I love shape shifting armors. Shame that whenever Stark builds one, he eventually loses it because they have to retain brand synergy with the MCU

The inset head on an armor that is not Hulkbuster-sized disturbs my well-being. Either that has to add a bunch of superfluous shoulder armor or he's going to have spine/neck problems.

The morphing thing is cool, but just in its "normal" state it looks more like a rubber bodysuit than armor. It's like they tried to make it TOO sleek.
>>
>>14164563
Does it bother anyone else that he shoots the repulsor with all those civilians in close proximity?
>>
>>14164502
I'd beg to differ, seeing as it seems to get more durable the longer Marvel goes on.

It merely gets more and more compact, which is fitting given that the Iron Man is all about techilogical progression, practicality, and miniaturization.

>>14164544
Probably artistic licence via the artist. Take a wild guess where a good majority of western animators and artists derive inspiration from.
>>
>>14164574
No. Stark's clever and competent enough that his targeting systems are likely advanced enough to tell him when it's safe and not safe to shoot.
>>
>>14164785

>more durable

If you mean its regenerative feature then sure, but there was a time when Iron Man can wade through a sustained blast from a cosmic baddie or take several big punches from a certified Class 100 threat and still walk away with only a few dents and scratches.

These days, a burst of energy or even a super speedster is all it takes for the armor to literally fall apart. Even Captain America hitting Iron Man with his shield at peak human strength can crack the armor open.
>>
>>14163770
>>
>>14164846
Well, I'm not sure it counts with Cap's shield. That's no normal shield. Many incarnations of Iron Man's armors rely on magnetic fields to enhance the tensile strength of the armor and it's defenses. Considering all the weird properties of Cap's shield, it's vibranium content and in more recent versions, it's Uru metal content, it's not at all outrageous that it would be abnormally effective against Tony's suits. There's more going on there than being hit with a piece of metal.

That said, I agree with you aside from that. Ever since Extremis, the Iron Man suits seem to be a lot let resistant to damage.

So I think this armor looks cool, and I'm a big fan of 60's Iron Man, I think those old issues hold up very well, with Tony Stark constantly having to outweigh having enough power in his chestplate to live, and then also being a hero which comes very close to killing him several times as he struggles to find a power outlet.

So I looked at this series and it looks like this July there's gonna be a crossover... Civil War 2... And everything in me that wanted to read this just evaporated.

I fucking hate those crossovers so goddamn much. They ruin everything, they block plot progression for like half a year if not more in the comics, the first Invincible Iron Man run by Matt Fraktion was completely fucking ruined by the Secret Invasion which took away half of the run for some story to get Stark back to Status Quo. It has such a good starting arc, "The Five Nightmares", and then it all turns to trash with the fucking Secret Invasion, and the recovery arc takes so long that before it's over the next crossover begins.

When the fuck is Marvel gonna realize that this is the absolute worst thing about their comics?

>>
>>14167114
>When the fuck is Marvel gonna realize that this is the absolute worst thing about their comics?

When it stops making money from the comic normies or when they stop making marvel movies. So probably never unless a catastrophic event occurs that somehow manages to wipe away Disney and their hidden stash of robot-lawyers in some hidden asteroid gateway ready to activate when the Mouse tries to take over the ruined planet.
>>
>>14167161
The movies are (so far) fine, but in the comics the whole "everyone is in the same universe" feels like the worst thing ever. I just wanna read stories about Iron Man, I don't care about the fucking Avengers or X-Men. Cameos or occasional crossovers is fine, but this fucking Secret Wars bullshit has been shit from day one. Have they ever researched to see if people actually give a shit and pick up fucking Fantastic Four comics just because they show up in an Iron Man comic?
>>
>>14167114
When it stops making them more money than normal comics.
>>
>>14167114

> When the fuck is Marvel gonna realize that this is the absolute worst thing about their comics?

When it stops selling sufficient numbers to no longer be a viable marketing tactic and not one minute more. They're a company first and foremost and care about profit more than entertainment and quality. They're literally obliged to by the rules of corporation, and if they don't the heads of Marvel can be prosecuted for not putting profit first as well as fired.

Comics are likely to go through a major shift before that happens though, being honest, because even the best selling comics don't shift really shift more than 15, 000 or so issues a month. Which just isn't that great. Combine that with the fact it's really only two big publishers and one major genre (superheroes) and you can see that comics are in trouble and surviving on borrowed time.

I don't know if it'll be internet publication of more genres, or cheaper publishing on lower quality paper in black & white or what that does it, but something must really.
>>
>>14167179
With respects to the movies, I meant to say that the comics were basically cashing in on the movie hype that Captain America: Civil War is bringing, hence a second Civil War. The movies do have the benefit of doing their own things, but Marvel's decision to make the comics more in line with their movie counterparts leads to decisions like this, where you have a comic event to take advantage of the awareness that the movie brings.
>>
>>14167182
Then I hope all the comic stores and the nerds that frequent them burn up.

It's so fucking bizarre that they sell billions on comic book movies that are based on their comics that are becoming more and more niche.

