***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Let's see for any gimmicks before we settle on pure hatred. True the ZZII is lackluster, and we don't need all these damn bears, but Green [Q] might be decent.

>>14400109
Base was the Cathedral from the BF manga, MG probably never.
>>
>>14400191

The green Qant is ugly and looks like shit.
>>
>>14400172
First things first. Do something else, pick up an RPG you like and play for awhile. Don't think too hard about all the robots.
While you're playing this RPG download a show you've already watched, and wouldn't mind watching again.
Grab the easiest and most relaxing kit you have after RPG time is over and start at the top, don't stress too hard while you start clipping pieces. Make sure the aforementioned show is playing.
Does your attention waver? Take a minute and enjoy what's happening in the show, and then you can resume the build. Take it at your own pace and don't be afraid to stop building for a little while if it gets to a good part.
In case of differing tastes replace RPG with another type of game or relaxing activity of your choice.

Just remember that the build is not a race, and if you only build a chest piece in two days, then that's just the time it takes.

Look, if you don't just like the Qant that's just you, but the only significant changes so far are the ears and the backskirt. While I raise an eyebrow at the ears, I don't particularly hate it.

Hey guys, /m/alaysiafag here...

I've done this in spare time...

What do you think anons?
>>
>>14400266
Well it's a start anon. It's good that you have an intended direction, but you should really clean up all those nubs.
That aside, maybe strip the paint, sharpen the V fin and the center fin, and then repaint it, but make sure you thin out your paints properly, and don't rush it. It looks like your reds and yellows mixed a bit there. I would say do yellow first, let it dry fully, and then mask the yellow parts and paint the red one. That way you'll have clean lines and no intermixing.
>>
>>14400214

OK, it looks like we have an A runner with the red parts changed to dark green (?) and the clear parts changed to blue, a new B runner with only four parts in common with the old one (possibly multi-colored? There's a yellow bit at the solar plexus that's not from the 00Q, though it might be an insert on the A runner instead), an unchanged C runner (inner frame), and a new D runner (blade parts).

The cat ear part looks like it basically replaces the rabbit ear part on the original kit, and it should have an even smaller sticker sheet than the original Q unless there's something strange going on with the shield...
>>
>>14400301
The yellow part is simply the blue piece on the Qant in yellow.
>>
>>14400312

No, check the shapes again. The original is kind of V-shaped with a sharp crease at the centerline, the yellow part is flat in the middle.
>>
>>14400214
I can't be the only one who thinks that aside from the slightly silly cat ears the left is a much better design. Dropping red from the color scheme, simplifying the knee and shoulder armor while simultaneously adding detail, reducing the sharpness of the lower chest area to match the rest of the machine's "blunted" profile, adding definition the ankles... it's so many little things that on their own look much better to my eyes.
>>
>>14400388

Ankles are literally the same parts as on the original HG kit, I'm holding it right now and the legs aside from the knee armor are identical.

The shield might be a little bit busy though, I'll have to see it from a different angle (and see what other gimicks those blades have) before I'm sure.

Also, the parts for the standard V-fin (another change I missed earlier) and the rabbit ears will most likely still be included, so you can build it with the stock head if you want.

I just managed to break a peg of a 3-piece hand when removing the thumb section.

Do you guys practice any special precautions when picking hands apart, or should one just simply be more careful?
Is this inevitable for these hands and one should refrain from changing load-outs too frequently?
>>
>>14400609

Just got to be careful, like you would with any thin peg.
>>
>>14400609

I'd suggest a combination of being more careful *and* not changing loadouts as often, because the pegs *are* fragile, and most of the time they're ABS and not fixable if they do break. You *might* be able to salvage it by drilling out the broken peg from the hole and replacing it with a short metal rod or a pair of tiny neodymium magnets or something.

Pretty happy with how the seam welding practice went with Jim II. Much better this time around than on my previous kits.
I'm really surprised by how nice and tight all the joints are too. I wouldn't think that the dopiest looking grunt would be the strongest HG I've built.
>>
>>14401511

If you only have the option for one, go for hand paints, because you can do things with those that you literally can't with spray paints - like fine detail painting.

