The original is an humanoid alien boy, son of an alien man and a Earthling woman. He never set foot on Earth, but he always heard the stories his mother told him, so his dream is to reach Earth and see his mother's homeland with his own eyes. He joins the other aliens/spacefarers that are also either at odds with Earth or trying to reach it for some kind of mysterious mission.

The MC is critically injured right when the cast finally reaches Earth's atmosphere, mid-game. There's a last tearful battle in atmospheric reentry, and the MC dies right as he touches down on Earth. The last thing he sees is Earth's oceans. You play the rest of the game as his childhood friend, who was never that interested in that stuff, but accompanied him because thought it would be fun. He now finds himself with a new purpose on life: avenge his friend and rid Earth of those who would abuse power (hence Dragonar).

The issue I have is less with the actual overspriting, since I've got a bunch of practice with that. It's how about 90% of SRWE sprites are made, both the map heads and full battle sprites. The issue I do have is that getting stuff to oversprite over, like sketches, is difficult.

What I'd like to do is take something like this here image of the Gekishin, which is already in a nice and SRW-friendly pose, and edit it into SRW proportions, like you did for the Jehuty sprite. Any tips for doing something like that, beyond "git gud?"

Just use the polygon select tool in Photoshop or whatever, get all the limbs and such on separate layers, and mess around with them with the scale and skew tools. Remember that you might need to adjust the length of the upper parts of limbs separately from the lower parts, the torso needs to be vertically squished a bit, the waist should be shorted a bit more than the upper torso, shoulder armor should be kept in proportion with the upper torso, and git gud.

I actually always end up tweeking the proportions in the final sprite a bit, too.

The idea is a low-power level mostly earth-based SRW with mainly a SS-class focus (with hints of Music as freedom and Law as control). Throw in some stuff about how the Gundam Fight and Hero TV are competing for ratings and you got something good going.

The Original is a test pilot for the police division's prototype Patrol Armor which can get upgraded to either a better power armor or a real robot.

For years, the special weapon 'Gundam' of the Shuffle Alliance kept peace on Earth, but they were betrayed and killed, and the plans for Gundam leaked to the radicals of the Colonies. The Federation scrambles to develop their own Gundam, as the Super Robots assemble against the forces coming from space, the Decepticons, Zonder, and Rita Repulsa, who has revived the Dinosaur Empire who she conquered in the past.
The Original is a mysterious Nanoha-style Magical Girl, who shows up to help the Power Rangers, and can summon Dendrobium-style addons to fight on a mecha scale. She continually recieves addons from an anonymous source throughout the game. She's the showpiece for a mix-and-match frame system, which is similarly used by the rest of the cast (this is a game heavy on Full Armor addons and other equippable modules). At the end, it turns out that the girl is an gynoid created by the original villain, who was the one who attracted all the aliens and caused the Gundam to be released, because they wanted to experiment with all the new technology and find the secret to immortality.

As for the English subtitles, considering how a lot of people were expecting full on Singlish, it does a pretty good job, but vocab and grammar issues are fairly common, but you can still follow the plot at least.

The English used is perfectly understandable to native English speakers; since growing up you have grown accustomed to all the way the language could be butchered that you intrinsically understand it even when it's wrong. The people who have problems with the wordings are generally people who learned English as a second language so when it is written improperly they lose the ability to parse what is being written.

Otherwise there are some slight "mistranslations" that only matter if you're used to the way certain terms have been fan-translated over the years.

You can make something out of them most of the time, it still somehow at least reaches machine translation level.

But I'll be clear that is not a pass at all.

Make no mistake the subs are pretty terrible, you'll find repeated sentences, mispelling and inconsistency everywhere, some completely non-sensical transliteration and there will be lots of instances where what is written simply doesn't make sense regardless of what language you speak and you can only guess. There are points the translation is clearly straight up made up as well.

With that said it's all you get if you can't read Japanese, so I doubt knowing that changes anything at all. Chances are if you were willing to throw down the $90 for it your mind was already set.

I've been playing these games in Japanese for almost 10 years so the quality of the translation is the only reason I wouldn't just get the Japanese version.
