Gunpla / Plamo General

***READ THE GUIDE***

https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1Tr8UyF2Xg5Ojqw0sxcO7oIG7IIsJPes3lMO5pHZKu5o

***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

New Patriot owner posting. The Patriot has a large needle, so it lets out paint at a faster rate than normal and t can't get quite as much small detail when spraying. It can be changed if you get a conversion kit for it to a smaller type that Badger sells. I would count that as an important deciding factor.

>>

I wouldn't know, ordered the Patriot online and it came with the default. I don't believe it is from looking on Amazon, it's not a seperate version of the brush but a different needle/nozzle setup. That would be stupid on the part of Badger because then they would need to make two conversion kits so it could go both ways.

I just saw the pre-order light go up on that glorious mother fucker, but I remember the show pics when showing off the shield and it looked...kinda empty.

Was there any pics of the backside, I kinda want SOME detail but it won't deter my purchase.

It'd be just good to know how much the rg blows the mg away, apart from the whole grenade myth

alright /m/
no work all long weekend and college is done for the semester so I'm giving this a crack.
Any word on how it is?

also it's my birthday in a week or so, so I'm going to be stupid and buy an expensive as fuck kit. PG Zeta or something fucked. Any reccs?
>>
>>14304492
Strike rm retooled, I hear good.

Last I heard pg zeta had screws but if you want that go for it, otherwise that big as fuck scorpion zoid or a pg unicorn (an easier build) are mine.

But I'm a unicorn fag so ignore me
>>
>>14304492
PG Unicorn, my friend. Final batter/Full armor if you can manage.
If you're going to spoil yourself go the whole mile.
>>
>>14304489
It's definitely a step up because of surface detail and complexity, but it's only really worth it if you like the Qant enough to buy it. Otherwise you're free to ignore it.
I'm holding out for Pbandai full saber or some shit.
>>
>>14304501
I can get on board with that.
All fags are welcome

>>14304505
To be honest I am so tempted for PG Unicorn. I love the design and I did a HG Destroy 1/44 a few days back and it was fun, so I can imagine it'll be even better. My local does have the 1/60 Skyrouge and the MK II prototype from Zeta.
>>
>>14304516
I especially suggest the Final Battle/Full Armor because they only came out recently so it's not going to destroy your wallet like it could potentially if you decided you wanted it in the future.
That aside though, I have no experience with PGs yet so I can't really weigh in on much more than at least wallet sense and potential envy. Just make sure you check dalong before you settle.
>>
What is the definitive Banshee (any grade) in your opinion.

Norn can eat a dick.
>>
>>14304516
>>14304522
The issue I have with the pg unicorns is they're just upscaled mg's with extra articulation.

Its not like old pg's where they had amazing inner frames, the pg unicorns are design just to hold it together and when it can't hold its own rifle up without modification we have a problem.

>>14304532
MG ver ka novel version.

Plain simple but still blinging, really needs a dark paint job though
>>
>>14304532
not the MG Banshee kit because I have it and its fucking trash. Just way too heavy in every way.

still, fuck the norn
>>
/m/, what is your dream model kit? Doesn't have to be likely or even feasible.

Me? I want 1/10th scale model. I don't care what mobile suit it is. I don't even care if it'd have no articulation. I just want a 6 foot tall gundam or zaku or something to stand up beside my door to greet/scare away people.
>>
>>14304573
I would do endless illegal things for a 1/3 Rick Dom just to sit in my backyard
>>
>>14304573
It exists. The 1/12th scale Gundam already exists.

Well, not quite 6ft, but close.

I feel like if they had a more "Wing" shape to them and it were smaller it'd be way cooler.

Those weapons look interesting though. I particularly like the thin sword. Makes me think of Raiden's blade from MGS4 and Revengence.
>>
>>14304618
just putting it out there

If you put the screws in the wrong way you can fuck up a kit, my mg master gundam can't hold a pose properly, first I thought I had them right but parts wouldn't close over it, so I un done them and tried again, the screws kept doing even more crooked so in the end he has loose armor that flies off who can't hold a proper pose, your experiences may vary

>>
>>14304641

I'll be honest, a part of me likes this thing just because it is so retardedly over the top edgy, but this image has done more to turn me off of it than anything. Those shoulder wings are absurd and that official publicity photo looks fucking goofy because you can see they're actually getting in its way. And why would you put wings that let your mech fly on the shoulders, a place where it's extremely likely to get hit?

