I haven't been getting much use out of them on my run, to be honest. ART-1 got nerfed pretty hard after OGG, R-3 is weak, and R-1's not great on its own. I like pairing R-2 with Radha's Gespenst, though. The Armor Down effect on SRX's finisher (and HTB Cannon's raw power) can be helpful for taking down retreating bosses, but I don't usually need the whole team.

The point of the scene is that they all look practically the same except for tiny differences that nobody outside of their tiny social circle would care about, but to Patrick make a profound difference. One of the themes in the movie is the interchangeability of all the VPs. How they're hardly even individuals. it's why Patrick keeps getting mistaken for that other guy.

It's fucking great in GC. It has the issue of Attack ranges (TOO MUCH HIGH POWER MAN is 5-9 or something, 5-10 with Range Ace) but it gets great P range, hits extraordinarily goddamn hard - his finisher outdoes EVERY NON COMBOATTACK IN THE GAME outside of Borot's finisher, which it ties - it has S Earth and Sky, good movement range, and two pilots.

Plus, you know, really good sniperbot in a game with a lot of turtling.

See, once you destroy the Dreadnought airship and rescue the Princess from the Arena, the Emperor decides to take matters into his own hands and summons a Cyclone that devastates a fuck ton of towns in the map, and whereas the Dreadnought only severely damaged them, the Cyclone rendered them uninhabitable

And it doesn't even end there - once you ride one of the last living Wyverns (also because of him) into the Cyclone and kill him, his spirit is so determined it tears into two (which are technically supposed to be dark and light). The dark half literally overthrows the devil and becomes the Emperor of hell, and the light half does the equivalent to purgatory/heaven. The dark half resurfaces and kills one of your best shots at winning. Eventually your heroes take care of the dark half, but the various player characters who die over the course of the story have to go through purgatory/heaven and kill the light half as well. The fucker takes a lot to die.

The J rendition is thoroughly lackluster. One of the more boring final boss themes in SRW, really. J has little in the way of great music, though most of its licensed songs are at least decent. The W final boss will be fought around the same time as Dark Brain's revival, but just before you can fight him, the villain of SC2 pushes the big button. Your squad, what's left of the Database, and he and his generals are all that are left due to some manner of shielding in the Database lair, so you have to band together with him to fight the guy.

Then you fight a powered up Kaiser, who just got the souls of an entire destroyed universe, and then whoever they make the final boss. Your squad restores everything - which he helps with, because he can't get power from the dead (it-it's not like I LIKE you, Roar! Baka!) and then when everything's restored he's mysteriously vanished, to show up in the next game.

Fantasy series are always kind of an issue to put in SRW without using SRW's favourite trick of "UH BYSTON WELL OR A BYSTON WELL EQUIVALENT"

The other way of "fitting" would be through thematics - sort of what UX does even though its cast list is something you wouldn't think would ever go together.

Though really, the factor that's keeping those particular two from being together is probably licensing (for the former anyway) and not writing - in some Shadow Mirror universe, I could see just throwing Escaflowne in the Alpha 1 parts with BYSTON WELL.

See, Anno thought he was clever. He showed a teaser that turned out to be a fake out at the end of 2.0, and he managed to keep the timeskip part of 3.0 hidden until the release date. The problem was that he didn't accurately pace 3.0 for not only having to have a timeskip but for all dealing with the Kaworu and Shinji storyline.

The previous rebuilds also did character development worse than the original series because of time constraints, BUT it had the framework of the original series to follow and thus people had an easier time filling in the gaps and making allowances.

Anno tried to introduce you to an entirely new setting in one film as an "epic" subversion of expectations, and spends half the fucking movie in an environment where nothing will be explained and instead the focus will be on Shinji and Kaworu.

That's the issue though. Anno wasn't able to balance his ideas. He couldn't balance his time frame, his characters, his storyline and his world building.

At the start of the movie too much time is spent on world building and not enough time on character interaction

In the middle of the film, everything is focused laser focused on Shinji's character interaction with Kaworu and Rei, and nothing else is given the focus it deserves.

And as you'll discover at the end of the film, everything is fucking rushed just for the sake of having a big flashy ending at the cost of everything.

This was a film that needed a minimum 30 more minutes of run time to be passable and I'd say an hour to be good.

As it stands it's film that's too thin and too fat at the same time.
