Ryusei has a pretty great character arc though, but by the time he comes clean to the rest of the KRC the show starts kicking them by the wayside anyways.

I love Fourze's characters, but the actual plot and writing is really weak in the second half of the show.

I actually didn't notice the lack of quality in the first dozen episodes until I rewatched it later on. Part of that was because I assumed bad translation jobs (I was watching TV-N so I was probably correct even though I didn't know their reputation at the time), but Blade was also one of the first Rider series I watched and I still didn't really know what to expect from the shows at that point.

That being said, I do remember a huge uptick in interest in the show after Tachibana kicks the shit out of Isaka, which is the point where most people put for the show turning around from "hilariously awkward" to "actually good".

I disagree. When I started Blade I thought it was dog rough, but "genuinely garbage" is going too far. I think the general opinion on the start has kinda been tainted by all the memes surrounding it a bit.

I won't say it was a good start by any measure though. For me the show didn't really pick up until around 15 or so, but once that happened it pretty much instantly went from "eh I've seen worse" to a top fiver.

Past Tachibana's weirdness, the only thing that's a drag on the rest of the series is Mutsuki, and even then it's more of a case of the writers not knowing what the fuck to do with him after he goes full-on edgelord, then putting off the resolution to his character arc right to the end where it's too late for it to have much of an impact on the rest of the story.
