Yeah, I think the designs going to suffer either way since they're leaning so heavy on the alien aesthetic. Whether it's CGI or physical suits, the crew still needs to make sure they conform to human proportions. That's not going to work when the designs themselves are stretched and skewed.

Lost Galaxy and RPM, I think. For LG, they had to completely change the theme and setting (Forest to Space) and also created new main villains (the Gingaman villain only appeared for an arc toward the end). RPM is probably the most changed from the Sentai, but I'm not sure if it has the most American footage. I'd defiantly say it's in the top 5.
Season 3 is likely up there, since the only time they used the sentai footage was during the Alien Ranger mini series.
In Space and Lost Galaxy are also up there, mainly because the change of settings (video games and jungle animals) to outer space would require alternative settings.

So I haven't really watched PR since SPD/Mystic Force. Saw bits of Samurai and the Mega Force Special with all the old rangers. Is it worth taking the plunge?

The old rangers thing in super megaforce sucks, so stay away from it unless you really want to watch it all, and even then Overdrive and even Samurai are better options.

IIRC it was when Fox was airing both Power Rangers in Space and a Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. They tried promoting the latter with the former since it was still wildly popular.

For all they tried (Turtles, Mystic Knights, Masked Rider, Galidor, VR Troopers), they never could get a second toku franchise to catch fire quite like PR did. Beetleborgs came close but that just wasn't sustainable.

IIRC, VR Troopers started before Metal Hero ended, so they technically seemingly had a permanent source of footage there. The issue came from the footage used being old and then not having the actual suits to record new battle scenes to make the footage transition more smoothly.

First, who said we like Power Rangers over sentai? the first /prg/'s OP even said sentai is better. Just because you like one thing doesnt mean you can't like the other, or that you can't discuss it. Lots of people like both Sentai and Kamen Rider for example and discuss both, even if some prefer one over the other.

I personally like sentai better but I like both franchises, and it's probably the case for many people here. Of course, some may prefer PR, or some don't like sentai, or havent given it a chance. But just because we're discussing power rangers doesnt mean we like it over sentai (or over anything else, I mean do you only discuss your favorite franchise? Because neither power rangers or sentai are that for me.).

I like both shows as their own thing(which is what they are), obviously, when they are good(which is most times). Regarding the usage of sentai footage, intuitively you may think it as a limit, but it isnt(or shouldnt be), it's a tool, and the good PR seasons use it appropiately. Seeing the writers work around those is entertaining.
Which, btw, is something also appealing in sentai (and Kamen Rider), since the show is also "limited" by Bandai restrictions (each episode there has to be a morph, a mech fight, you have to present the planned toy catalog, on which the budget is centered in, and to go along with the toy releases, the christmas episode, etc.). They arent that different in that regard.

It's baffling just how outspoken they are. Any gentle mention of it is enough to set these certain fans off.

Most people here are cool with both/acknowledge that Sentai is generally better. Myself, I've been watching Sentai since Go-Onger, though I didn't finish Ninninger and stopped watching Zyuohger because of classes.

It's honestly just something I loved as a kid, that learning that it was adapted from a different show deepened my appreciation for it, because it's just interesting to see how they use the tools given to them.
