***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

As would I, Fllay.
New Thunderbolt HGs when?
>1/100 kimaris trooper
>1/144 barbatos all form
Finally i wont bother buying grazes to make the other forms
T-this?
>>14149427
>still no 1/100 Hyakuren
How hard is RG Zeta to transform than the 2.0 MG
>>14149563
You get 3 transforms before it becomes a live grenade
>>14149563
It's a more fragile transformation because of the smaller parts and more fragile inner frame, so it's not as "hard" as it is "stressful"
What's the best Zaku or GM model kit, both in price and content? I'm looking for one with plenty of accessories, like that cracker grenade for Zaku.
O shit, I just ordered a HGUC Jesta and the MG Nu gundam ver ka. I can't wait for them to arive!
Gonna ask this again.
Are there any mobile suits with chests similar to the Gerbera Tetra and Kampfer?
>>14149427
I thought one of those was P-bandai?
>>14149595
Sazabi and nightingale
Hy gogg is also similar but a lot wider
>>14149593
>not getting the MG Jesta instead
Really man, folks here can't recommend it enough.
Shit's one of the most solid MG ever, lots of neat gimmicks, got a pair of neat functional emotion manipulators, very poseable, LED compatible, and at a very reasonable price as well.
Tacticool as fuck. It's currently my only grunt MG.
>>14149660
I don't know anon, The jesta is mostly for more practice and the Nu gundam is my first MG (I got it because I could get it 20 euros cheaper then anywhere else).
I was going to use the Jesta to practice painting on. It seems like a waste to practice on a MG or am I wrong about this?
>>14149660
You reminded me that I had some gunpla leds with batteries, so I checked out the gimmick. It's pretty cool looking but I assume it's something you can't keep on for display for very long.
>>14149565

Call me late to the party, but i just finished this
>>14149427
>1/144 barbatos all form
I guess holding off on it kinda paid off. I know what barbie I'm getting now.
....post Grazes.
Where are some places in America where i can get gunpla?
>>14149815
Other /m/ posters' houses.
>>14149815
go to a good hobby store.
most of them sell kits for not-rape prices. also, the whole 'online is cheaper' thing may or may not exist...i've seen HG's go for 30 online, but 18 in the store.
>>14149815
Local hobby stores, Gundam Planet has a physical location, Amazon ships quick if the kit is fulfilled by them. Barnes and Noble stores are often known to have a gunpla shelf, I've heard IBO kits have been popping up at GameStop stores, and weirdly enough, Walmart's online store stocks gunpla.
>>14149815
see if there's a hobbytown USA near you
>>14149760
Its P-Bandai though mind you.
>>14149879
Of course it is.
Barbatos has 6 "forms" like you putting a different head on a kit is a "custom"
>>14149886
thats literally more work than anything that has been put in a custom in the gundam universe
>>14149427
>P-Bandai all 7 forms of Barbatos
I'm not even mad! I wonder how much it'll cost, and if it comes with 7 Barbie frames, or just one and you "can interchange the pieces on it."
anyone here has AC kits? how good are they? Are they just large hand grenades?
>>14149891
what do you think dummy
is the shitposter gone?
>>14149902
yep
>>14149900
Hey, I wouldn't put it past Bandai to just include 1 Gundam Frame runner with the 6th form feet bits on the side, and just make it a "you can have one of the 6 forms on it at a time."
>>14149427
I may get the P-Bandai Barbatos.
>>14149906
that IS what they are doing of course
Reposting the fact that we NEED GELGOOGS
I have a friend who works at a certain online Gunpla retailer.
He says that the US will be receiving an official direct channel for P-Bandai Gunpla kits soon. He won't tell me when and what products will be offered there yet.
>>14149915
Ah, that's fair. I can't read moonrune, so I can't tell what that article says. At least that makes my collection that much better than this silly P-Bandai set. Seems like a waste to me, to have 1 model that can do 7 different things, when you could have 1 models that do one thing each.
>>14150012
Go fuck yourself, attention whore. Proof or fuck off.
>>14149660
You know what anon, I pulled open my wallet and manned up. I've changed the HGUC to the MG Jesta and bought 2 cheap HGUCs for practicing purpose.

To be fair, I don't even have room now to accommodate this simple set up any more. Ideally you would set it up with secondary lights and reflectors and other stuff you can easily learn from figure/toy lighting tutorials, but this is what I got by with and "making the best out of making do with crap".
Sufficient lights, background, tripod/stable camera.

