***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Fabulous paint job right there.

Here's a tip for anyone who's sick and tired of the wings falling off of their HGUC V2 Buster or Assault Buster Gundams:

Basically, the problem is that the ball won't seat properly in the polycap socket piece that goes in the wing. This is annoying as fuck because this means the wing will drop off the ball joint if you stare at it hard. So, what I did on my second set of wings (I bought two Assault Buster kits) is that instead of putting the poly cap inside the wing and then plopping it onto the T-shaped piece with the balls on it, I put the poly cap on the T-shaped piece first, and then pushed it into the hole in the wing. This forced the lips of the poly cap down around the outside of the ball, and it's in there basically for good.

Now, the thing is that if you've assembled the wing the other way already, you can still fix it unless you've glued the parts - what you need to do is gently pry the wings apart, and then use a thin-ish rod (I used the innards of a ballpoint pen) and push the poly cap out of the hole from the inside. Then you put the poly cap over the ball, and push it back into the part, and put the whole wing together again. And it's never, ever coming off.

Happy modelling!

Kind of wondering what else went into that kit besides the obvious? I can see it's basically a Quanta with Unicorn arms, but it also looks like the knee armor was expanded, and I don't recognize the joint at the top of the arm (inside the shoulder armor) at all...

Mr. Mark stuff is for waterslide decals. MicroSet and MicroSol are used for the same thing will probably be cheaper and easier to get
The Limonene cement smells like citrus apparently, no idea what the difference for S is. Tamiya extra thin cement is probably more convenient anyways.
Surfacer and Finishing Surfacer are basically primers (supposed to smooth out small imperfections in the plastic)
Masking Sol R is just a different formula that does the same thing as regular masking sol (alternative for masking tape)
Base white 1000 is a primer
Color Levelling Thinner is a paint thinner that apparently helps achieve a more consistent coat (for airbrushing use). Also works really well with Tamiya acrylics IIRC

P.S I know what the cement is used for but don't know what these types are for.

Mr.MARK SOFTER NEO
Mr.MARK SETTER
Mr Cement - Limonene Type (Extra Thin) 40ml
Mr. Cement S
MR. Surfacer Pro
MR. Finishing Surfacer
Mr. MASKING SOL "neo"
Mr. Base White 1000
Mr. Color Leveling Thinner

- softens water decals makes them wrap around curves and sink into panel lines
- helps water decals stay
- literally cement with a citrus smell
-thin cement
-primer
-primer with a very fine finish
-liquid masking
-white primer
-thinner for lacquer paints that helps get a more even coat.

I have it and yes those are stickers and not clear parts for the eyes.

Overall I found it disappointing. For when it came out it uses some older engineering in places like pegs instead of balljoints for the hands and balljointed hips with no thigh rotation. It is also difficult to get it to hold the rifle and it may have just been mine but the forearms love to fall apart.

If they'd hold poses, I'd do just that, but many of them have joints too loose to do more than stand there now.

Some of the worst ones will be going in a cupboard to make room for my MG kits, as soon as my Unicorn and Sinanju action bases arrive.

Also, it really would be easier to pose the kits that will pose well if I could find all the parts for them. My 00Q is not on the shelf right now because I can't find it's sword. Which is double annoying because I own two of the things...

>>
>>14414690
>>14415150
>>
>>14415866

First of all, the phone is clean, that's not the problem. Some things that *might* be problems are the scratches on the lense cover (it's a Z2, the whole thing is glass on both sides, all of it scratch proof...except the lense cover, which is also the only bit that's not covered up by the protector I have for it), or the fact that I managed to drop it on a concrete floor when it was a week old and had to send it in for a new screen.

It doesn't matter what the reason is, my S3 took much nicer pictures than what I've ever gotten out of my Z2 in any conditions.

And seeing as it's *finally* paid off in full this month, after two years, it's time to shop for a new one, which will hopefully take good pictures again.

>>
>>14416061

It's real, apparently dipping the stickers quickly make them slippery like water transfers while remaining as durable as normal stickers, so you can get them into just the right spot and then rub them down with a Q-tip.

I have not had the opportunity to try it myself, but I am going to do so with my VF-31J as soon as it arrives. If it actually works I will be a really happy builder, because it'll take care of so many problems.
>>
>>14416099
Why not just use the water slides included?
>>
>>14416051
Photography is mostly down to lighting. The play of light and shadows can make some poses pop more than others. But having a bright adjustable light source is key. Bad lighting will make even the finest of paint jobs and models look bad.

