***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Well, that's why I haven't ordered anything in a month. It's hard, though, because I doubt seam removal, painting and all that other shit is as calming and meditative as just snapping something together. I want to get into it, but I don't know if it can replace my desire to build things.
>>
>>14571144

If you're content to just snapbuild it's fine, as long as you're doing it well with panel lining and proper nub removal. If seam welding and painting seem dull to you, the answer is to work on two kits at a time, so you have something to do while waiting for the paint to dry.

Hey /m/! few weeks ago I asked for some advice turning a Titus into a subtle Maxter Tribute. Well halfway through I got the frankensteining fever and used some parts from a Zeong model and I gotta say, for a first time custom job I'm really really happy! Beam knees, laser fingers, custom paint job, and the sexy Maxter face-shield. Mmmm~ Anyway, just wanted to share and say thanks!
>>
>>14571200
It doesn't seem dull, it just seems like it'd have a different kind of appeal. I like snapping things up while listening to podcasts and seiyuu radio shows, and I doubt I'll want to do that while painting.
>>
>>14571206

Ask her why she wants to throw out shit that isn't hers.

>>14571212

That looks pretty nice. Good job.

>>14571222

You don't have to paint if you don't want to. But the actual painting process takes like, a minute. Most of the time spent painting is masking, thinning the paint, setting up the pieces to paint them, waiting for paint to dry, etc. You could easily do your weeaboo shit while doing all that.

Nah, I want to paint, I just don't know if I want it badly enough to spend 200 yuros on an airbrush setup.
I'll probably do it in the end but I've currently still got some doubt.
>>
I bought two kits almost a week ago now, the Zaku I Thunderbolt HG and Ryusei-Go Graze HG.

I'm pretty new to kit building in general and was wondering how the fuck am I suppose to separate some parts after they have been attached, as I now know what colors I want to paint them with. Is there any kind of tools or techniques I should be using?
>>
>>14571234
Its more like 90 euros, I think

sorry, americafriend and I'm not sure on the exact conversion
>>
>>14571239
I was recommended an Iwata NEO CN, which costs 75 euros. Sadly the Iwata NEO Mini Compressor costs 135 euros.
>>
>>14571236
Cut pegs at an angle to reduce surface area and friction, you can use a plastic cement or putty to cement them together if the part winds up being too loose.
>>
>>14571284

If I already have it built am I fucked?

For the most part I can section off stuff but things like small detail parts I think I'll need to mask and paint by hand.
>>
>>14571289

You can try to get your nail or the edge of your knife under the part and gently wiggle the pieces apart. For some parts that have a very tight fit, you'll just end up damaging the part. But it should work in most cases. Just have to be very gentle.

Pin them to your wall and display your gunpla on top of them.
>>
>>14571369

Yeah, it should not be too hard. Remember to apply a glosscoat after you paint it black so your tape doesn't tear off the black when you mask. Although if you use that modeler grade Tamiya tape even that is unlikely to happen.

I'll ask again since I posted just when the thread died.

What kit and scale would you like to have announced no matter what the IP? Bonus points for notGundam.

I'd love a MG Helldiver, the UN spider tank in patlabor 2 and the spider tank from the first ghost in the shell movie. In 1/35. A 1/12 gecko from MGS4, and all the other main metal gears in 1/100, from Main series ones like TX-55 to offshoots like the Gander.

I want to buy some of the old victory 1/144 kit. Do you people know where I could buy them?
>>
>>14571784
Some of the bots from Final Fantasy Type Zero looked nifty. Not this thing in particular, but I recall the boss robutt you fought at the end of the prolouge was hella nifty looking.

Now by kit are you meaning like something you'd have to build, or do you just want a scale fig you can just buy and place on your shelf in one fluid motion without stopping?

Literally the only flaw I can think of with the kit is that the rifle is too big, so as impressive as it looks, you're probably going to need to have it use both hands to hold it unless you tighten the joints with some superglue. And when you use both hands, the rifle is so big you have to fiddle around a little bit. That's why my hand pegs broke off.

Other than that it's nearly perfect. Almost a full inner frame, amazing posability, looks fantastic even with just panel lines.

>>14573079
Salt gun for scratches, or .22 for a bazooka hole. I want to see what happens with some .357 into an HG to get some dead gunpla, or even step up to .45 for something like a reactor explosion.

Can't look worse than the Fireworks GM.
>>
>>14573891
I would not recommend mixing them it. Try what you suggested first, primer then gloss black then metallic on a spare part or a plastic spoon. You may need to buff the pieces after to make them shine.
>>
>>14573079
I've heard burning a stick of balsa wood and using the ember to do laser damage works, and i've tried it, I like how it turned out. it also leaves behind soot if done right, so it's already done when you take the ember out, just needs a matte coat
>>
>>14573933
I would test fit and then take off all the parts from the inner frame and paint each piece rather than the whole kit. That way you don't have to worry about messing up that vinyl wrap
>>
>>14573949
Alright, I'll try that, thanks. Should I wet sand the metallic layer or just apply a coat of Future and wet sand that instead? Or both?
>>
>>14573977
Buff the metallic layer if you need to, but don't over do it since some of the paint may rub off. Depending on how shiny you want it, I would not recommend a top coat on those pieces unless you want a slighty duller finish. Alclad does have super glossy clear coat to maintain a super reflective shine, although I never used it.

It depends on what paints you use, how shiny they are, buffing tolerances etc. Practice is key.
>>
>>14574020
Alright, I'll keep this in mind and practice this. Thanks, anon.

Not painting this kit, just applying waterslides and sealing them with a flat matte topcoat.