The "issue" with Samuel is that he does not personally design all of them. A lot of the sheets are either shared from same 3rd party Chinese modelling vendors the same as those on Taobao (evident since you can order same design sheets from him and vendors on taobao), printing them from rather old "vectors" from the modellers' pools, bad vector upscales/live-traced files, or just older lower dpi stock from not-so-recent years. Although his stuff are alright and he DOES custom prints, you can tell his stuff are from left and right when even his sheet thickness/colour vary from one sheet to another.
>>14150420
I'd say what you have set up is a lot better than my Ikea colony laser with tracing paper as diffuser.
>>14150432
I think for the black background I need more distance to the background like your desk setup so that was helpful, I catch too much light reflecting off of the black I was using. Thanks for the help!
>>14150432
at 1/144 scale the vector scaling issues are annoying as hell. Not to mention he can't replicate official bandai patterns and sheets.
are there any better alternatives? I'm lucky I used to work at a hobby shop and snatched up a lot of bandai shit
Zaku I a best
>>14150440
The paper that I was using back then was actually quite nice paper stock.I stole it with permission from my uni studio. I asked for some shitty A3 size paper and my lecturer just told me to take this not knowing whose it was, which was A0 sized. It was what you can say is maybe 80% matte but with very little grain as compared to normal art-store rough black paper, so couple that with some distance the paper looked silky smooth.
If you're with some institutes or maybe even as a potential customer, it may be worth asking for paper stock samples delivered to you from papersmiths or similar online store and just use those as backdrop, given they give you a nice enough size.

Not even mad since the Robot Damashii is great looking, just slightly disappointed I was lied to.
I couldn't see any panel lining differences between the HG and 1/100.
Maybe the final product will be slightly improved?

>>14151107
it really doesn't need more surface """""""detail""""""

>>14151389
>>14151395
I'm not talking about the vent, I mean filling in the underskirt. I want my gunpla to be modest
I'm not satisfied but I already stripped the paint twice. This will have to do. Hopefully the detailing makes it look less ugly.
>>14151402
The first image uses plaplate (and probably putty for the gaps), the second uses putty.
>>14151415
ty. i gotta try and learn how to use those.
What's a good resin kit for beginners?
>>14151465
Something with only a few parts. Maybe a conversion kit instead of a straight resin build.
>>14151389
it's even easier than you think!!!! :^)
>>14151465
Not so much what's a good kit as is what's a good recaster. I'd recommend you avoid e2046 like the plague.
Also, don't buy 1/144 just because you think the small size makes it easier. Most resin kits tend to be very partsy, and 1/144's are RG-levels of complexity. Try to grab something 1/100.
>>14151764
Can you play with Resin kits like you do with HG or MG or RG kits
>>14151107
1/100 Graze added more detail that really could have been on the 1/144 for the sake of an upgrade, but the Kimaris Trooper was already covered in detail to start with so there's no particular improvement there.
A lack of panel lines on a HG tends to be a deliberate choice rather than a restriction.
>>14151800
Nope. Most are fixed pose, and the ones that do pose are fiddly as hell. Plus, none of them come painted, so you have a lot of work to do.
Is the MG Tallgeese any good?

Finally finished my three cold district GM's it was certainly an odd build to say the least Not really happy with the weapons but at the same time I enjoyed to design choices with the arms
>>14152157
Fuck. I didn't think Bandai could produce my dream model, but they gone and ver. ka'd the FAG.
I am beyond happy.
So finally got a few announcements for kits that lead into months after June, mostly p bandai, mg thunder bolts and a origin msd kit. Do you guys think theyll slowly trickle the rest of the upcoming announcements for summer or will they hold off til the may hobby show?
I mean it was like we got a whirlwind of teases and announcements up til the june releases with few held back to not spoil ibo but this felt like a huge dry spell. It feels like bandai is taking longer to make new molds and doing everything in their power to just make mgs with existing frames.
>>14152176

>>14151857
>Plus, none of them come painted, so you have a lot of work to do.
SOME are, molded in color that is. Volk's Charagumin line comes to mind. But obviously, those cost a lot more than a recast, and unlike plastic, resin surfaces don't look very good without paint..
>>14152157
It only looks marginally better than the HG. Think it'll have enough NO STEP to make up for that?
About to order 2 MGs: Zeta Plus and Sword Impulse.
Also,black markers.

