***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Posting here if anyone'd like to help out.

Basically I'm going to be getting my hands on an obscure garage kit soon, a Dimension Diver/Daibadi Aphrodite A color resin type. A few other dudes are also interested in having one, but this seems so rare that the one I happened to snag seems to be the last one that could generally be found easily at all.

Basically, what I and those guys would like to do is find a means to recast the models' parts so that everyone can get the model rather than there being just the one. If anyone knows of a service or group that could help, or if you're up for it (hopefully without destroying the base model!), please do help out. Are you taking casting commissions, or do you know someone who does? If so, multiple people may be interested.

The model is articulated and uses separately purchased joints. I did ask /tg/ about this as well, the part casting shouldn't be difficult for those experienced.

The trick to getting the RG Freedom and Strike Freedom to stand unaided without needing a "Smooth Criminal" pose is to spread the wings as far as they go, and bend them forward a little. So long as you haven't ruined the ankles they'll stand just fine like that. The Aile Strike can be posed free-standing with the Striker pack attached if you do an action pose with it, like stretching out the gun.

One thing to be aware of for all RG kits is that if you pop the shoulder armor off a few times, it tends to get a liking for doing so and it can be a pain in the ass to keep it from doing that all the time. This goes basically for all the RG's that I've built - Freedom, Justice, Strike Freedom, Aile Strike and 00 Raiser, since they use the same attachment system for the shoulder pads.
>>
>>14490066
Why wouldn't you just buy stands? I learned my lesson after the 00 Raiser
>>
Currently building the VF-31J. I hate stickers. But I hate Bandai's decals even worse, so I'll persevere. Hope I don't ruin too many of them on the way though....

Have the forward fuselage and one wing assembly done right now, time to start work on the other wing.

Speaking as someone who's built a few HGs but hasn't really put a lot of time in the hobby overall, how are the Re/100s? There are a few suits in the line that I like a lot and I've been considering picking up (specifically the Dijeh, Mk III and Efreet). I hear that they're about HG level but scaled up to MG size, is that accurate?

Hi /m/
I read the guide, but I didn't find the answer to my question, so I'll ask it here.
I've been wondering how to paint gunpla the right way. I'm not new to painting (been working on warhams for eight years now) but I've never painted anything this big with this much detail before. How do you guys do it? Do you paint the parts on the sprue, then do touchups when removing them? Do you paint and seal each piece individually before assembly to prevent stuff scratching, rubbing or dirtying during assembly?
>>
>>14490339
I also painted warhammer for years, and what works for me is i snapbuild the kit first, then take it apart into sections that will be main colours, such as inner frames, different coloured plates, etc, then i paint those, then seal them when painted
>>
>>14490339
I'm new to painting Gunpla myself but I'm pretty sure it goes
>Cut piece out
>De-Nub
>Clean if needed
>Prime if needed
>Paint
>Panel Line/Panel Wash when dry
>Top coat
>Assembly.
I believe you do assembly last because sometimes parts will cover each other up so you'll end with some pieces with uneven distribution.
>>
>>14490339
What you don't want to do is paint the pieces on the runners, it's a bigger pain to clean up after nub marks and sanding than any other method. Generally, you want to paint pieces either individually or as a sub assembly depending on the piece and colouring. For example, you may want to keep the lower half of the leg assembled and paint the whole thing a solid colour, while you may want to paint some of the smaller details on the face as individual pieces.
>>
>mg g-self never
>>
>>14490647
It seems even though the blu rays sold better, the gunpla didn´t and Bandai just wants to forget about the whole line.

No, you bought the worst scale out there. There is literally no good reason to buy 1/100 when 1/144 does it better and with more kits to boot. If you go for the size, why get something only slightly larger than 1/144 when you could go PG. 1/100 is for hamhanded snapfags who lack the dexterity and precision to work with the superior 1\144 scale.

If you are en separate it by section to paint for even paint and total coverage, while masking poly caps.

I usually separate the kit into five parts: head, arms, legs. Then take out the poly caps if is easy or mask with tape

How much do you thin your vallejo? I have gunpla markers and some bright vallejo colors. I'm planning on using the markers on the frame arm girl I'm working on right now, and applying the primer and top coat by hand. Is that a good plan?

I have dark vallejo paints coming in the mail next week. Should I wait for them or just say fucj it and roll with the markers? I only have red and purple paints right now left over from the zaku I was doing last week.

I was only going to paint the metallic parts of her kit for now because I'm not confident about my flesh tones.

Sazabi deviates from the orignal design too much. Just look at all the necessary openings it has (that i circled). It's a wonder how simply shaking the kit doesn't incur all the pieces falling off

I enjoyed building the Sazabi more. The entire "pseudo-inner frame integrated into the opening panels" gimmick is so much better than Nu's destroy mode. That plus Nu's funnels are cancer OOB. I hated that crap.

