***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

This is snap-built. The pictures of the kits on the box and official websites are usually done-up with paint. My name 'Snapfit-Kun' is a reference to snap-building since I haven't done much with my kits other than that.

So quick question, I was going to get one of the Full Armor TB Gundam models & I'm curious, is a minor difference in color the only difference between the original HG they made for it & the new one they made for the anime or is there something else I'm missing?

It's not a backlog. Those kits are kits I've built already. As for snap-building, I much desire it. I got into gunpla when I was a teen and I threw all of them out, lots of HGUCs, during a move. Nostalgia is what brought me back in, oh and G-Reco. Right now I think I own 65 HGs, that includes every G-Reco kit. I'm more of an avid collector than an aspiring modeller.

>>14581318
I just like all my kits to be the same scale and 1/144 is my go-to price-range kit. 1/100 has less variety too. You can virtually find everything in 1/144 scale. I don't see the point of paying more for something bigger. HG's do it for me.
>>
>>14581343
What about RG?

That's paying more for something more complex, and maybe even much harder to build. I don't like that. I like things simple and I don't see any merit in straying from HG's.

You realize that if they hadn't made the RE1/100 Efreet your chances of getting it in HGUC form would have been next to zero, right?
>>
>>14581532
It could've still been a possibility..

I just don't understand why they never did it. It's bothering me so badly that I have every Blue Destiny unit except the Efreet. You can't just say it's because it was an unknown or unpopular MS because all the BD suits were the same.

Yeah, the visors suck ass but at least those times are behind us now. Other than that though, the kit wasn't so bad.
>>
>>14581638

I know how you feel, I like Blue Destiny too, but in the end I'm just glad to get the Efreet at all. The RE1/100 looks very good. If only there was a RE1/100 BD-1 to go with it.

Here's what I really don't get.

Why did Bandai put out an HG of the Gundam Local Type? An MS that was literally never made in canon, that exists only as a blueprint that never happened? Why price it at 2000 yen when all it offers over something like the Revive is some decals? When it basically is the Revive with five different parts?

Why put out something like this instead of countless other suits that would surely have a larger fanbase than a suit that never fucking happened? I would bet my last dollar that if they put out a Gundam Pixie it would be more popular than the Local Type. Fuck, where's that? Where's my Gundam Pixie?

That's what keeps me up at night.

I'm using Tamiya acrylics because that's what my local hobby store has. Citadel paint works too if you have it. There also used to be a tool for determining what mixtures/paints to use to make a kit anime-accurate, but I think it's broken now.

>>
>>14581947

>>
>>14581947
That's exactly what I was thinking too

The only difference is the head and knees and groin, and some very minor changes in the backpack and chest

that's it

not so hard
>>
>>14581954

First off, no they don't cost "millions" of dollars. Tens of thousands, sure, but millions?

Second, Bandai's whole thing is they have advanced mold technology that means if they wanted to turn the Revive Gendumb into a Revive GM, they wouldn't have to make an entirely new mold. They would only have to make a small new mold for the few parts unique to the GM. It would cost a mere fraction.

Second, not only do they have the Revive RX-78-2, but they even have the HGUC GM II, which could become a Revive GM with the same amount of small changes to the mold.

It would be really fucking easy.

>>
>>14581980
A super simple mold costs a few thousand dollars. Prices go up as complexity and precision go up and gunpla are pretty high in both categories. And that's just a single runner (one mold).

Not to mention to pump out several tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of kits in a month or two you'd need a lot of molds. A HG kit could easily cost several hundreds of thousands to over a million just for molds depending on how big the production is, and gunpla tends to be pretty huge as far as toy production goes. You only see the same sort of scale from low-end kids toys (as opposed to "collectibles" like SHF or Figma) that look like ass.

You don't think a dull coat would make it look better? I guess since it's a space suit it might look kind of weird. Maybe I'll spray some of the runners and see how that ends up looking before I commit to spraying the kit.

>>14583314
Yes they are stickers, not water slides unfortunately. I already always wash my hands and the plastic thoroughly before applying stickers so I don't get any oils from my hands in between the stickers and the plastic to prevent the stickers from peeling off over time, but I typically like to put a layer of top coat on as well for protection as well as aesthetics.

So is there a rx-78-0? Where the armor in the arms, ankles skirt seem thinner with black white color scheme or did origin just replace that version instead of pushing it back?

I got rid of them because I like the grey better, I have since removed the rest of the stickers as well and have plans to give the kit a more subtle paint scheme (mainly grey and white with maybe a small amount of another color like navy blue) but until I get around to that I like to use the Build Strike as well as the Aile Strike as sort of test beds for certain modifications or weapon set ups I plan on doing since the body of both kits are just all around really solid and posable basic mobile suits. Here's an example of an idea I was toying around with a while back.

Why would you buy four kits to do "custom shit" with? Just buy one kit for your custom experiment shit and then buy a fresh kit when you want to apply that knowledge to something. You're just wasting space and money.

Amazon, with shopping high enough to get free shipping?

HLJ if you're buying in bulk. Amazon if you're just looking for single kits they have in stock + free shipping.

