You know what I think is missing from modern Sentai?

People on the streets, characters intereacting with people.

Does anyone have this feeling as well or I'm just crazy? In previous series you feel the world is actually populated and the team interacted with people a lot more, helping them with their problems, etc. This is something I felt was lacking in Go-Busters. Zyuohger had a bit of human interaction, but still seems like everyone they go out to the streets, they're empty.

Gokaiger at least had the fanservice factor going for it. The homages and guest appearances made every episode felt like an event. It was fun watching it week by week.

Go-Busters started pheomenally but then dragged out like hell, nothing interesting was happenning. But when it got good, it good REALLY good, I'll give it that.

Kyoryuger onwards was pretty bland compared to 90s/early 2000s Sentai. And even with Go-Busters. Not a single interesting story arc to follow and the individual episodes were pretty mediocre as well. The mecha designs and fights have been shit since then with ToQger being the worst offender.

I think Go-Busters is the Kobayashi sentai that dragged the least. Something was always happening in there.

We got the handful introductory episodes, then Enter started building his megazord as Beet and J appeared, then they decided to enter the subdimension, then they kill Messiah, then the Messiah cards begin, then Messiah returns, then they kill Messiah again.

Compare with say, ToQger, where the only real relevant things are Akira's introduction, Zed's introduction, the twist of them being kids all along, Schwarz and Noir dying without having been relevant at all and the ending.

ToQger would have been really great if it had only like 15 episodes or so.

I don't know, man. I marathoned Shinkenger and had fun with it, at no point it seemed like it was boring or dragged out. Could be my impression for marathoning it, though.

Go-Busters I feel could have been better with just little adjustments, I even dare to say one of the best Sentai series ever. I loved the pseudo-realism (for Sentai levels) and the "real robot" feel they were going for. The sets and the way the mecha fights were filmed were more like something you would see in Ultraman. Mecha fights were never that compelling in a long time. It was a shame it failed hard and we now are stuck with shitty mecha designs and boring fights, which are by far the worst part of the few last Sentai.

I really love the Shinkenger rollcall and how all the stagehands set up the scene beforehand, it's very theatrical in a way that makes sense for the series. Not all sentai need an overly elaborate rollcall sequence, but Shinkenger nails it perfectly