Because the water slides included with previous Macross kits have been insanely fragile, and don't stick to bare plastic worth a damn. So as soon as you transform the kit, and get plastic-on-decal contact, you have a huge hole in your water decal with edges that chip further. This is even with clearcoat under and on top of the decal, btw.

The chief problem with stickers in my previous experience has been that unless they go on perfectly the first time, you're fucked, because if you peel them off and try again they won't stick. But when you do get them on perfect, the stickers are basically scratchproof on top, and only the edges are vulnerable to lifting.

So if dipping the stickers allows me to apply them like they were water slide transfers, with enough give to get them exactly where I want, and then retain the sticker durability once they're dry...

Try Amazon - for single kits, they usually can't be beat. Be careful to check so they don't add shipping charges after it says "free shipping" though, there's something weird going on where on the very last page of the ordering process, the one where pressing OK is going to charge your account, they sometimes add 20 bucks for shipping and handling after saying "free shipping". You can still back out at that point and find another vendor though, so it's only mildly annoying.

Also, some of the vendors send along fun stuff when you order from them. I have a couple of paper cranes that came with orders from AnimeOne I think, together with a hand written letter of "thank you for shopping with us", and a bag of tea and a pack of Gundam chewing gum from Sukiyaki...

Hey, this is acrylic right, and that means water based? Can I use this with the different gunpla plastics and Tamiya sprays cans? Remember reading on Tamiyas page that there isn't supposed to be any problems mixing it (in the layer sense) with acrylics and enamels.

Hey guys I'm returning to gunplay after dropping it for nearly a decade in favor of wargaming minis.

Am I good to go with how I paint 40k stuff re edge highlighting and needing to prime the whole model? I remember as a youth I used to just paint and PA el line over the plain model colors, but I'm worried about streaks on the large surface areas.

Also, how to keep whites crisp. 40k with the layers and priming make painting clean whites a pain, so I assume there's an easier way with gunpla.

Should I just use white spray cans?

Thanks.
>>
>>14421377
I suggest reading the guide.
>>
>>14421332
do you want a grey with a greenish tint like the original plastic? Tamiya Dark Sea Grey or Light Sea Grey might be a better choice.
>>
>>14421440
Hmm, never thought of that. Anything with blueish tint too?
>>
>>14421377
To get truly crisp white, prime with light grey, then prime with white, then white paint. If you try to do just white primer or white paint over vibrant colors you're going to get bleed, hence the grey.

And edge highlighting with a brush doesn't work to well on gunpla scale things and is a massive pain to do well. You want to shade and highlight with an airbrush to get a shading effect on gunpla and similar vehicle models.
>>
>>14420951
Make sure to test it out on some spoons first, some spray cans just blast out the paint and leads to terrible orange peel

News flash, companies show you the kit with all the paint and decals applied. You always have to put in legwork, even on Bandai shit.

>>
>>14421571
Like 99% of model kit boxart features painted, decaled, and even weathered kits done by pros. Bandai just spoils its customers and koto is standout for doing colored plastic and pre-decaled faces at all.

Coming from a largely MG background; maybe this is the case. Pic related is both kits assembled without decals, the only difference being that the Jesta is matte topcoated. Also ignore the pose, didn't even realise the similarity until I brought the box out.

>>14421600
I understand that priming, painting, weathering and topcoating are all steps that need to be to taken to get to what would be considered a "true" version of a kit; but I would still expect a kit to include at least waterslides to bring it up to the base colours displayed. Even if it ended up similar to the decal hell of recent YFs.

Maybe I'm just being naive, but as an anon without an airbrush I can't help but feel like my FAG should be more than she is, and I just want what's best for her.
>>

So, has anyone gotten the VF-31J built yet so they can tell us how well the kit holds up in fighter mode?

The VF-25 kits didn't do so hot in that mode (I'd know, I have three), and the shoulder joints were crap (I'd know, I've broken two - same one on two kits)

Has anyone else had any trouble with the MG Tallgeese's shield? Whenever I try to pose it with the shield on, the hand holding it ends up falling apart.
>>
>>14422273

Yeah, I've built the Tornado, and it's better than the Super Messiah, but the shoulder parts still really don't want to line up flush with the rest of the upper surface in fighter mode. The Armored is the only one that *really* holds together tightly in fighter mode (mostly because the offending parts aren't visible under all the addon bits), but keeping it like that is kind of a waste.