If you have the option to go with both, do so, because spray cans are much easier to do large surfaces evenly with, expecially if you prep properly (clean, prime, mask, paint), and there is basically no other way than spraying white primer followed by white paint of the right glossiness to get something that's actually white and even.

Airbrush problem guys.

It was my first time spraying Future floor spray from my airbrush (Badger Patriot) and I sprayed at about the 10-15 PSI range. First coat was a light mist and things went fine.

I took apart my brush and cleaned it while waiting for the coat to dry and do the second coating. But when I went back to spraying the airbrush shot out the liquid when I just meant to use air. And bubbling was happening while I was spraying near the nozzle/needle cap. I tried with water, same deal. I've sprayed before this session with thinned acrylic paints and it has gone fine.

I assembled how I always have, what's going wrong?

>>
>>14401807
Mainstreet Akiba has plenty of good stores, some resell P-bandai. Yodobashi has a great selection for gunpla and plamo. Try Yellow submarine at Akiba station, they sell gunpla parts (at a premium for sure, but cheaper than a whole new kit) Picked up The launcher and swrod pack from the MG Strike instead of buying the whole thing (don't need another 2004 MG Strike) and put them on my Ver RM

Gunpla boxes are pretty big, dude. I'd reckon it'd be worth it if you buy a shitton of them.
>>
>>14401678
No. Extra pieces of luggage cost way more than shipping, which also charges based on size of the package but but focuses more on the weight, and gunpla is light.
>>
>>14402224

Whether the charges are calculated more by weight or by volume depends on the shipping method, as well. EMS and SAL scale differently, and while EMS is more expensive for small orders, when you're ordering low density stuff like Gunpla or other Plamo, there's a break-even point where EMS actually becomes cheaper than SAL. I always try to order my gunpla shipped from HLJ in groups of four, because that's about where SAL shipping catches up and passes EMS shipping. And delivery within the week with tracking for less money than delivery "within the month" and no tracking is never wrong.

EMS IIRC has an absolute size limit though, so unless you can't fit all the kits in a box that's smaller than the maximum EMS size, don't try to send it that way.

All right /m/ after 2 weeks I finally finished my first kit, I'm making it for a friend and I fucked up on some plastic cement on his arms so the panel lining is a little screwy there, but how's the rest of it holding up? I'm going to hit him with a matte finish after this.
>>
>>14402886
Yes, I took apart the brush, dipped a paper towel and w-tips in Windex and then scrubbed the parts. Then I put it through my ultrasonic cleaner through a Windex/water mix for a few minutes.
>>
>>14402908

"Not terribly awful."

(seriously, good job. My kits are built OOB and not even panel lined most of the time, though I do try to take care of the nubs at least.)

No joke, you can dip a lot of the stickers into water as if they were a water slide. That will let you position them a lot easier. Just press it down flat with a Q-tip or something to soak up any water left over and it will stick when dry.

And no, the water will not ruin the stickiness once it is dry.

Weak hair joints, problems with the fit on the hair parts (requires cement + sanding if you don't want an obvious gap between the parts), the inferior legs (Stiletto and before's polycap ball version, not the upgraded Materia swing joint version).

Also half the price/content of the kit is the stupid MSG arms.

My backlog is kind of bare, it's been a lean six months or so. VF-31J is on its way though.

Ugh. Dusting the Gunpla shelf is always such a pain, every time I touch one of my kits they tend to decide that "no, not holding this pose today". Even if it's just plain standing up. Also, having to pick them up and look at them just points out to me very clearly what an inferior builder I am, but at least my Gunpla are in better shape than my regular plamo.

Counted on my shelf today: 23 HGUC kits, 15 other HG kits (HG00, HGAW, HG G-reco), 5 RG kits, and six MGs. Plus three VF-25 kits.

Short story time but
How do you deal with "Gunpla burnout"

I used to build kits 1-2 month. I love it. Even if sometimes I just snap build something just for the "hell of it" I was happy as fuck

Then it happened. I just buy kits and I don't build them. Heck I even wash the runners as well. A few days ago I saw "THE O" and the "GUSION" for sale in my local hobbystore. I've been looking for this kits for months now but I was too "Meh, they'll probably go to the stockpile anyway"

What is wrong with me? I used to even take photos as a tripfag as well.

