Perhaps the subbed version will be out by the time I finish watching all 12 episodes of Katanagari, which are 50 minutes per episode. That should take me a day or two at most. If nobody does a direct translation from Japanese to English by then, I'm sure someone will have done a Spanish to English translation at least. I'm happy as long as I can get the general idea of what the characters are saying. At this point I wouldn't mind even if they translated it using Google Translate.

I am digging it. Samurai Guy makes it a fun watch.

The fight in the second episode was fucking solid and I'm really loving the protagonist. We have a setting building up here and some decent character establishment.

Depending on how things go with this show it has the potential already to become a pretty solid show provided they don't suddenly screw up. Given there kinda lacklustre showing of new mecha shows in the last few years this is a pretty welcome change.

Everyone's talking about the CG, but what about the backgrounds? I think it's a step up from your average mecha and makes a big difference. I was nervous about CGI PA Works mecha, but they are playing to their strengths, which is very smart.

So many shows skimp on doing interesting shit because they have a pretty background to look at, and most of the time now it's not even a particularly inventive background that sells the futuristic or exotic location or was artistically demanding to create; they send a guy out with a camera to take pictures of locations around town and then paint over it on a computer and add a little robot trash can in the corner. And that asshole gets paid bajillions because THE FUCKING BACKGROUND is what people notice. It's the background! The word has a certain meaning for a REASON!

The guy doesn't say plot. He says story. "Person from the past wakes up in the future" isn't a story, it's something of a plot device or point like you said. It allows for the story and a wider range of things to happen.
The guy explicitly says story, so that's how I'll address his point even if you think he meant something else.
And Kennosuke waking up in the future after having been asleep for 450 years is certainly not the story of the anime. Part of the plot, yes, but not the story.

It's like giving the MC something like amnesia, special powers or a lack thereof, having him transported to a fantasy world from the real world, sending him to a high school for people with special abilities, girl falls out of sky into his lap, him finding and accidentally getting into and controlling a giant robot/inheriting one from his parents. It allows for the story to happen, but it isn't the story.

Overused rather than generic would be the better term, especially for the "transported to a fantasy world" and "accidentally controlling a robot" plot points. Though personally I don't think "person from the past wakes up in the future" is overused at all, especially compared to the aforementioned two.

This anime has been fun, the characters aside from teh Samurai aren't all that serious and are fun to watch, hope it keeps up like this

If Crunchyroll or Daisuki was streaming this and HorribleSubs ripped either one of them, we'd probably not be complaining about liberal translating, or complaining much at all. Most of us are probably used to both services' rather literal but inoffensive and very neutral translations. We get what we come for most of the time - a direct translation, and that's it.

So far its pretty good. Not brilliant or anything like some /m/en here claim, but interesting enough to keep watching. I wonder where the tone of the show is going to go, if it'll stay mostly comic, get far more serious, or wobble in-between the two as it pleases.

I would love to see how super samurai adapts to the world he's now in while maintaining his honorable stance due to star-struck loli.
Maybe he gets to travel around the world hunting the other boss mechas.
By then, his spirit is re-ignited and becomes a super samurai god.

So do you think the grey bit on the kuromukuros head is some kind of repair job in show or just a design choice ? There's silhouettes of similar looking mechs in the op that look more symmetrical. Maybe it's from damage they inflicted trying capture it. Or slay it seeing as it's supposed to be a demon and they have basically named it black corpse. No idea how they would have been able to actually repair it back then though. Maybe there was a deserter. Maybe it was the princess?

I find it hard to get excited about the show when the main character is advertised extensively in the OP and shit wearing a cut up school uniform and so the show will probably end up spending a good bit of time there going through all the usual cliches. The fact it already has a genius loli doesn't help. The first few episodes were decent but that bit hangs like a pall over the whole thing and kills any excitement I can muster.

Also it's probably going to be revealed at some point but it's interesting how Kennosuke was taken aback by the state of Uma, the last thing he remembered it shattered and the princess was abducted/ozoned.

And if you look at his dream sequence there's that shot of the suit glowing with the sword in it, along with the huge scars on his chest and back it make me think that the suit after it lost the princess and he got impales went into self repair not just for itself but for him too, would explain all that goo that rushed out, japanese bacta fluid of some sort.

Eh, they actually put a twist into it in Argevollen that neatly folded into themes that were repeated with other characters in the show.

Up to now, Yukina's main use seems to be to ground that delish brown samurai outside of the robot by being a waifu with a laifu. The other robot's team that had the navigator twice stop the pilot from killing himself while riding one obviously is meant to be their contrasting couple.

I think this show was made for chicks. Too much of it seems set up to pander to the female interest.

Take the female lead: she's the equivelant of the harem MC. Bland and easy to self-insert as; pretty much your standard teenage girl who does your standard teenage girl things, like not knowing what you want to do and hating your mum.

Then look at the male lead. He's a standard female romance character: handsome and dangerous -- but not dangerous to the MC -- and a little bit dismissive. Plus her friends comment about how hot he is while she doesn't really think so and there's a small child she's involved with who likes him a lot. Standard beats.

I like this show, but at the same time, I don't really feel like its target audience while watching.
