They started using visors with Denziman. I don't think Kamen Rider has ever stopped using holes in the helmet in order for the actors to see, they just far less conspicuous now.

I'm not sure if the instance I posted was entirely unintentional, since up until now I haven't really been able to see their eyes in closeups. Or maybe it was and they just didn't care since it was Junichi Haruta wearing the suit anyway, I don't really know.

If you're talking about the "teardrop" holes right underneath where the eyes are underneath the helmet, yeah, it takes them a long while to stop using them. Even then, they're not completely out of use.

I think the only Showa era Rider that doesn't have them is Stronger, and that's only because they appear to have opted to put holes in the eyes themselves similar to how it was done for Goranger, JAKQ, and Battle Fever J.

So far (just finished ep. 24), probably Barban. The dynamic between the generals is really cool and keeps me intrigued every episode. They take the best aspects of the Vyram, Org, and Jakanja and put a pirate theme on it.

Ryouma is also a decently good red. He's not god tier like Matoi or Alata, but he's pretty relatible. I'm a sucker for younger brother characters.

Bull Black also is a great anti-hero. He's clearly going to die, and I know Hyuuga eventually comes back and replaces him (next episode?), but it's been a fun ride. I'd love a character like him in a more modern show.

I know they used spare Ace Blades in Go-busters a few times, but outside of that, I can't think of much. (I'll admit I don't watch every episode of every series, so I might have missed stuff).

I wonder if the toy people are pushing for the toys in-show to never be shown in a bad light. We also get so much gear, in particular a lot of "option mecha", that I wonder if destroying a mecha would even have the same impact as before. When you only had 1-2 "megazords" a season, seeing one destroyed was a pretty big deal.

I would love it if they made it a plot point that the gear was replaceable and easy to summon Emiya-style and they take advantage of it to outmaneuver opponents. That's true. Although I don't always count things lost/destroyed in finales on the same level as things happening mid-season. Burai dying in Zyuranger was a pretty big deal because we got to see the effects of it for many episodes after. Jin dying in Go-busters was impactful, but we never had to see the Busters fight without him.

They already repeated the early 2000s in the last few years. Animals (Gaoranger) with Zyuohger, Ninjas (Hurricanger) with Ninninger and Dinosaurs (Abaranger) with Kyoryuger.

I can totally see the next one being a police Sentai again, but I fear it's going to be cars. Unless they do both, which could be possible. It's hard to see police mechs as other than cars, after all.

There have been cases that have been shorter (Carranger was 6 years after Turboranger, Hurricanger was 7 years after Kakuranger) but those can probably be chocked up as anomalies.

To be honest, unless they have a new angle to tackle some of the old themes and motifs with or they want to combine them in an interesting way, I'd rather Toei and Bandai try new things. Despite what some people say, almost every season has managed to differentiate itself aesthetically, at least in my eyes.

Sentai is formulaic, but the last thing I want is for it to feel samey.

Akibarangers don't work at all since the key bit is thicker. Go-Busters used on the original produces a "Special Ranger Key, yeah oh!" sound when you turn them and pressing the button gives you something about everyone joining together(?). Everything after the Go-Busters reads the same way I believe, but the Go-Busters got the special Mobirates release with the DX AkaRed so they get read in that one and do a callout. Kyoryugers specifically came with sound capsules that you could slot into to make sound.

What? No there wasn't. The Captain Force Mobirate is the latest one to come out unless you want to count the Power Rangers Super Megaforce one(and that doesn't read Japanese keys), and Captain Force is just the Korean localization of Gokaiger.

I'd be up for another ancient civilization sentai. Ohranger had that as it's motif, but honestly, the show played out a lot more like a military sentai. It just so happened that the energy came from old civs. Much like how Jetman wasn't really an "animal" sentai in a sense.

I'd also be up for an ancient powers, auras and chakras type of show. It felt like this got used a lot in the 80s and I think a comeback would be cool.