You are master class. That's some fancy shit right there.
>>14152737
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.
Guys, I'm just looking for some shop talk-ish consideration here.
My scenario is that I haven't built any gunpla since the HG Gelgoog Cannon was new, and now I got a cheapo RX-78-2 Revive off of Amazon.
I'm loving how articulate it seems to be, but I notice that the new kits (after looking at more new model manuals on Hobbysearch) have a fair amount of plastic-on-plastic joints?
In the old days, the wrists and elbows and knees were largely plastic-male-to-polycap-female joints; the new kits use normal(?) plastic in those same areas rather than polycap hinges.
I'm particularly worried in the elbows and wrists. Will the plastic there begin to wear out with more and more posing? Or is the new models' plastic of vaguely polycap-esque plastic that is more durable?
>>14153479
No. They don't use plastic on plastic. They've just gotten a LOT better about hiding the polycaps.
Engineering for these kits has come a long way since you left the game. ESPECIALLY when it comes to the RX-78 2. Scoop that motherfucker up and get your ass into 2016.
>>14153587
So the grey runner is just some sort of more-rigid polycap?
>>14153618
The dark grey runner is much less rigid than the other ones. I'm not 100% sure what it's made of, but it has enough give to be like a polycap, but at the same time is solid enough to be a hard plastic.
>>14153618
It's a ps joint made of slightly softer/more rubbery plastic than the styrene used on the armor parts. It holds up decently well so far.
>>14153462
>not enough room for travel in the receiver
>>14152720
What? It's not bad.
I'm planning on a Zero custom.
The base suit I am thinking about is the Mack Knife because it is so slender like Zero.
But its arms and legs are too weird. The head is nice though. What are some good arms and legs?
>>14153982
g-arcane's
>>14153462
>>14153912
The real problems I'm still thinking about fixing are problems with the original design.
The ejection port isn't big enough to make sense for both magazine sizes; the casings from the rounds in the (strangely wider) SMG mag that I've put on the bottom for the DMR would be longer than the ejection port. I think I will expand the port and then add a plate to the internals of the smaller magazine receiver piece that covers the rear section of the hole back to original size. That way the port size is correct for whichever size magazine is attached.
The other issue is the lack of a charging handle, I could either add one where the circle is now or relocate it. I think I will relocate it like in pic because it is a superior design that lets you keep the gun closer to the firing position and still use the handle, With things like the groza you need to kind of turn the gun sideways so your left hand can reach the handle which is even more awkward when the action is behind the grip.
>>14154037
Like you can see here he would have to hold the gun sideways and do this kind of armpit scratch motion to reach that circle and pull it back with his left hand
>>14153982
Don't forget, Nobel Gundam is getting a restock. Toss in it's hair.
>>14153982
>>14154048
Yeah the hair from the Berserker version of Nobel would be perfect
>>14154048
>>14154057
If you're willing to paint it, you can also use Denial's hair. And that one is more widely available.
>>14154071
somehow I totally forgot that existed, that would be good too
>>14154057
Oh I wasn't thinking Berserker. That'd be cool too.
>>14154071
Oh yea, I forgot it has hair.
Gunpla is just subarashii
Barbatos-fag here, and here's what I've finished so far. Gonna go back on 4th and 6th forms to panel line the legs and feet since I really like how it turned out on 2nd form. As for the Ritters, those are top coated and done, and looking fabulous behind my Barbies. What do you guys think?
>>14154162
look at you havin fun
>>14154162
Going to do any customization on any of them? Beyond what you did with the shoulder pauldrons on the Ritter grunts, of course
>>14154179
I mean he just topcoated them, so probably not right
>>14150615
It is more of a salute than anything
>>14153154
I had to get some cement to hold the backpack/wing unit on. The tiniest bit of movement would cause it to fall off. That is my only real complaint on it.
>>14154179
>>14154189
I'm not sure. I have this autistic thing about having to make them as screen accurate as possible>inb4 QUALITYsince that's how I am with my cosplay, but the ritters could use some heraldry or something. I do have a Schwalbe Graze that I had to steal the grabby claw and thigh boosters off of for 5th Form (which I am gonna work on next) so I might try my hand at making a custom Graze with that, since, again, screen accuracy autism. For now, I'm just trying to make them look like the cartoon, since I really like the IBO kits.
>>14153151
Agreed. They were terrible. The wings were a solid piece rather than the 10+ they are now, the color separation was god awful and they needed a lot of painting to look nice
>>14154145
>What are you doing Freedom?
>Thinking of Justice
>>14153912
Just a /k/ moment, but look at the bolt in his model. It's a conventional rear-heavy bolt. However for the mag size and bolt, it'd need at least as-much again the bolt length of travel for the receiver to work (unless it's telescoping, and from the picture doesn't seem to be).
Koborov's magic bullpoop most likely has a (ridiculously unconventional) telescoping bolt of some sort (that really nobody's ever seen outside of the museum in Russia where it's held).
>>14150927
I don't hate mine, what's so awful about building it?
>>14154037
I think the port size for what it is is already bretty gud. You could fluff it as the rounds being semi-caseless and/or telescoping rounds (or a freakishly long OAL due to a horsecock-length pill in a tiny casing, like that soviet underwater harpoon gun).
As for the charging handle, it makes sense. However I think you can keep the charging handle where it is. I would just add a nub in the center so that there's something for the MS to "pull."
I do like your idea of moving it to the "gas tube" area. I think you could keep both and pretend the left-side handle is non-reciprocating, and the right one is reciprocating+forward assist.