I've already assembled one arm with the vinyl/plastic "cloth" underneath. It's a one way deal I'm afraid. There's really no good way of taking it off for disassembly once it's on without ruining the material altogether.
>>
>>14573534
The MG has an inner frame and is all around a more solid kit.
The 1/100 NG is like a beefed up HG. The differences in color is that the NG is a slightly lighter shade of blue and red and the stickers. Things like the raisers wings have blue stripes on the side.

Quite frankly, given that the price difference is 15 dollars, I don't know why anyone would buy the NG when the MG exists.

Just actually built that kit. You get most of the parts you'd need to convert a Cannon into a basic Jesta (one shoulder, one shin, and all the Jesta's weapons), so with two you could theoretically make a Jesta out of a Cannon. The only difference is that the it'd be stuck with the Cannon's bulkier neck collar.

The RG Titans MK II one of my favorite kits and one of the most structurally sound RGs right now. Plus it comes with the extra parts to give you the option to make the test version which I think looks even cooler than the regular MK II imo, so that's definitely an awesome feature. Also you can never go wrong with the titans color scheme.

I can't personally speak on the Nu but I have heard it is awesome as well and I have plans to get one at some point.

If price really isn't an issue I would say get both honestly. They are both really nice kits but if you are just gonna pick one I'm gonna be biased and say go with the MK II.

The nu ver ka is also as beautiful at a larger scale but consider getting the funnel expansion (p-bandai or knock off) to give that bitch some major presence as a model.

How the hell do you get lower part of the shield to connect to the upper part on the MG Mark II 2.0? The little teeth-thingies constantly fall off the part they're supposed to be attached to, no matter the angle or direction the upper part of the shield is facing. It's like they were designed without gravity in mind or something.

At this point I'm seriously tempted just to glue the upper and lower halves together because this is a poorly-designed mess.

Personally, I'm on the UC train, so I'd like the Mk. II frame turned into the Alex, if possible. Only the wrist gattlings ought to prove an issue - even if they decided to add chobham armor, given how fuck-huge the pieces would be, it should still be doable.

Considering they are only going for protag suits now, I'd say either the X or the Ground Gundam as they could squeeze a few P-bandai exclusive kits out of each.

So, I have a question.
Ive been getting rid of the sprues in multiple ways to test (sandpaper or file) and ive been finding the file works a lot better (sandpaper leaves this dull sanded look on the parts it touches, which is almost impossible not to do when the nub gets to almost nothing, and its obvious where it was sanded), but every single thing ive seen says use both, or just sandpaper.

What am I doing wrong. I got 150 and 300 grit and even auto sandpaper to sorta 'finish' it, but even then I can still tell where it was sanded. Am I wrong for liking to file it down instead and what am I doing wrong with the sandpaper.

Use higher grit. 1500 or 2000. Or, if you really want that part to shine, even higher grit from micromesh pads and sheets.

white primer for vibrancy, but it's probably also the lighting setup, the contrast with the background and a little digital retouching
>>
>>14577085

That's just normal paint

It stands out or "pops" because of the dark background and the grey base color and lighting

If Jimmy was white you probably wouldn't think much of it

If it's the brightness you mean, that's because it's not just your normal blue but would have a tiiiny bit of cyan to it (forming something closer to cerulean than blue), whether mixed in by the painter or sold as a ready made mix in some paint brand.

>>14577501
In the future, consider working with tiny pieces like that in a plastic bag/trash bag, like hands and runners inside the bag, so if things are flying off vertically or whatever they will hit the bag and fall within. Alternatively you could work over or (hands and tools) inside a cardboard box. I'm not sure when you are loosing hold of them, but if you contain your work area things won't go bouncing off into the ether.
>>
>>14577501
I held the parts while I cut the last gate so they couldn't fly off, then kept them in the box and only put them in place while holding the parts in that box, overkill maybe but I didn't lose any. And yeah cleaning the nubs on all those tiny ass ones wasn't fun.
>>
>>14577564

They didn't fly off when I even took them off the runners. I held them in place with an alligator clip when I took them off. It was when I was placing one in its slot, and it shot off. Then, I decided to try with tweezers and it shot out of the hold. Thanks for the tips, anons. Is there any chance any of those other bits are spares? While I understand what you're saying, at the same time it really can't be too much different from the Delta Plus, Delta Kai, Delta Gundam, or Mega Shiki. The legs, arms, head, and torso are all the same as parts on at least one of the previously listed kits for the most part. The only things that seem new to me are the feet, the shoulders and the backpack.

Even though I have all of the Deltas and two Mega Shikis, I'll probably end up getting this too. Kinda too far in to Shiki land to stop now. I wonder if there will be a p-bandai MP and/or a FA version released down the line.

Actually it's probably an all new mold that uses the more modern, smaller polycap tree by the look of it. Based on the promo pics it has balljoint shoulders which means retooling the entire torso. And so far each revive has been an entirely new mold. The rx-78 and redwarrior don't even share any parts despite being released close to each other and it would have been easy enough to do so.

And I don't see a revive kit taking the bulk of its parts from a mold that is now around 6 years old.

If you aren't painting its a stickerfest, check dalong.
>>
>>14580423

The general consensus around nipnong blogs is, it's a fantastic kit, but you have to use the stickers instead of the waterslides because the waterslides are too fragile to handle the stress of transformation and will tear.

It's got a lot of decals, which is pat for the course for Macross kits and if you take one look at the design it should have been obvious it had to be that way.

http://dalong.net/review/etc/md01/md01_i.htm

When assembled, panel lined, and properly decaled, it looks really good and is apparently the most solid Macross kit ever.