I tend to stat with Weapons, then legs, then either arms, or the waist if I want the legs attached to something.

The RG's tend to start you with the legs, and work your way up, which is a nice way too.

On a side note, the cheek stickers make him look like he's blushing. Like all "Onii-chan, please build my legs, I'm indecent!"

The Avalanche pack if you actually look at it is boosters, more boosters, and boosters on top of the other boosters. And then the Avalanche Dash pack adds...more boosters.

The bulk of the Avalanche isn't armor, it's GN condensers to feed the GN particle thrusters. The backstory is that the pack is designed for high speed intercepts at long range, kind of like the Deep Striker. The story it shows up in has it used to intercept an asteroid that was on collision course with something or other.
>>
>>14409076
Also of note, Avalanche and Dash were precursors to the GN Arms

It sounds like the rod where polycaps go into the holes in the torso pieces may have been pulled back a little. Can you take a picture of where it's not clamping down, and the polycap out of the chest?

If it's what I think it is, then all you need to do is clip the excess off that has been pulled down, and it should fit, albeit it a tiny bit looser. Also, are you planning to panel line that Kimaris? I think a darker black is a good contrast on him, but that's just me. I still need to pick one up myself, but I'm kinda holding out for the trooper, or the Gaelio base with the orginal.

Here's the gap I was talking about. As for panel lining, I'm not a fan of it. It like the simplistic out-of-the-box look. Basically a snapfag, I guess. But yeah, this model is great! Picked it up for it's nice design and color scheme. My only gripe is having to constantly remove the shoulder plates in order to put the arm back in the polycap...
>>
>>14409847

If you leave nubs the size of the one on the left leg everywhere, then of course you'll have gaps. But in this case the gap may be because you've flattened the "pegs" on the poly cap so they're not seating properly. Very gently pry the thing apart, and see which part the poly cap sticks to. Then see if you have trouble putting the poly caps in the hole on the opposite side.

Still working slowly on this guy.

I wanted to post a less clean wip to show what it can look like while doing a lot of things to get the finished product nice. You sometimes have to make it look shittier to make it look better in the end.

So you can see lots of black shit, when you use dymo tape for scribing you can get lots of backing residue which shows up black and can grime things up. Also a few panel lines had waves in them so I had to cover them with liquid putty and will correct those soon. So this is kind of how it can look after a night of work while it's drying. Similarly you can see on the lower chest where I had one idea and scribed it, but didn't like it as much as I thought, so I had to epoxy fill it and sand it back down to start working on top again.

Sometimes shit doesn't go right or can look messy in stages but the only thing that matters is how it looks in the end.
>>
>>14411803

also on the arm gun pod, you can see a sheet is glued on top of the pod with a cutout. This is oversized and then the edges are run with capillary glue like tamiya thin and then shaved down to look like part of the original surface. That's how the little indentations on the pilot hatch were done too. This is just how messy it looks during the drying where you really need both layers to completely fuse together.

Model masters and vallejo are the only paints you should buy there for this. You can make any colors you need too.

I guess I failed this autism experiment. I probably could build an hg with doubles and not have it bother me if I ignore the lettering but I'll try to squeeze every penny of value out of this junk lol.

Theres this other one pic related that has 9 more slots and no lettering but it doesn't fold down and looks cheap as fuck should I buy it?

I also bought these spout things for mr hobby thinners. They seem pretty good. Airtight and solvent resistant which were my secondary concerns.

But they don't really satisfy my main objective of using them as a replacement for a cap AND dropper. I thought I would be able to open the valve just a little bit and the liquid would come out one drop at a time like a pippette.. and you can but you have to be pretty careful. tip it too much and more will come out, not enough and the thinner will run down the side of the bottle.

another waste of money but I'll make it work till I find a better way.
>>
>>14412138

Honestly I would just sand the letters off of yours, they are going to be more confusing than anything most of the time. You put them in once and then you basically only use one runner at a time so you know where it goes back anyway.

