There's a lot less of it in this trailer just ny cutting out Mon Mothma recounting her rap sheet and having having Jan say that idiotic "This is a rebellion, I rebel" line. The stuff at the start with them asking if she needs the cuffs still has that air about it, but as a felon it's probably warranted in universe and the trailer as a whole is better. I think the first one flows better outside that though, and is more exciting in general. Scenes like the white Imperial overlord walking on the water and the music are just better picked.

Book 7 was about my maine character going into this world and fighting a race of elves and dwarves who have magic bows, (alterbate realities RULE man!)

I'm not asking them to keep the entire EU, just take from the good parts and discard the rest. Katarn's whole draw was that he was such a refreshing break from the norm as far as Jedi go. He wasn't considered one of the best because he was ultra powerful in the ways of the force; he was just a really well trained soldier before he even touched a lightsaber and he knew how to handle himself in pressure situations on pure instinct. He didn't eschew blasters or projectile weapons because he knew they were useful tools in a fight, and used them as often as possible whenever the opportunity arose. He was never an amazing Jedi; he just happened to be a really good fighter with a lot of luck and small touch of innate talent with the force. He was never really in touch with the force on an intimate level, he just knew it's practical applications and how to use it to get out of a bind.

It was just kind of nice to get a Jedi Master that wasn't all robes, proverbs, and feeling disturbances in the force for once, and I get the feeling that the new canon is going to fill that void with anything interesting or worthwhile.

Not him but they've kind of been doing exactly that for the comics and animated works, and using those things in a way that requires no prior knowledge of those elements. No reason they can't do the same with Katarn.

Though I'd honestly prefer they simply reboot the Jedi Knight saga. Fuck putting Katarn in a moderately decent movie; let him bring back the sub-franchise where he was at his best instead of turning him into a side character in Rebels or whatever, and it might be a good way to showcase the events in-between RotJ and TFA without having to bog a movie down with flashbacks.

From what I remember as robots get older and experience more things their programming accumulates errors and add quirks to their original personalities that can be detrimental to their role. So they wipe them every once in a while to sort of reset them back to their base personality. R2 just hasn't been wiped in a long time which is why he acts slightly odder than other droids.

Nah. Goldie kept getting occasional memory wipes because he's clumsy and blurts important shit by mistake consistently. The in-universe reason in general for memory wiping droids, particularly astromechs and more intelligent ones with more advanced AIs is because they develop personality quirks and become harder to restrain as well as generally more "sentient". Also a random Alliance technician or ground crew member tried to get Luke to switch to a newer astromech model from Artoo at the Battle of Yavin but Luke refused him.