Plus, its shoulder is about to break if I transform it again.

If this VF-31 sticker trick works out, I think I might start buying some replacement VF-25s in between the VF-31s.

I'm thinking of getting a cheap HG kit to practice painting on. Given that it'll be my first try, I'm looking for something cheap but decent looking. I'm not a fan of the Hi-Mock and Zeon kits really aren't my thing, so can anyone recommend a Feddie grunt or GM or something that's really cheap and looks decent? Rock bottom cheapest HG available right now is IIRC the RX-78-2 Revive - it's 1000 yen MSRP, and sells for 850 at HLJ. It was probably deliberately priced as a throwback because the original HGUC RX-78-2 was also 1000 yen, and they haven't made any HGUC kits that cheap in the last five years that I can remember.

More difficult all around. Unless they have a website you can buy from you need to attend a show or con where they have a booth/table. And they tend to be much more expensive than similarly sized official kits.

On top of that the vast majority are resin kits and quality of the product varies from group to group.

Do not get one thinking you'll just snap it together and spraycan it.

MG have more parts to lose, RG have more parts that you can break easily. So long as you're careful and don't do either, they're about equal tier difficulty. But if you lose a piece of an MG you have a shot at finding it again, but if you break a piece of an RG you'll need a new kit because most of the parts that do break are too tiny for most ways of fixing them.

Also, most RGs come with bigger sticker sheets than the corresponding MGs, which is where the real difficulty is. Some of those just won't stay on... (I'm looking at the blue ring stickers that go on the GN drives of the 00 Raiser, which peeled off within a day without my touching the thing...)

Quick question from someone new at this.

I desire a version of the Sazabi (that or a Sinanju), however it seems like there's 8 different Sazabi kits, unless some are just the same one with different boxes. I just want whichever one's the best looking but could also stand next to my other HGUC and be the right size

No. Lacquer thinner on the other hand CAN make plastic brittle, and ABS plastic in particular hates it. Also the industrial-grade thinners are basically concentrated sulfuric acid to gunpla parts; avoid them.
>>
>>14430498
Because stuff like enamel will make the the plastic brittle if too much is applied. I want to know if the same since most top coats are lacquer.

From experience the Tamiya ABS Cement is extra fucking strong and will turn ABS into liquid while the Mr. Hobby is thinner and evaporates quickly.
>>
>>14430537

Are they? I know many of the rattle can paints are lacquer based, but the top coats are supposed to be acrylic because lacquer will attack enamel paints.

Then again I use Future (or rather, the local equivalent) for topcoating when I bother, and that thins with water and cleans with window polish.

I know what you meant, but I wholly disagree with you because you're making shit up. You're completely distorting and strawmanning the very reason he has, and many others in the past, proposed a border wall. You genuinely don't seem to know what you're talking about.
>>

regular bruh. Its not a recolor
>>
>>14433725
and whats the reason? Are we also gonna build a wall on the canada border?
>>
>>14433869
Thanks.
>>
>>14433883
The reason is to prevent and discourage people from Mexico and even South America from ILLEGALLY entering the country. This is a problem as people are dying trying to enter, they have no documented medical history or vaccinations, are being used as drug mules, being kidnapped along the border, etc. Children are even sent unaccompanied by adults to try and cross and they have nowhere to go once they enter.
>>
>>14434033
That's not the reason the Trumpster used to justify his wall. Don't make him out to be some sort of saint worried about the illegal immigrants.
>>
>>14434061
Actually disease is. He even claimed they could bring Ebola into the US, which was never justified.
>>
>>14434108
Sad thing is that if he said Zika, he might actually have a claim.
>>
>>14434033
You make it sound like the objective of the wall is to save the lives of the people illegally crossing but if that was the case why not make legal immigration easier? Give them a way to become citizens that is safe, not just for the richer mexicans. Then all this stuff can be avoided.
America is the land of opportunity and in general a better country than most for some of these immigrants its a matter of life and death they have no better choice but to come here. there's nothing more american than risking your life crawling through sewer tunnels, running from hounds, being packed in the back of a truck with 20 other sweaty people for days just to have a CHANCE to come to a country where you can feel safe and WORK hard to provide a better life for yourself and your family. That is literally the most american thing one can do. Its reminiscent of the people who fled European countries and faced disease and death in the journey just for that same chance hundreds of years ago. IMO if you're willing to go through hell to be here and go through hell to stay here you belong here.