In theory, it has some sense in-setting. Beam Spray Guns have a short "focusing coil" and a shorter length of I-field stabilization of the beam from the tiny barrel. It acts more like a shotgun (that's shaped like a pistol); reasonable spread out to medium-short distances, and extremely powerful up close (akin to normal shotguns per se, which is like being shot 6 or so times with a pistol caliber depending on the shot gauge and spread).
Conversely, normal beam rifles have a longer distance of I-field stabilization and hold the resulting beam coherent for longer shot distances before it dissipates into its constituent mega-particles.
A lot of this is overturned with Zeta's crazy MS (like the Doven Wolf's ridiculous chest mega-particle guns, or the Zaku 3's silly skirt beam guns), but the in-setting fluff is at least reasonable.

I'm in regina saskatchewan anon. Fan expo here is pretty small. Here's a pic of my find
>>14154864
Im excited but waiting for the reviews when it releases. In the meantime I just ordered the little no scale planemode model kit. It looks nice even if its a sticker fest.

>>14154864
Yes, I'm on a VF buying spree right now, All of the Alto and Ozma VF-25 plus the VF-27 is getting reissues in June, amiami and 1999 have preorders up.
>>14155050
I'm just really disappointed they never released the VF-29 in 1/72 plamo form.
>>14155062
I kinda wouldnt mind a parts forming vf in around the size of 1/144 gundam. I know its not a consistent scale its just I like smaller models most of the time.
fabbgeese update. Fuck this paint, I cant get a consistent coat worth a fuck. I had to strip both forearms down twice cause it kept pooling on either end of the part and drying in a big glob. I can now see why spray guns are so nice. It would have been awesome if I could have thinned this down. And i'm also out of paint, I need to get more. I did take some transparent paint to the little clear plastic "eyes" part. I really liked how that came out. All in all so far it's turning out nice. Not as good as I would like, but given my current setup/skills, I'm happy with it so far.
>>14153333
That's my SDGO paint job for the Turn-A.

>>14155097
did you warm your cans?
Dear /m/ can you help with a color scheme... I was planning going full Garo and so going gold but it seem a bit too much
>>14155107
its been pretty warm around here. I think the cans were fine. Its probably mostly to do with my shit level of paint skills. Its a florescent paint. Its consistantcy/texture just seems really different from everything else ive used before. I never ran into thees issues when i did my zaku and I just used basic enamels and matallics on it.
>>14155120
You warm the cans up in very warm water to raise the pressure inside the can and get the paint as consistent as possible. It helps with your spray quality (as much as that's possible with cans)
>>14155097
Did you hold down the spray button for long time
What's a good unique and fun MG to build?
I have:
Turn A
00 Qan[T]
Buster gundam
Hi Nu ver Ka
Nu ver Ka
>>14155242
do the 00 because your post rolled a 2, have a nice day
>>14155099
That's just the default colors though?
>>14155242
they're all bredi gud and unique in their own way nigga.
I'd say you should build the Nu now and leave the hi-nu for last. it's got the best Gundam frame, so you'll enjoy assembling the hi-nu more if the frame doesn't feel repetitive
>>14155112
I say to go for a dark grey base with either light blue or light red highlights. What kit are those legs from? They look pretty nice.
>>14155242
00Q. It's really fun to build and pose.
>>14155247
>>14155275
>>14155278
Oh, I mean I already have those built.
What are some good MGs that are not on this list?
>>14155297
you want unique?
go for the guntank, ball or turn x
>>14155297
Ahhh. Go for the MG Gundam X, or the Duel Gundam to go with the Buster.
>>14155242
>>14155297
The Sinanju and the Stein are both fantastic builds and share some framework with the Nu so they are safe bets and would be treading familiar ground for you.
Turn X is probably the most unique MG currently made, and would complement your Turn A
Likewise, Sazabi ver Ka to go with the Nu. Expensive though.
Can't go wrong with a Tallgeese
Jesta is fun and fairly easy to customize
Ex-S is one of a kind but takes up a lot of space and money.
And a personal favorite of mine - Shin Musha Gundam. Definitely an eye catcher
I'm not sure what color to do the feet for the fabgeese. I was thinking a bright red, but i think that would clash with the pink to much. suggestions?
>>14155297
The RX-78-02 The Origin and Hyaku Shiki 2.0 released last year have some really impressive engineering going on.
They're worth it for the build process alone.
>>14155374

