Come up for a reason why UX sold consistently during it's lifetime rather than only in the first two weeks.

Hard Mode : Don't it it was because it was just a really good SRW that sold well by word of mouth

Hey, Matt, finally rolled it. Keep in mind it needed an upgrade to have Fire Crasher available.
>>

Seems you got Mechander too. And is that Great Might Gaine PM and J-Decker as well? Man, you're just pulling all the fucking Braves.
>>

First 3DS SRW?
>>
>>13685396

It can't be explained. Games simply don't do that in Japan.
>>
>>13685396
Clearly it was the work of an Outer God.
>>
>>13685443
Yeah, I'm testing the waters of how much the game can handle by upping the Gatcha limit, with liberal use of the deposit boxes. Probably close to the 250 limit I've set. (Interestingly, you still get bonus points for reaching certain thresholds even after editing the limit)

Funny thing about the Braves, I'm now learning just how many components go into these dang things. I had to sit through three combination sequences for Might Gaine alone once I nabbed the last piece.

(Also, another tidbit, you can Hammer Connect Goldymarg to GaoGaiGar and change his stats and moves a little, including giving him the Goldion Magnum attack. He has the Hammer attack even without the Hammer Connect, though.)
>>
Is the Alie Chevalier worth upgrading in 2ndOG if I plan to get Forte Gigas?

Also, I assume upgrades to Garmied carry over to the Blaze, right? Is it worth dumping money into?
>>
>>13685462
That might have been it.

Besides SEED Destiny and Macross Frontier, UX did have a lot of uncommon series in it,

It not only utilized new material but utilized it well.
>>
>>13685465
>I had to sit through three combination sequences for Might Gaine alone once I nabbed the last piece.

Gaine + the jet thing + Locomoraizer for Might Gaine, Might Kaiser carries all of its components on its own figure but they still have to combine up, Might Gaine + Might Kaiser = Great Might Gaine, Great Might Gaine + Might Gunner = Great Might Gaine Perfect Mode, Great Might Gaine Perfect Mode + Battle Bomber + Guard Diver = JOINTO DORAGON FIYAAAAAA

>you can Hammer Connect Goldymarg to GaoGaiGar and change his stats and moves a little, including giving him the Goldion Magnum attack. He has the Hammer attack even without the Hammer Connect, though.

Does it lose Broken Magnum/Phantom? Either way though, that's pretty neat.

Hey, UX question: Tobikage can show up in any scenario before you obtain him as a unit except 4, right?

I figure that should be noted on the Character Acquisition Timeline.
>>
>>13685485
You've not disproven the point.

The fact that Tobikage will murder Ranka if you give him the chance has only made people more fond of the game.

Mist/Van/Kira.

Mist and Kira both have insanely good MAPs (Kira has the better one but it has less shots) and Van is just damn strong from the moment you get him really early into the game and only gets better with his single weakness being limited range.

So how do you SRC fellas unlock Neo Granzon and/or Great Zeorymer? I've just got their regular forms but the upgrade menu doesn't list their name.
>>
>>13685937
I checked the code and Neo Granzon seems to actually have some kind of lock placed for its upgrade - you have to find either of 勇者の印 / 鋼の魂 / 光の勲章 to unlock upgrading from regular Granzon.

As for how to actually get these items, I think they're NG+ only - you have to use the item 黒の絆 - which summons Shu in his Neo Granzon and then defeat him.

Zeorymer doesn't seem to have anything, so maybe just double check again.

>>
>>13685746
The early game has too many bad units dragging the level average down, and in the first third of the game almost nothing happens, to the point where it makes you think they had to cut the game length down during development (seriously, the DS SRWs go 55->46->43). The stage numbers go from 1 to 36, but there are intermissions in-between two-part stages, so it's more like "36 chapters, 46 stages".

>>13685803

>>
>>13686651
Does your attack power on weapons ever go up, or are damage increases based entirely on stats?
>>
>>13686655
If you upgrade a Unit's Rank, Attack Power goes up by like 100 per Rank (amongst other things)

Some characters/units do have special abilities that raise their attack damage as they level up - ZINV and Escaflowne comes to mind.
>>
>>13686660
What's the maximum rank?
>>
>>13686666
I think theoretically it's 10.

Practically speaking, the costs get a bit prohibitive around Rank 5-6
>>
>>13686666
Yeah, all stats increase with each rank, and the max rank is 10, with no way I've seen of being able to change that. At least not in the usual way of editing the text in the save files, the upgrades are probably more in-line with the actual programming of the game.

I used to snap pics of each mech after ranking them up all the way, but with me just screwing around with rolls right now, I decided not to bother.

(Still can't upgrade Chirico, but strangely enough, I can't upgrade into GaoFighGar either, despite having the right number of kills and fiddling with it)

What about the fucking team that finished alpha's editing and YEARS worth of fucking waiting and work on that one fucking game? thats it? hes just gonna give up on alpha when it was the only fucking game anybody REALLY wanted out of him? the game that took 10 years to get this far, ending with actually having to hire 20 people from here, and actually getting it done supposedly? .