I have a question:

What can I do to the joints if they were fitting before but after I paint the parts they don't fit as well as they should. I covered the male and female parts with masking tape before painting and applying a dullcoat and even cleaned the parts with thinner just in case. Pic related.

Also who ever did the line art for Tallgeese Centurion way back when, thanks. I hope I did it some type of justice. I still have to do some touch ups and apply decals, etc. But here it is.
>>
>>14492272
Is it possible the paint around the joints is just sticking together and giving them a hard time? Even if nothing specifically got in the connections, the thicker parts may not be able to move around he joints as well. Try cleaning down the joints and the areas around them a second time. As a last resort, you could shave down the pegs, but that's risky.

Anyone know if you can use clear paints to change the colour of beams?

You can paint it a similar color to what it is but a color change will bleed through

What do you guys use for topcoating?
Testors or Tamiya?
I keep seeing comments about Testors causing decals to blister and panel lines to get kind of runny.
>>

...thanks anon
>>
>>14495944

Tamiya's is easier to use by far. I think it even sprays out of the can more finely. Pretty sure all Testors has over it is availability and price. That said, Testors is perfectly usable as long as you do multiple light coats. Spray light, wait for that to set, then spray a little harder next time around.

If you do, you shouldn't have any problems. If you don't, you'll get the runny panel lines and blistered decals.
>>
>>14495972
The idea of runny lines and blistered decals really scares me as it'll be my first time going through the process. So, I'll probably grab Tamiya in the end.

I was posing my 00 Seven Swords/G and forgot to put the little adapter piece you use to store the gunblade thing on the right shoulder away. Didn't think more about it for a couple of months, then I took the thing down to give it another pose, and couldn't find the adapter.

I kept looking for the thing off and on for nearly *two years* before it turned up, but I finally found it on a table that was full of stuff I'd put there while looking for the part.

I need to invest in something to keep all the weird odd bits in...

does anyone else with the MG Turn X have problems with the backpack? mine is always falling off
>>
>>14496109
How? That shit slides in places pretty deep
>>
>>14494896

The problem with the Try Burning is that it uses a very different poly cap that has a ball joint socket, but is designed to fit into a cylindrical socket of its own. And when you put the ball into the ball joint socket, the poly cap expands noticeably. If you put the poly cap into its recess first and then attempt to cram the ball into the socket, it won't go in all the way, and there'll be nothing holding it in place. So the Build Burning's arms, if assembled according to the instructions, will fall off a lot.

If you insert the ball into the poly cap first, and then stick the poly cap into the hole it's supposed to go in, the edges of the hole will press the edges of the ball joint socket down around the base of the ball and hold it in place securely.

But this might not actually be possible to do with the Build Burning, since the hole the poly cap goes into is actually two halves of an outer ball, and the poly cap has little tabs that prevent it from being inserted from the outside.

So, my proposed solution to any new builders of the Build Burning and its revisions is to assemble the ball without the poly cap, cut the little tabs off the side of it, thread it over the ball from the shoulder piece, and then push the poly cap into the rest of the ball from the outside. That should fix the "falling off" problem.

(the HGUC V2 Assault Buster uses the same poly caps to attach its wings, but there the poly cap can be inserted from the outside without modification. If you build that kit in the order suggested by the manual, the wings will fall off with a particularly hard stare. If you put the poly caps on the T-shaped part that the wings connect to first, and then press them into the holes they go into, the wings are never coming off again ever.)

When I pour a batch of custom mixed acrylic paint into a glass jar for bulk keeping (ie, yellow-orange/brilliant orange for gunpla yellow parts), is it preferable to mix in 1 parts acrylic medium and 1 parts acrylic retarder?

I was considering this for Vallejo paints? Anyone?
>>
>>14496127
I don't know. the two pegs on top don't really hold that well.
>>
>>14496199

I would personally mix it each time, mixing for each kit will make each one slightly different and you won't have so many kits with the EXACT same color on them, which is noticeable.

I had to look up the manual to even remember which two pegs you were talking about.
It seems you need to push the part into place until you hear a click, so it could be you just didn't push it in far enough.
I've never had my Turn X's backpack fall off, that thing's pretty damn sturdy.
>>
>>14496215
Of course, I want to make a separate batch of a less lemony yellow in another jar.

But what can I say? I went to Yanase's site the other year and I like how he replaced the bright yellow of some of his gunpla with a warmer yellow orange.

