on before taking the photo, granted. That being said, I fully advocate taking as much time as you need, or you end up with Snapshit levels of cancer.
>>
>>14684229
Same manufacturer, probably. I don't think there's many names in the Giant Robot Machine Gun business at that time.
>>
>>14684488

You get parts for the full Exia head minus the clear parts, the full GN Sword minus the white inner shield panel and the shoulders. What you don't get are the GN flexi pipe things or the front skirts, IIRC.
>>
>>14684612
Oddly enough he means the Gale Strike.

Your points all stand though, it's pretty trash. You could probably do a half decent conversion using the 1/100 parts and an MG Aile Strike.
>>

not gonna lie I know a girl I hate building gunpla with her she she kicks me in the nuts every time. I spend so long trying to make it look pretty She basicly snap fits the fucking thing together in an hour 2 tops and they always look better then mine... I spend upwards of 2-10 hours the 2 hours were when I built my remaining Black tri star Zaku 1 after having binged for 3 nights building 6 others before. So I had become quite fast at assembly.
>>
>>14685100
What's the deal here? Just a natural good cut on nubs or something?

Been in a gunpla slump for a while but I finally managed to snap this together. Gonna look great with some painting. Might use the decal markings too

She has amazying hand dexterity from what I can tell... I don't know how she does it but she uses a bloody knife no nippers no tools just a fucking overly ornate dragon themed Knife...

The Knife is almost as big as the gunpla them selves. I asked her why she isn't really interested in painting them and she says that its due to the fact that she simply enjoys the accomplishment of completing it. I started building a Gundam MKII next to her and just... I got so demoralized I starting dicking around on my xbox because I just couldn't get over how she puts next to no effort in yet completely blows me out of the water.

>>
>>14685265
Where did you meet a gunpla girl please I'm so lonely
>>
>>14685265

Yeah all those kits are pretty good except that the Thunderbolt HGs obviously have a lot of stickers and would look better if you painted them. Even a tiny paintjob like spraying the little Psycho Zaku verniers a proper gold.

>>14685278
I would but Her Gunpla are at her house and I have no way to get pictures she likes zoids more then Gunpla so when and if I get pictures would that be ok? Like I said I don't mind you not believing me, its kinda insane I mean its not like they are beautifully painted but for just trimming and snapfiting its insane...

>>14685285
I plan to buy 3 Zaku 1's so I have a squad as well as 3 of the new Zaku 2 thunderbolts but no cash right now that order is 160 and I have to wait for payday. cause its also rent week... As it stands I might be removing the ground pounder because its so much more expensive.

>>14685322
So basicly that is a result of me triple searching my man I add shit to my cart then hunt for cheaper ones the reason the cart is built the way it is because of them mostly being prime I think it gave me a discount. After I replaced some of the kits with other sellers I just about 60 dollars off by switching around my sellers also I just found this site if it helped me find the cheap prices for psycho and full armor cheap-r dot com