>>14167185
I just question if they've even tried. Both Marvel and DC have recently done full reboots in an attempt to beckon new viewers but if they don't also try and change their practices to avoid this shit then it's gonna do nothing and they'll learn nothing. They are never gonna get out of this downward spiral unless they seriously look over their business model and find out why it is that people don't fucking care about comic books unless they are limited run stuff like Watchmen or miniseries in a separate universe like Red Sun or American Alien.
>>
>>14167185
My bet is on internet publication, though even that might change with how the new generation consumes media in general.
>>
>>14167199
Even if they can beam comic books into my brain I'm not gonna bother wasting time on them when they keep being such a mess.

All of y'all that like 'em, more power to you, but I don't like the idea of reading 8 issues of Iron Man and then having to go online and read summaries of 12 other books to find out why everything is now completely different.
>>
>>14167207
There's always the option to read stuff from independent comic book artists or stuff from Image or Dark Horse.

There's also manga, but that'll depend on your taste as well.

The Big Two aren't the only game in the block. Maybe it's time to look for greener(?) pastures.
>>
>>14166872
Bendis, the writer of comic books?
>>
>>14167194

They try non-superhero comics and new unaffiliated heroes that don't crossover much (if at all) on occasion. It doesn't appear to sell much or solve the central issue. Stuff that draws attention the line like constant reboots, crossovers and events does though - because it gets people to look at them at that's really all they want.

I think comics are too expensive, too short, too serialized, too connected and too incestuous for most people to even give them attention. Long gone are the days when kids could pick them up for for chump change off a rack at the supermarket while their parents did the shopping or whatever. They've had to cut the number of pages to keep costs down (going from like 90 in some cases to 30 ish, with much of it advertisments) and while the paper quality has improved, low stock paper probably wouldn't sufficiently cut the cost on it's own.

Add to that that many people won't even give them the time of day because they hold comics in low esteem despite liking the movies and that they already get what they want out of the movies with a lot less expenditure and less of the drawbacks and you're in trouble.

A new solution is needed, and they're circling the drain looking for any sales they can till it comes along.
>>
>>14167231
He writes comics? Bendis?
>>
>>14167223
I read a lot of manga but whenever I bite and read some cape comic I like I wonder why I don't read these more often, and then I come to a crossover and remember "oh yeah that's why".

Like I said, I really liked Matt Fraction's Iron Man run but i find it to have been sullied by having to fit in with Marvel's crossover book.

>>14167232
It's just... this has been the reality for Marvel in what, 20 years? 30 years? It started with Secret Wars but I don't think they did it quite as constantly and annoyingly back then as they do now.

It's like they realized that sugar in tea is a good thing and are now serving people a giant lump of sugar with some tea poured over it, and wondering why they only have a very specific audience left.
>>
>>14167255

People don't buy the tea much when they offer it, so they've no choice but to continue selling sugar. It's not really comic companies or the audience solely at fault, it's both of them plus the market really.
>>
>>14167255
Even in the shitpile that is modern day comics, there are a few gems here and there. I personally found Azzrello/Chiang run of Wonder Woman pretty fun to read, though that isn't really /m/. Fraction's run of Hawkeye was nice as well, though again, not /m/. There was also Morrison's Batman and Robin, but again, not /m/.

Come to think of it, there really isn't much of modern western /m/-comics that isn't Iron Man is there. Much less that is actually decent in quality.

Sorry anon, much as I want an Iron Man story that is decent, fun, self-contained, and full of /m/-fanservice, so long as he has become the poster boy of Marvel, he's gonna get sucked into these crossover events, dumb or otherwise.
>>

Technically secret invasion happened during the previous volume. Five Nightmares was just an Iron Man story that took place before it, during Stark's tenure as Director of S.H I.E.L.D.

Which I kind of miss, actually. Stark as the Director was great. He was actually at his best and he turned S.H.I.E.L.D. into a force that can actually handle the threats it's supposed to without relying on the Avengers 90% of the time.

Pick two.
Because Tony retired due to alcoholism and Rhodey took over as Iron Man way back in the early 90's. He was Iron Man before he was War Machine. iirc Tony wore the black suit first, then later retired due to crippling alcoholism and gave the Iron Man identity to Rhodey. Rhodey later switched to the black armor, then when Tony came out of retirement, Tony went back to the red and gold in Avengers while Rhodey became War Machine in Avengers West Coast.

First you didn't know that the character you're complaining about was race-swapped before you were born, and now you're crying about your racism not being universally accepted, because you can't continue your original argument now but you also can't just shut the hell up after being proven wrong.

On the subject of racism and Iron Man, did anyone think Tony looked pretty hispanic in the cartoon? He looks like a younger, long-haired Richard Boone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBbnT-cIDVM
Like, I wouldn't be surprised if this was Toño Raul Cortez Rigido, creator of Hombre de Hierro. That suit's probably lined with rich, Corinthian leather.
>>
>>14167713

You'd probably want to line it with something soft and luxuriant anyways. Leather isn't what I'd choose, but someone probably would. I always love that big splash page in Ultimates II (I think) of Tony getting put in to the Iron Man suit and drinking as the techs work him in to it, just for the line "It takes an hour (or whatever) to put this thing on, and I fly around shit scared, wouldn't you drink too?"
>>
>>14167731
I find it interesting that Tony can make a super power source magnet to keep his heart from exploding, but an extra filtration system for his liver is right out.

