Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

I can't afford all the shit for airbrushing so I'm handpainting with water-based acrylics, and I've bought this for priming since I can't find spray cans anywhere (I'm from some tiny country in south america and it's quite hard to find anything here)
But I've got no idea how to even use it, am I supposed to thin it? If I add even a few drops of water it just stops sticking to the plastic and it's like painting with water, but if I use it unthinned it gets these really noticeable brush strokes and the surface feels really uneven

I did not. I am going to consider that for future projects though, thank you. The beam rifle eyes are a mix of Testors red(7 drops) and Testors fluorescent pink(3 drops) into a thimble full of enamel thinner, masking and about 10 thin coats with my airbrush.

When you paint with cans do you warm them up first? I've found better results after giving the cans a nice hot water bath. Higher can pressure and smoother paint application make things go so much better.
Then I got an airbrush, still haven't figured out the best way to warm the paint and paint with it right away though.

This is what comes with the kit; I haven't tried them out yet since I'm waiting until I'm done with everything else.

I can read some moon so I can try to help you out: Hontai Orange-45%Orange, 44%Yellow/Orange, 9% Dark Earth(???), 2% Shine Red. Hontai White-99% White, 1% Black. For the navy looking color it is-90% Midnight Blue, and 10% White. Light Grey-100% Neutral Grey. Lastly, for the darker grey, 60% Black and 40% White. If you mean color applications, then there are really none required if you use the waterslides. If you want show accuracy then some grey on the head will be required, which I will do in the future.

No lining or anything until I complete the entire kit, but I did do some seam welding considering that the limbs have horrible seams. The articulation is pretty good besides the arms, and I enjoyed building it.

Honestly I didn't. I'd only seen it from afar and didn't watch Seed. Looking at it more closely on the box and in the manual it's actually growing on me. The design isn't bad at all and the only real oddity is the tall head spire, but that's easily overlooked because of the function inherent in the design.
That said I'm going to build it. I like RG's, maybe I'll paint it to look like something driven by the Titans.

it was a nice quick build, the downside are that the feet dont stand fully flat due to limitations of motion on the bottom joints, and the back weapon mount holes are sometimes hit or miss with early koto kits. all in all def worth the 40 i threw at it. the plastic is pretty much the 3 colors you see there in the kit, dark blue, a purplish, and silver/grey. thats the same with the whole early crest line thought, the middleweight and the quad. i have a shitty image of my quad, which was a relatively early build for me. the uno cards are there to be a stand for the unit, as all 4 legs are really mobile and i wanted to keep it in a neat angled pose

I'm not >>13910074 but I have a HG The O. It's a really awesome kit, and is really well done with nice articulation for when it was released. This was actually my first kit I built back in 2007 after taking years off from building gunpla so it has a special place in my heart. I've been meaning to go back and do some touch ups and paint detailing on it for a while since my level of skill has increased since I built it but I keep putting it off because I have a few other projects I've been working on. I think I got mine for around $40 but I'm pretty sure I saw it on amazon the other day for about $30. If you are a fan of the design, it's definitely worth picking up imo.

Allot can use the new revive frames and molds, some definitely be pbandai but I hope they do add some new units for more combat, some times feels like to much dialog. There could be some combat roles filled with Jegan like a sniper custom or cannon unit. Where as sleeves and the remnants still had that poll of units people would love to see take up arms to help. Kampfer was on it, so seeing a sleeves variant or remnants use it be cool. But two other suits that be great to see animated and get models are gyan high mobility and action zaku. Gyan definitely feels like a sleeves unit while action zaku feels vary much like a remnants.

its the zaku/rick dom prototype used in the opening of 08th ms team, it kicked the ass of some gm type e which are basically prototypes in themselves. Those plus ground gm data are incorporated in the normal gm.

But anyway the team is all but whipped out save for one person, I cant remember if the zeon pilot was alone or just more experienced or the mobility kicked their ass but it ended up getting defeated by a ball k type, it has a grapple hooke, quad manipulators and dual machine guns instead of a cannon so it was vastly underpowered yet turned the battle. The zeon suit even though wrapped up in grappling wire was crushing the arms of the ball.

Guntanks existed pre-side 3 becoming independent. Guncannon was developed in response to the zaku that the EF knew Zeon was developing. And it sucked balls, a dozen of them got wiped out by 3 zaku I and Ral's custom prototype during an attempt to acquire professor minovsky. AE meddled hard in its development and Tem Ray uses this as leverage during his negotiations for Project V to keep them out of the developing of the gundam.

It makes sense though, guntank is literally like the next step in construction and demoliton but re purposed for war like tractor treads for the first tanks. Be it their purpose before or not, just like the mobile worker and ball. A guntank is like a bulldozer or scoop with two armatures for work, crowd control makes some sense, its big its imposing it take anti tank weapons or more to halt let alone destroy it. It has height advantage, can hold bigger guns etc.

I honestly dont think the federation considered them to be the next step in evolution of warfare because saberfish and the such still dominated the skies and without interference any payload could rival something like a guntank. Its also probably why they had so many normal tanks and such in use, less expensive, less materials able to go in tighter areas, probably less training but still had their uses for ground control. Space was just ship to ship with dogfights.