>>14155397
purple all the way
>>14155397

I would do them gold but I'm not sure you have the equipment to really make the gold shine nicely

Prolly wont do red/black, but up to the knee seems like it would seem pretty cool for the boots idea.
>>14155427

Bandai should just have Petitguys as a separate product.
Am I correct in assuming the MG 2.0 is the best currently available Zeta Gundam?
>>14157350
Yes
>>14157350
Best one is probably the PG. I've heard the MG 2.0 has trouble standing on its own without the joints wanting to transform, and the RG is best if transformed only once or twice.
>>14157024
Oh, they're fine. Don't be a bitch.

Oh they do not. These do. You're complaining abut nothing.
If there's a problem, it's the shoddy seam filling on the rifle, and the obvious lack of forethought regarding the peg that attaches said rifle to the leg armor. Everything else is more or less fine. Those old kits suck, and they hardly ever wind up looking much better than this.

My gf wants to learn to build with something easy and small so I got her a petitgguy, and when she thinks she's ready, I have a wing fenice to surprise her with, since that's her favorite suit so far.
Me, I'm waiting for my HGUC F91 to come in the mail so I can attack it with mint bronze paint and try my best to paint it decentlythe last time I painted a model I was trying to use a gundam marker just for a very small detail and it splurged out of it harder than a bodybuilder who hasn't fapped for weeks and it got everywhere
bluefin giving a scoop on the next expo
Well, I just built my first Gunpla.
Didn't make any mistakes, but I know the HG RX-78 Revive is easy mode. Still, I'm a little proud.
I've got the F91 and D-Hell Custom waiting to be put together, though. So, I think this was good practice.
Definitely going to go with Master or Perfect Grade next time.
>>14159376
>Derringer
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Hey guys I've got peices of the real grade strike freedom namely one beam saber blade but no saber to go with it. can I Drill out my standard GM's Beam saber and pop that into it maybe glue it if need be I don't have any paints atm so I can't just paint the GM's Saber Pink
>>14159392
>Definitely going to go with Master or Perfect Grade next time.
the 1/100 Barbatos is just about MG detail and is really cheap.
and PGs are expensive as fuck.
>>14159392
>Perfect Grade next time.
whoa, hold on there partner, you may want more practice before handling one of those, its also pretty expensive too.
just keep practicing on HG's and get some MG's when you get comfortable
>>14159498
>>14159508
Well, I'd definitely give MG a shot before PG, obviously. I'm going to build the other two models this week, and if they don't give me any trouble, I'll try out an MG. I don't want to get ahead of myself, though; so, I might change my mind.
It'll be a while before I try my hand at one of the PG models, but it's really tempting. The HG is quite small, and took no time to put together. It was a lot of fun to put together. I had Char's Counterattack on in the background, and it really set the mood.
>>14159555
what MG are you thinking about tackling?
obviously, some MG's are easier then others.
just a side note, most transforming MS are really finicky to build and pose, read the guide for some good beginner MG's
>>14159183
Just finished painting this today. Very pleased.
So this IS getting a 1/100 in August right
>>14159674
I haven't decided yet, but either something from UC or Wing. The guide recommends a lot of SEED models, but I've never seen it; I usually don't buy merchandise of things I won't immediately recognize.
I've had an eye on pic related. It doesn't look too complicated, but I guess it doesn't look simple, either.

The handgun is a 1/12 scale P226 from the Little Armory line, but I'm planning to build a modern urban combat diorama around it with 1/144 infantry and armor, hence the real-style pistol as opposed to a beam weapon.