In two or three years, the hot new meme is going to be ridiculing anti-SJWs for being such massive tools the same way atheists are all now m'fedora tippers. It's not about what you believe, it's about how much of an insufferable fuckwit you are while believing it.

Nobody is insulted by being called ignorant, retard, I'm just saying that you're the only one who has used the word.

A single line of greentext isn't a big deal, it's basically admission of defeat. But you responded like a retard and took the bait.

Global Rule 3 refers to racism. So far I don't see any racism in this thread besides >>14167587's pic and he didn't use it in a racist way. The rule isn't there to protect your precious feelings, it's there to stop every board from descending into /pol/ and /b/ discussions 24/7.

He can't. Growing puts a massive strain on him (the suit isn't designed to do that safely yet) so if he shrinks he can't grow again without passing out. He doesn't shrink until he's down for the count anyway

There's definitely a charming flavor of simplicity to it's appearance.

Having just seen the movie about 2 hours ago I really liked it. Better than Winter Soldier and most any Marvel movie I think. The fight scenes are interesting and entertaining - and to allay some people's fears the armors hold up really strong. They're never taken down quickly or easily, nor does it ever feel like they're paper thin given the amount of punishment they both take.

Rhodey is taken out by friendly fire from the Vision thanks to some quick reactions by Falcon, and only after a lengthy fight - while Cap and Bucky have to fight for several minutes together to take Tony down at the end. Even then, it costs Bucky a lot of damage and Tony puts him down for the count. Cap barely beats him, doesn't really damage the armor itself and it takes pretty much everything he has to do it. He's obviously exhausted and on his last legs once it's done. Neither of them even really take out the real villain.

That said, I think I enjoyed the Falcon armor most out of all the tech stuff during the film. Sam is quite inventive in using it and it has quite a bit of functionality, including the previously mentioned drone and using the wings to block gun fire.

The movie has some issues, like using the villains plot to somewhat paper over the moral conflict between Cap and Tony the way the comic itself did or putting the heroes in a bleak and stupid prison for no real reason, but they don't paint anyone on the pro side nearly as bad as the comic did, they do address the moral issues and you really feel the bitterness and division as well as the friendship between Steve and Tony. It's way, way better than the comic it's based on and while I doubt I'll shell out for a second viewing, it's good enough to consider it and I'm looking forward to it's home release to see it again at the very least.
>>
>>14174752
Barbatos? Generally okay, the only real complaint I've seen is about the unarmored waist. There was some mild ribbing over the high heels in the final S1 forms, but that's about it. Most of the issues people have with IBO are about the writing and animation.

I liked that scene too, not so much for the emotion of it since it made Stark feel very petty (which I suppose is appropriate), but because him giving it back in a later film will probably make for a good scene. It sets up a later scene well. I did enjoy how Cap getting up against Tony despite being exhausted will probably echo his stand against Thanos too, since I can't imagine they won't do that.
>>
>>14165071

If he means movie Cap it's also inaccurate because movie Cap is flat out superhuman in strength, speed, endurance and so on ala Ultimate Cap, who he's based on in some respects.

>not so much for the emotion of it since it made Stark feel very petty
I think Stark was entirely justified in saying it. Steve even agreed.

After all, Howard always talked Captain America up to be such a paragon of righteousness, yet Cap knew the truth about Tony's parents' death and kept it for him, and he was using the shield to protect the man that savagely beat his father to death. Even if it wasn't Bucky's fault, in Tony's eyes, Cap betrayed his father and spit on his memory by hiding the truth.

By that point in the film, there was no more petty insults or self righteousness.
Any respect and admiration Stark had for Cap completely disappeared, and he was operating on pure rage and heartbreak at Steve's betrayal. You could actually see Stark's composure and rationality slowly disappearing from his face as he watched the footage.
>>
>>14177640

Well yea, he even say it himself. He doesn't care that Bucky was doing it under mind control, he still did it. Him giving out about the shield is justified, but it's still a rather petty moment from Tony, that seems to be his attempt to take some measure of victory from the moment, or strip Steve of his symbolism in return.
>>
>>14167698
>using racial epithets isn't racism
Denial ain't just a gunpla in Try, bud.
>>
>>14177645
>or strip Steve of his symbolism in return.
You have to understand, in Tony's eyes, Steve did that himself. I didn't really detect any pettiness from Stark in that scene, just heartbreak.
>>
>>14163343
How soon will it be replaced by movie armor?
>>
>>14177777

No idea, but I'd be more curious how long until someone decides it's too advanced and has a story about how advanced technology is evil and a virus tries to take over the armor or it becomes self-aware or some shit, so Tony decides he has to go back to basics and essentially re-makes an armor he had 30 years ago but with some new shapes.
