It's an interesting concept, as you have to start from level 1 all over again but acquire different armor and buffs as you progress.
A lot of it depends on team competence and yes the floors do change each run.
In short, it could be worse.
It's an interesting bridge for new players for EXP and endgame players for gear.

I just did a run.

You're dropped to level 1 and given "aura" weapon and armor.

As you progress, you level up. You level up really quickly, and as you open chests your weapon and armor get buffed.

It's pretty simple and straightforward.

I just cleared the first 10 floors, but apparently the rest is exactly the same just with tougher enemies.

Cold Steel: An RPG series by a company who really wanted to make Giant Robo, but with more ANIME like falling on the Tsundere's boobs.

Live a Live: SNES RPG with a unique concept - it's made up of 7 different stories with different genres such as Sci-Fi, Western and Ninja with additional chapters once they're all finished. There's a Mecha chapter which is basically kind of a Raideen/Mazinger Z/Giant Robo pastiche.

Baldr Sky: Super Renowned Pr0n Mecha Game that no one actually seems to know what it is about.

I don't think they'll do it but I kinda want a revamp of the Skill System because it's just gotten quite formulaic.

IMO, the buyable skills are those that make you better at very specific aspects or encourage you to use the unit in different ways.

As examples of what kind of skills I would pick to populate a new list from already existing skills, Z3-2 actually introduced a lot of good ones:

Positioning - Increases positioning (a.k.a surround) bonuses by 5%
Single Attack - ALL attacks on a single unit deal 1.1x damage
Terrain Use - Defensive bonuses from terrain effects are doubled.
Tactical Standby - If you end turn without the user moving or attacking (take no action at all), the 'Awaken' and 'Accelerate' spirits will be cast on the user's team on the next Player Phase and the user will gain 5 SP.

And stealing from FMW:
Shotgunning (but without the "only attacks that run off Ranged stat" requirement)
Extend

I like these better than "you get more damage from achieving something that you would normally achieve during the normal course of a stage anyway" skills like Attacker.

What was supposed to happen is that you would lose damage depending on how far you were from the enemy compared to your weapon range - so if your weapon's max range was 7, you would deal a lot less damage at 7 than you would at range 1.

What ACTUALLY ended up happening because incompetence is that you gained bonus damage instead for every unused square of range on the attack, so point blank that ICBM toss!

I guess the end result on player behaviour is the same if you think about it (attack from a closer distance rather than further) but it kind of buffs attacks with higher range when that's already an advantage in itself.

Falcom stopped making decent games after 1998, and even then they were mostly cookie cutter RPGs besides Brandish and Vantage Master.
the LoH series is basically the FE of JRPGs, overhyped mediocre games with a very vocal but small fanbase and Ys is the Sanic of A-RPGs, sometimes they are probably possessed by some merciful deity and make a good game but most of the times they're as average as you can get.

If they got smart and turned franchises like Vantage Master into something bigger they would have made shitloads of money, but nope, better shit the umpteenth LoH game and the occasional port or remake of old Ys games, hell, even Culdcept made it to this day, if Omiyasoft did it Falcom could have made some real dosh, imagine a Vantage Master game for arcades or with dedicated servers on PC, shit would be awesome.

Nah, what made Vantage Master good was the PVP, it was a pretty fun game design wise and if they did polish a bit and expanded the system it could have been a hit, that's what they did with Culdcept in Japan, online PVP and even huge live tourneys back in the dreamcast days made it possible for the franchise to create a strong, dedicated following so that they still make games to this day.

In SRW 2 and 3, enemy reinforcements were only triggered by turn number, not by killing everything. So if Char and Lalah appeared in turn 3, but you finished the stage in turn 2, they would never appear at all. Most SRWs from 4 onwards give you a "if turn 3 OR every enemy destroyed".

In SRW2 it was kinda hilarious because you could lose F91 and Cybuster if you finished their debut stages before they appeared. It wouldn't bite you in the ass until much later in the game, because you needed Cybuster, or the game would be unwinnable.