I think testors is ok as long as you just do a few light coats with it. The only time I've had trouble with it was when I was still new to topcoating and laid it on too thick all at once. I used testors on this K9 and I think it came out alright, although I do prefer tamiya if I have the choice.

and yes I took the picture on top of my toilet, my bathroom has the best lighting in my apartment
>>
>>14496215
>mix it each time

I tend to have a hard time that way, getting the color exactly right using Vallejo deep yellow + german orange/scarlet + a little white

That said when I paint teeny gunpla eyes with this, the paint gets a little... lumpy and it's not a flat even layer, even when thinned. How do I fix this? More medium? More vallejo thinner?

That's not quite the part im talking about. I'm talking about the C12/11/25 part shown here in step 1(4) where the backpack attaches to. The backpack attaches to it fine, but the C12/11/25 part always falls off the back of the Turn X.
>>
>>14496279
Huh, weird, but same deal.
Looks like it clicks into place, and I've never personally had a problem there.
I can't really think of any other advice right now aside from make sure you don't have any nubs it the way and push it til it clicks.
If it still remains a problem falling off all the time then you could also just glue it on, but I really don't think that should be necessary.

>>14496522

Also, the kit itself is annoying. I can't transform it without the torso armor coming apart, so I haven't actually managed to try out the battroid mode yet. The Gerwalk mode is way too rickety for me to trust, and while the kit holds together really well in fighter mode, the landing gear sucks and the front gear doors won't stay closed. I have no idea how to display this thing like this, except maybe just biting the bullet and having it stand on its landing gear like my VF-25 kits.

>>14496535

The old fashioned way, peel them off, try to line them up properly, and when I finally get it right, rub them with a Q-tip.

It's just that all the ones I've been doing so far are very very long and slinky, so trying to get one end of the sticker aligned properly without the other end sticking to something it shouldn't is major annoying.

Hey guys, in your opinion what's the best way to paint a monoeye? I had read that one of the best ways to get a cool eye/visor effect is with a metallic paint then a clear color paint over it, but I can't seem to find a good clear pink. I settled for clear red on my previous model, and I used a section of clear pink beam saber runner for the kit before that, but that trick won't work all the time. Should I just settle for solid pink?

Yeah, that sounds similar to how I used the clear pink runner, but the kit I'm working on now is the Gouf R35, and the eye can move around. I'm afraid that adding a large physical piece like that might impair movement. Thanks though, I'll certainly keep that in mind for other future kits

Holy shit, does that actually work? I may have to give that a try. The only bottle of Future I have though has yellowed a little bit, so I don't know if that would have an impact. I don't really understand why snapbuilders post their kits. I'm a snapbuilder, mostly because I don't have an airbrush yet, but I don't really see any reason to upload pictures of my entirely generic snapped 'n panel lined kits that are the exact same as anyone else's. The main difference between your regular OoOut-of-Box poster and Snapshit is that the OoB poster doesn't proclaim that his most recent kit is the greatest accomplishment in this thread. Snapshit is disliked for his holier than thou attitude, his obvious samefagging, and his incessant shitposting both in and out of Gunpla General (And that's with the possibility that he isn't the misnamed filename guy). The one thing I'm glad about him is that he's admitted that he's purely a gundamfag, so basically any other show on /m/ is safe from him.

I mean fuck, the guy was patting himself on the back for using some glue to hold a thruster in place like it was some big ordeal. It's not like everyone in these threads are master builders who work solely on resin garage kits but don't brag about doing a simple task that anyone here has most likely done

>>14497044
It's partially just because people like that particular model.
It also helps with general feedback, say if you see someone posting a kit you're interested in, they don't need to have painted it to be able to tell you how the build went and what problems the model has.
Plus there's also a bit of pride people feel once they finished snapping together something. Sometimes it's someone's first or second model ever, and even if they don't consider it finished, just the act of putting together a model can be relaxing and refreshing in a way.

At least that's my guess.

sparkle green or clear blue action bases could look nice and add more pop to the model

Also I finally got around to snapping this thing, and I'm actually kinda disappointed with how the build turned out. All the joints are plastic on plastic, so you either end up with either really tight or really loose joints, the worst case being in the shoulders and torso balljoints. I'm still gonna paint him up so he can go with my Dougram and other Non-Gundam figs/kits, but I'm rather upset at this kit as a whole, especially considering it's about $30 for the whole set.

I'll build the Trad11 and Gallop later, gonna work on sanding this guy down some more

No. Honestly, the huge amount of shields just seems kind of stupid to me. Yet I got Psycho Zaku

Its the HGUC GM (head, skirts, gun) and the RX78-2 revive (legs modded with putty) I made it to try to get the hang of putty and some panel scribing
>>
>>14502429
you're gonna feel real dumb when the revive comes out
>>
Looks like daban arent dragging their heels
>>
>>14502431
it was worth it I got a good looking GM and some good practice with putty. It seems like Bandai is dragging their heels with putting put a few revives that need them like the GM, Zeta, GPO1.