So uh, I'm using Gundam Breaker 3 to plan out some kitbashes, and I'm having trouble deciding on something.
Which sets of legs fit better on this? Would you guys suggest something else entirely?
>>
>>14306122
A with 3's color scheme, but leave the leg thruster, knee triangle and possibly change the ankle piece to or have part of it blue.
>>
>>14306181
Yeah, that would look pretty good on it. Kinda sucks how GB3 kinda limits how many areas in each set of parts you can color differently.

Anyway, I like how the Alex legs look on it too, but it kind of bothers me how the Stargazer's stomach is pretty thin, while the Alex's waist that it connects to is kinda wide. It doesn't look, idunno, natural. But maybe I'm just overthinking it. What're your thoughts on that?

>>14306226
The skirts on A are the most GM like to me but 3's work better with the torso.

A possibility would be adding something to the bottom part of the torso with some plaplate or something to bulk it up.
>>
Any others BRs here ever bought from HobbySearch or Hobby Link Japan?

I only ever used AmiAmi, and it works pretty nicely, but just wondering if those other two are any better.
>>
>>14306038
I have the normal char one and have some protips
glue on the elbow armor, it falls off. Mine disappeared after a friend on LSD decided to play with my gunpla.
In fact you should probably glue on most of the little armor pieces on the arms, none of them have connections that go deep enough. The legs are fine, though.
Also don't bother with the foil stickers on the claws. They work about as well as stickers that go around corners always do. You'd think bandai would give up on those after making gunpla for like 40 years
>>
>>14306258
That's a good idea with the pla plate.

The Shiki's legs were my first choice too because I like how they look, but the more I look at it the more unsure I become about whether or not they fit the build. Something about it just seems off to me. I like how skinny they are because I'm trying to go for a skinny look, but something about it just doesn't feel right. I'm probably just overthinking it.

Because they make all the money, without the risks. If they print mass amounts of that shit, there's always that risk that it won't sell well and they'll either lose money or not make much.
With P Bandai, they only release as many as ordered, so they make all the money without having to worry about the kit bombing.

It's good business strategy, but is complete bullshit. I understand why they do it, but I'm not happy with it.

Is it safe to use a metal file to clean the marks on my model? I have a file set I use to clean flash off my war gaming stuff, but I don't know if it will just make the cut spots look worse or not, since it's colored plastic.

well since its plated to my knowledge it'd involve stripping the plating and then painting gold on for the best results. >>14307278
Nothing tonight I think, don't think i can be fucked to airbrush my duel's inner frame

>>14307385
Eh might be worse might be better you could always try a bit on the runners, sanding sticks are the safest bet
>>
>>14307385
Japs seem to like using metal files. You could always try filing off a bit of the runner, maybe even where you cut a piece, and see how it turns out. Won't be 100% accurate, but it could give you an idea.
>>
>>14307432
It's the regular one, so no plating.
I was thinking of painting the gold, but I'd need to buy something good then because the only gold paint I have is Humbrol and it looked like shit when I used it.
>>
>>14307449
Might want to look into Alclad then, an old trip richigo used to do all of his builds and they had a fantastic metallic/candy effect

Shit, that looks bad. Are there any visible dents in the cardboard box. or is it clean? If the container box is damaged, then it might have been HLJ, and you should send an email in to them, otherwise, it might just be the carrier, which you can't really do anything about besides file a complaint, maybe?
>>
>>14308914
I have. He'd better survive until then. As much as I loved G-Reco, I think it would be fitting for his last series to be an original. And maybe clean up some of the shittier parts of Byston Well with the magic of retcons and further exploration because as a whole it's not an amazing setting. But it could be with a little more work. Anyway, a Tomino fantasy mecha is recipe for something strange, which is what I love best.