Zeon saw the potential, it could rival but not surpass their fleets, if they were going to fight on earth their biggest threat was guntank even with minosky particles but the mobile worker showed potential. After evolving it, making it self sustained, space worthy and more streamlined they had a ship sinking, weapon far greater in maneuverability, and tactics making use of the particles to seriously handicap the advantages that could have made mobile suits seem less effective.

Stat-wise, the Dobergun is solid round only.
When Leos fire the Dobergun, it's solid round.
When the Tallgeese fires the Dobergun, usually it's solid round.
There are a number of times where Tallgeese fires a high powered beam from the gun.

Then, we get random references now and again. For example:
In most games where Tallgeese appears, the Dobergun fires solid rounds. There are a couple games where it can also shoot a beam, just because.

That's kind of something I noticed with the weaponry as well. The beam rifles used by Guncannon and the Gundam are basically mega particle cannons ripped off another ship and made usable by a mobile suit, which makes Gundam and Guncannon have the strength of a larger vehicle while having the dexterity and mobility of a smaller unit. Amuro's beam rifle tears through Zeon suits like a hot knife through butter, and later suits and armors like the Big Zam and the Zeong have roughly the same presence on the battlefield with similar weaponry.

Watching later series and seeing absolutely everything and their mother have beam rifles really scales down on the impact they once had.

I've always seen it as an animation error. I thought Tallgeese I and II had projectile type Dobergun's and III had that crazy destroy a Zeon style asteroid base in one shot mega beam cannon.

Maybe I'm wrong about II, but I'm pretty sure I was always meant to be projectile and just a tuned up version of what the Leo's have.

Why didn't they just make more Zaku snipers and Dom's with Musai-mega-particle-bazookas to compete with hilariously strong GM beam spray guns?

I'm half convinced it's because the Zeon commanders were all a bunch of backstabbing idiots. Char backstabbed Garma, M'Quve backstabbed Ramba Ral, and so on. Everyone wanted to be the one to best the undefeated White Base in head to head combat and prove their worth to Degwin Zabi, while the Feds just blasted their asses back to Side 3 with superior firepower. This general thread series makes me nervous.

I've been building HG kits for like a decade now, being envious of people who paint and make their gunpla look nice while I just played around with them after just cutting them off the sprues and snapfitting them together.

Am I having fun wrongly? There are enough people in these threads going KNUBS SCRUB that I'm legit asking.

I mean, I hate looking at the knubs as much as the next guy, but sanding them away sounds like an ass (I do have fine grit sandpaper; it's the loss in time that I'm iffy about). Is that how most people do it?

since all of the RGs other than 00 Raiser sucks, what should I buy? Can't decide between HG Gundam Astraea or HGUC Nu Gundam

It's apart of the hobby. For some of us it's a pain, for others its cathartic, but for all of us it's something that needs to be done if we want to improve. Snapfag doesn't believe that and is proud of his laziness and openly gloats about it, while posting shitty images of gunpla and then flooding the thread when he doesn't get any attention.
It's okay if you just snapfit your gunpla, but if you ever want to get deeper into the hobby, or have someone else appreciate them, then sanding and panel-lining is just the barest of minimums.

Well, I guess the lining on the Origin kits really make them pop (absolutely gorgeous thigh armor). I guess I'll continue to do that at least. Next kit I feel up to, I'll bother sanding and doing it nice.

Enjoy your gunpla however you want. People here just don't like others posting their snapfitted builds because it's about as minimal effort possible for a kit and we like to see people trying to improve. I've got a few snapfitted HGs that I don't post here simply because I halfassed them, but I still like to pose them and plan to go back and fix them up eventually.

And yeah, sanding takes a lot of time, which is why people encourage taking out most of the nubs with xacto knives and nippers before starting to sand. Prize-winning gunpla take time and patience, but are almost always worth it.

Look through the two guides in the OP, then Layman's guide, and check out anything else that might interest you. They're good resources.

Yeah, thanks for the answers. I didn't know if I was in some sort of weird ultrapleb tier for snapfitting and partial lining (because my thruster panel lining looks like ass) below some sort of imaginary pleb tier, so I was probing for what "most" people do.

I do love gunpla models though, so I guess I might as well explore the extra mile.

Show them a picture of the hand-wrist connections and that stupid-ass ridge on the lower end of the forearm.

It irks me to no end that if you put any accessories into the hands, there is no way they sit flush because there's always a bit that pokes into the forearm ridge and pushes/pulls the entire hand out of the wrist polycap.
Shield is fine though, since it forces the left hand into it's natural wrist position.

I'm just getting back into the hobby. I'm 26 now (old I know) and haven't done this since I was knee-high to a boll weevil (Wing was playing on Toonami). My old kits are all long gone or buried in my parent's garage, but looking at what people do around here I'd be ashamed of the nubs I left.

Starting up again now I got an HG kit I thought looked cool, a set of clippers, set of Tamiya sandpaper (cheap on amazon), found my old exacto knife, and am planning to get some markers for panels.

I'm having a blast so far. The sanding is relaxing. I put something mindless on Netflix or throw a book on tape on and just sink into it like an old man in a warm bath.

Just have fun the way you want. I suggest giving more advanced techniques a try. It's fun to have a goal. I hope in a few kits I'll be confident enough to paint because I have project ideas I'd love to get into.