I used an eraser to remove panel wash and now it's leaving an icky residue behind. Is there a way to remove it other than 2000 grit sandpaper?
>>
>>14587410
What kind of wash are you using?
>>
>>14587410
this is why you spray gloss acrylic clear over your color coat before doing a wash, that way the mixture of enamel and lighter fluid runs much easier, and when you rub the lighter fluid on the excess it doesn't mess up the paint.
>>
>>14587413
The GM301 panel lining markers. I dab a bit to let the stuff flow by capillary action, then I use an eraser to remove the blots. However, I've noticed there's a weird residue which doesn't go away no matter what I use - IPA, ethanol, spit, cotton buds/Q-tips...

2000 grit sandpaper can clear the residue and I can polish it back up with a 4000 grit sponge but I'd prefer to avoid that if possible since it might ruin fine details.

>>14587417
dont even bother with the gundam pens just use enamel paint in bottles and mix your own

and of course using an eraser will fuck up the finish
you're supposed to use a qtip with something like zippo oil to gently rub away the extra wash
>>
>>14587432
The GM30X series is the panel wash markers, not the GM0X series which are more for drawing actual lines. Point taken though, I'll work towards mixing my own.How about the Tamiya accent colors?

And >>14587416's comment on lighter fluid suggests that it won't harm the plastic, which seems to have been borne out by a test on a used sprue. I guess I'll use that instead.
>>
>>14587439
all of this is assuming you are not trying to panel wash bare plastic.
>>
>>14587445
I was doing that, actually. It seemed to work on a 1/144, but the drawbacks seem to be showing up on a 1/100.

All right, so trying to panel line pieces on the sprue is bad. Does this mean I should assemble and then panel line? That way leads to parts being obstructed by others, although that's apparently what the easy-disassembly modifications are for, in addition to helping with masking.

It's not so much the fumes that are the problem with paint, it's when you shoot it out of an airbrush and you get tiny little paint particles in the air that your lungs won't like
>>
why are the freedom 2.0 wing canons so hard to pose? I'm trying to get the full burst pose off, but they can only really go out 45 degrees to the side and can't face forward because of the stupid v fin
>>
>>14589410
I also do this
>>
>>14588708
Would you say the process is even necessary for a kit like GM Sniper or a Jesta?

My gouf shipped today. Nothing but build ideas waiting for all this shit to some in. I had an idea for a hot rod zaku, then an idea for a squad deal with the gouf. But then I an idea for a ricer type 2 fast 2 furious 4 u, zaku. So i started thinking, why not both. Paint one zaku at a hot rod, and the other a a ricer, then figure out somthing along those lind for the gouf. they could be like a street gang. Thoughts? God, waiting around for all this shit to come in is giving be a tone of dumb/fun ideas.

>Zeon Street Gang.

Pimp out a Gyan and a Zudah and you've have a hell of a gang goin' on.

The RG Sinanju came in yesterday, so I started to work on my little custom for it.

I decided to paint the gold trims with orange. I think it will be a very nice colour. Any tips you guys can offer? This is my 2nd kit and I really wanted to paint it.
>>
>>14589635
see the first tip is: don't paint the parts while they're on the runners, holy shit
>>
>>14589635
Dont paint on the runners. When you snap them out, your gonna have little white specks where the part was attached to the runner. I did that with my mg char zaku and spent a fuck tone of time going back over everything.
>>
>>14589635

wtf did you doooooooooooooo
>>
>>14589646
Why not?
It just seems like a more convenient way instead of doing it one by one.

He said it was only his second kit, give him a break.
>>
>>14589650
I was thinking that since the pieces go under the other pieces, there won't be any nub marks to see.
>>
>>14589653
If you paint on the runners, when you cut off the nubs you're gonna leave incredibly obvious marks where you didn't paint it. If I recall right the RG Sinanju is supposed to be undergated, so you MIGHT be able to get away with it, but I don't own one and you really shouldn't be doing that in the future anyway.

Is there a 1/144 of the purple fucker from unicorn with the dhalsim arms? I feel like he should be in there to at some point.

Yeah it's called the Rozen Zulu. There's two versions. One where Bandai fucked up the colors and the other where they didn't fuck up the colors.

The first version is actually technically the lineart/novel colors.

The second one is the anime colors after they realized the novel colors are disgusting.

Either way, I really don't like the wood colors on it and would prefer something else.
>>
>>14589691
Why does it matter what colors it comes in? You are going to paint it anyways.
>>
>>14589699

Why would you not want to save money on paint?
>>
>>14589698
I guess its cool that they would make a version for both the novle and the anime, but godamn the one on the left is ugly.

It's the same with the Delta Plus.

The HG is the novel colors and design version while the MG is the animated colors and design.
>>
>>14589635
Those were coated in gold, right?

In the future, strip that by soaking it for a bit in a tub of bleach before painting over it. The paint will bond to the bare plastic much better than it will to a glossy painted layer.

Why do they never listen to the warnings of the cursed RG?

So I bought a 1/100 barbatos 6th form kit, since it has that beautiful mace and most of the form armor pieces. What's the word on it? Is it just itching to fall apart, or is it reasonably solid?

I'm also looking into getting the Zaku Big Gun set and was looking for some info on that kit's build as well.

I think if they were grey, or maybe the dark burgundy-ish color that the left one's shoulder's and torso is, could be good.
