Not just UX, L also had industry professional writers on that game. Kishimoto who you know as the head writer of UX was a supporting writer and works in the anime industry too, Nakagawa who was head writer for BX and also worked on UX is a in house writer I believe.

Head writer for L was Katou Youichi who wrote Aikatsu, Uchuu Kyoudai/Space Bros, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 and is currently rolling in money from writing Yokai Watch.

He also did the Gundam SEED character theatre from way back if anyone remembers, they were those SD Gundam style shorts just taking the piss out of the series.

It depends on how awful the english translation is.
For Zoids Saga for the GBA, the translation for that game was so fucking terrible, I couldn't play it. It didn't help that I had already gotten pretty far in the Japanese version.

For SRW though, as long as it has a cast I like, I'd probably still play a shit-translation. It's not like I can read it anyway.