Nah I already have enough bodies in my basement. I don't need another one from some stranger that showed at my door saying "I got some dank gunpla for you man"

The best part is that you can swap out little parts for something closer to your own preference and it'll still look wonderful. I'm actually thinking of switching the Gyan shield with a Palace Athene or Jagd Doga or even a Sazabi shield just for kicks, and maybe replace the cape with something. But at the same time, it's already basically perfect. I'm really glad at least one of the three designs is this cool. The ZZII and Pandagguy aren't exactly the most inspired.

>>
>>14309617
Someone else asked about this on the toy thread so I wrote it up

Essentially, at SCGMC last year they had a pretty big fuckup. They did all the winner announcements and awards and stuff, one of my models was one of the announced winners at the event, I got a little trophy thing, went home.

Like 3 days later I'm online and see that one of them made an announcement on their blog that I found linked through somewhere else where they said they announced the wrong winners, woops.

So, I told them that it was kinda shitty that they didn't inform all the people who were incorrectly presented as winners and who should have been the winners before the announcement, cause that's kind of a huge buzzkill to stumble on to randomly. It would have been the professional thing to do.

I tried talking to clem about that in a comments section on the gunpla subreddit about it, he pretty much blew it off so I posted it on their facebook page and clem got super pissed off and went nuclear.

I was formal about it, and he was not.

Meh, if you want to run an event under the facade that you are trying to be professional, be professional. I mean there were people who actually won commenting there finding out for the first time well after that post was made. They had everybody's emails and such, they just didn't want to do it.

tl;dr - They dun goofed, didn't want to directly tell the people they goofed on that they goofed, Clem from TGG got inappropriately hostile when I tried to tell them that they should have made a real effort to inform the people they affected that they had goofed.

Anybody here own an ultrasonic cleaner? I just had mine arrive earlier today. I tried using some isopropyl alcohol in it to strip old test parts I had painted in acrylics as a test run, but the paint didn't come off. I gave it two passes in the machine at 3 mins each. Is it just supposed to weaken it or fully remove paint? Should I put in Windex or Simple Green instead?

Any knowledge of proper use or tips would be helpful, thanks. Also in terms of washing recently sanded parts before priming, and airbrush parts after a painting session. Just don't want to presume it's broken be wrong since I'm doing something wrong.

The cleaner in itself doesn't remove paint. It just speeds up the process compared to letting pieces soak in solvent. I use glanzer to remove acrylics, for example, and instead of having to wait +12 hours, it's removed in two runs of the machine. It's also much more effective to get in recesses. I'd say you're using the liquid to soak in.

Jesta Cannon/MG guy here...

Took me six hours to get this far... I've never done ANY type of model kits (bar lego) before and I was scared of being bad at panel lining...

... I don't think I'm awful - I tried to "scribe" with my knife onto the top of his calves to help the ink stay in place but I slipped, twice and scratched the model :(.

Overall I am really impressed with myself that I managed to make this - I've been put off doing stuff like this in the past because I can't really paint or draw but I've really enjoyed it.

Thank you for the advice guys, you are great :)... And I'll post the model when it's done with better lighting + pose, this is just a quick thing to show you how much I've done in one sitting.

Cool anon!
You can only get better from here.

exacto knife scribing isn't really ideal but if you really want to try it I'd recomend making "dots" along the pannel line groove with the point of the knife first. then slowly dragging your knife through the groove from point to point kinda like connect the dots. so you knife has a more defined path to follow.
I still dont really reccomend it.

I think the ankle guards aren't really a panel line its supposed to be one solid piece by welding the seam. Just a nitpick tho, idk if you meant to do it on purpose.

Thanks. I'm at an entry level now but I hope I don't stagnate here. I wasn't sure how to reference the kit since I don't know a lot about which models from what series have which grade but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

My first two kits were RGs and I had a lot of fun building them. I got this one mainly because I wanted to try a different grade and to have a larger model when finished.

I agree on this, but there's really no way this Zaku won't look like shit.
Now the FAG on the other hand? I actually prefer the HG proportions tbqh
