Sekai is one dense motherfucker.

I can't understand if it is just me or if Shia changes personality every time she appears on screen.
It must be the most incoherent character of the Gundam-verse. Like I'm expecting her to turn into a man next time she has any screentime.

Just finished watching it and it's 20 minutes of shitty harem anime (although I appreciate the constant Gyanko upskirts). Then 10 minutes of mecha wrecking shit with uber weapons as colony lasers and colony drops happen. It's not bad, but it's the same bullshit as Try was all series. There is a lame cameo at the end and that's about it.

My biggest issue with it is the utter misery it leaves once it's finished. It's there and it's got elements of build fighters we love (random cameos), it's got some good Gyanko and Minato and then it's just done. And it's back to reality where our Gunpla can't move and lifes shit again.

Watch it if you want more Try or want more Gyanko's ass in a bikini.

What DVD? It's own? Then it's not an extra. Toy's home media release finished ages ago, so it can't be that. If it's a DVD extra it's going on an otherwise unrelated shows release. And while it might be an extra it still took over a year to produce from the announcement, so it would be expected to have good art and animation just because of how long it took to make relative to its run time. A cheapo 30 minute OVA to throw on a DVD or BR should be something you can knock out in a few months at worst, not over a year.

He helped make the Build Burning Try and is suggested to be the main builder on the Kamiki Build Burning or whatever that ugly lump is called along with wanting to repair the Build Burning as soon as he woke when Wilfred knocked him out so I guess he's technically different. He did use the Build Burning for a dozen or so episodes without doing anything to it though, even if he did make an SD in something like the 4th episode that he didn't use again so it's a valid point regardless. Using someone elses gunpla to get started is fine. Saying otherwise is kind of shitting on Reiji and all the other team players who fought instead of building in season one. I'd say the most egregious thig is that the kamiki burning startedd developing more gimmicks like it's effecct parts turning into bits as well. The only 'new' design from the whole thing that got a good showing was the Lightning Gundam Strider, showing off the new rifle mode and the wings unfolded in shooting mode. My only issue with it's design is that the red backpack looks really out of place.

The choreography with this OVA was all over the place though. What better way to show off a brand new big bad Gundam than showing it running away from the protagonists attack rather than trying to fight it head on. I guess that's why they called it 'Scramble' Gundam.

I thought the OVA started off well, and then Sekai showed up and it went to shit.

Like I'm not even joking, his exact appearance marked a drastic downturn in quality.

Anyways it was nice how Yuuma and Shia had actual personalities in this OVA, but man Island Wars just stunk of "hey you guys liked episode 25 of BF, right?! Well we didn't manage to put it in Try, but we fit it into this OVA!!!!!"

And just like literally every time Try tried to copy something from S1, they fucked it up because this time the big battle scene was a mess of useless enemies and the combination attack finale ditched the actual combination part to just wank Sekai even harder.

They even threw in "Character Disappears Back To Arian" at the end because it wasn't a blatant enough of a ripoff.

Oh my god. Oh. My. God. I did not think that there was a low that was lower than Try originally was. They attempted to relive the amazing last scene from the first season without the build up, great characters, and interesting fight mechanics of it. Half of the OVA was harem antics again. Speaking of the term OVA, the animation was awful compared to the preceding seasons. No one fought in an interesting way. They just spammed Plavsky hacks and giant beams. What the hell was that last fight. I feel like they just broke the rules and boundaries set by the first season. That wasn't gunpla battle, that was magic. Literally elemental magic. That was so over the top and out of universe I couldn't even appreciate it for how cool it would have been in another show. If the people in the first season were so amazing that Sei built a shield that absorbed beams, why aren't these kids considered gods? That was actually worse than Try, and I didn't think that was possible. That was actually complete and utter dogshit, and I had rock bottom expectations to begin with.

I'm honestly curious here if anyone liked this OVA.

I like the idea of a martial arts person transitioning to gunpla battle and I think Sekai is decent for the first few episodes of the show where he builds an SD model and practises moving within the limits of a gunpla, but the execution of him for the rest of the show is boring at best.

I really wish he'd just been a regular martial arts user doing karate or whatever and applying those lessons to gunpla, targeting weak points in joints and using plavsky particles to make over the top stuff like in movies because he can and it's fun instead of assimilation and Jigen Haoh Ryu. Basically have him invent gunpla-fu as a way to fight in gunpla and make it even more fun for himself along the same lines as Folka's Machine God Fist in Super Robot Wars or something.