I have one of these. It's pretty handy, especially because I have almost no desk space to work on. Just space the runners out and ignore the lettering and it'll work great.

And don't let your cat knock if off the shelf and break a hinge off. Fucker.

>Not partsformer

There's like what... three? Try HG Airmaster. Retard simple transformation.
>>
>>14413054
Airmaster isn't really my... aesthetic. And I guess by non-partsformer I mean just not like a ReZEL or a Delta Gundam where you have to transfer parts onto a separate torso mold.

I've got a Flag, a Brave, and the Wing Gundams, Hrairoo Gaplant, if that helps understand my line of thinking. Thinking of getting the Methuss. I don't mind older kits, I just like the not-super-partsforming kits.
>>
>>14413068
The Methuss isn't that old is it?

You could take a look at the zeta plus but it might be a partsformer. Other than that there is always the RG Zeta....
>>
>>14413043
When I build kits, I use the box to contain all the parts I'm working on so they have less chance of getting away from me, I also build on my bed so even if I drop something it ain't going nowhere

The Messala only needs you to swap the two arm joints out transform so it's real close
>>
>>14413210
The Anksha is also a hamburger, with guns
>>
>>14413068

The HGUC lineup only has a few kits that don't transform by replacing the center section - ReGZ, Gaza-C and Messala are the only ones I don't see mentioned already.

Then there's Allelujah's units from 00 (Kyrios, Arios, Harute), and that's basically it for options.

Your poor choices aside, "solvent resistance" is not really a concern when your "solvent" is water.
>>
>>14412602
back in the day the gundams were made in a solid color.
>>
>>14413566

Yeah, it's old, and it really needs a lot more TLC than I gave mine, back when I built it. You will definitely need a pack of gundam markers for it, as it only comes with foil stickers for the eyes and the vents on the shoulder armor (which I didn't apply to start with, and now can't find); and there's a lot of pieces which are molded in a single color where a modern kit would use multiple, plus of course the various bits where newer kits would have foil stickers, like on the wings.

>>14413605

Yeah, but the RG ones literally won't stand on their own in a different pose, and the rest barely fit on the shelf in the boring poses, let alone anything more dynamic. Maybe of I took the fuel tanks off the full armor Unicorn, but then it too would barely stand.

>>14413846

I have three, but I think they're too tall for most of what I want to do with them, and they're all different colors so they don't look very good together. Also, I'd have to pick which ones deserved to be flying, and that'd be more difficult than actually posing them afterwards...
>>
OK so I want to go for a shopping spree for gunpla supplies like cements blades and airbrush colors. Point is that I'm new to the hobby and I don't know what some of the below things are. So any help is appreciated.
P.S I know what the cement is used for but don't know what these types are for.

Mr.MARK SOFTER NEO
Mr.MARK SETTER
Mr Cement - Limonene Type (Extra Thin) 40ml
Mr. Cement S
MR. Surfacer Pro
MR. Finishing Surfacer
Mr. MASKING SOL "neo"
Mr. Base White 1000
Mr. Color Leveling Thinner
>>
>>14414344
The RG 00 Raiser can stand on it's own. You just have to balance it's backpack accordingly with the feet which can't be too apart. But getting an Action base is better in all manners. If you get some Action Bases you can make it like a full scale shit throwing battle is ahppening with all the kits you have there.

Anyone here acquire one of the 1/72 VF-31's? Initial reviews say its a really good kit, bar waterslides/stickers.
>>
how good is the hambrabi HG? Are all those monoeyes stickers or little plastic piece? are they any annoying putting them on? Are stickers necessary to put on?
>>
>>14414460

Oh, right, forgot that the Raiser was still detached. Yeah, it'll stand on its own, and I *can* actually get the RG Strike to stand freely as well. The Freedom and Strike Freedom on the other hand... Also, the Strike Freedom is falling apart from over-handling.
>>
>>14414496

I haven't gotten mine yet, it's being shipped by SAL, but from what I've seen of the decal sheets you might be able to paint the white and blue bits and apply the things like the Chaos logos on the wings separately.
