HeatMetal is doing a ground-up re-translation, but it's only at episode 23 (been there since November or so).

That being said, I managed through it with not that many difficulties. The translation is nowhere near as bad as it was in Den-O, and the special effects can mainly be ignored (monsters don't talk, so they're limited to the Visor and Mirror World talk).

If you want a consistent experience then it's probably better to wait, especially if you prefer the quality of the BunnyHat raws.

The thing that I think they were originally going for with Tendou, at least at first, is that Tendou himself is not technically the hero. He makes others into heroes.

Hear me out on this. Tendou may be great at everything and super awesome the best all the time, but despite being the star of the show and the main rider, his true purpose was to be the spark that motivates others to better themselves. Tsurugi, Kagami, Daisuke, everyone who interacted with Tendou on a regular basis eventually had their lives changed drastically, but ultimately changed for the better, often as a direct result of the relationship with Tendou. Granted, they didn't all end happily, but they all walked away better, more fulfilled individuals. Kagami eventually realized his own strength and potential and became Gatack, Tsurugi broadened his at the time limited world view and came to peace with his tragic past, even the Hopper Brothers, who's lives were seemingly ruined by Tendou, found true friendship in each other and freedom from their shady leaders at Zect.

All of this, while ultimately Tendou himself changed very little, if at all. Maybe they lost sight of this aspect of him a bit throughout the show, but that's the real truth of why Tendou is the way he is. He doesn't walk the path of heaven, he guides others down that path.

I'd add that the constant comparisons to the sun he makes puts weight on The Sun tarot, which represents personal truth, charisma, success, and natural solutions. His character has a disdain of superficiality or complications and a lot of his speech is to the point past reciting Grandma's sayings. His success is frequently if not solely to benefit others rather than himself (trying to get that lottery coupon as an example of when he had no luck) and his relationship with Kagami was built on Tendou making him give his own answers to things. As Kabuto, his success and failure were based on his confidence, Hyper Zecter appeared to him because he was certain of himself.

As a character, he was supposed to show the strength of knowing who you are and it worked its way into others.

Funny you say that because I just recently made this helmet for art practice using that as a "prompt".

My thought process was based on a hypothetical American company wanting to introduce Kamen Rider as an "grown up" series. To differentiate it from current capeshit, I really believe they'd just make a Shin/The First love baby with a more ragged, monster man than buff action man. Also I'd think they would mix all of Showa into a single Multi-Rider show with a few seasons because they think Americans would find the separate shows monotonous, but that is beside the point.

So with that, I just put Skullman, Rider 3, the First suit, and the new suit in a blender to get a good balance between monster and Rider 1. Red eyes because pink would be a no go. Red Rider 3-like scars to vaguely resemble exposed flesh up the "horror". Kept the blue in spite of them probably demanding green because I wanted to. Think I went too light on it, but it works well with the emphasized skull motif. Gives him a zombie/dead man look.

So yeah. This was quite a fun experiment. Might do a body.