>>
>>13687587
Did you read my post.
>>
>>13687590
The problem is that your post implies that he translated it "out of nowhere". He'd been working on that one for an extraordinarily long amount of time as well.
>>
>>13687584
It was.

Hokuto is actually a professional translator for a living who is completely fluent in both languages and they single handedly did the whole entity of @G's translation in near record time with Gideon. They also helped out with the Fantasy Maiden Wars (Touhou SRW) translation as well by proofreading and helping another fluent translator with the harder bits of dialogue. It's why both @G and FMW enjoyed such solid translations.

The problem with @ is that the original translator who worked with Gideon was a hack, it was a Brazilian who had neither a fluent command of English OR Japanese and wasn't realized till it had been released. It has been fixed multiple times by several random anon's but the efforts are all so poorly organized there is upteen several versions of the fixes floating about now nobody has ever really compiled. There isn't really any point in trying to pick back up something that is effectively already done.
>>
>>13687563
>when it was the only fucking game anybody REALLY wanted out of him?

You're not everyone, bro.

If you want to understand Alpha, just go learn Japanese. It'll be a more productive use of your time than shitposting on 4chan.

Satan, what the fuck are you on about?
He has SMT if which alone has more demand than SRW@, Romancing SaGa 2 has people waiting for it since forever as it's the only game in the series that remains untranslated, the Lagrange Point release was BIG even on /vr/, Rudra no Hihou was another big release only because it was a forgotten Squaresoft game.

I'd tell you if my copy ever came here.

Thing is I used the regular air mail for playasia since I was in no rush, but I have no idea what company is delivering it so I don't know who to use the tracking code with.
>>
>>13688055
BX is not some OH GOODNESS YOU MUST PLAY THIS IT WILL SEND YOU TO HEAVEN sort of game, but it's certainly not bad and if you're a fan of the franchise I'd recommend it. Especially if you played UX, playing UX after BX is showing me all the engine optimization that went into BX and it really does play better in some ways.
>>
>>13688079

Also I'm going to guess that BX doesn't have over a dozen bugs
>>
>>13688079

I enjoyed UX a lot but a big part of that was because I was familiar with pretty much every series in the game for once.

That would be less of the case for BX. I've never even heard of Gorg or Galient before.
>>
>>13688082
It... does have some. Awakened Unicorn can sometimes freeze your game if you watch its animations, and no one has any idea why because it seems to be completely random. The SD Gundams lose like 50 MP at level 50 (they all have a pretty good stock so it isn't TOO much of a loss, but it's definitely annoying). Tacticians that give all your moves Barrier Pierce give EVERY SINGLE ATTACK IN THE GAME Barrier Pierce, making them extraordinarily risky to use at best.

On the other hand, I think we've confirmed that "Wingcross SKL gaining Will when everyone else loses it" isn't a bug at all, because it still does that.
>>
>>13688148
> Tacticians that give all your moves Barrier Pierce give EVERY SINGLE ATTACK IN THE GAME Barrier Pierce, making them extraordinarily risky to use at best.
Talk about a double-edged sword.

There's also that one stage where Goldymarg appears on the map for a turn or two, but if you look at his stats it shows Falsaber's sprite

They probably didn't have a sprite for Goldymarg in the first place, but it's weird that they just left a placeholder there instead of just not letting you hover over him in the first place since he's not ever a playable unit.

Just pointing out that it's a different series with different devs, even if the plots are connected

Very very few handheld SRW have ever had 3D maps vs all the 2D map ones. It's not a matter of the PSP/Vita being able to handle it, obviously since there's tons of bigger 3D games on those systems, it's obviously a choice by the devs.

It does have a manual in the "page" directory as HTML files but it doesn't have a list of every single skill/ability in the game - just the generic ones.

That being said - a lot of skills are "generic" skills given new names like a bunch of Newtype variants.

You could also go to the Data directory itself and open up the robot.txt and pilot.txt files in the "味方" directory for direct data. You'll need to cross-reference the SRC Engine's manual to figure out what the entries mean though.

If there was another OG anime, would you want it to be faster and more fluid than The Inspectors?

While good, it felt too much like the games and had a ton of standing around that dragged down the action.

>That being said - a lot of skills are "generic" skills given new names like a bunch of Newtype variants.

Yeah, I noticed a good number of attacks use renamed variants of the "Aura Power" kind of ability. Gurren Lagann is a good example of that.

I was just curious to try and find it, and see if there'd be anyone willing to help out with it. Though it might be a bit much for something so obscure, even if it does have a Pastebin now.
>>

to be fair they had to cram like 50+ stages into a 26 episode anime.

Maybe the theoretical OGG anime will be a lot better since it's like 39 stages (counting the route split)

I am absolutely serious here.

Learn Japanese.

SRW games are rarely translated not because the hacking is hard, but because the scripts are goddamn huge. Translating the text is the major barrier to every SRW, not the actual mechanics of getting the text in there. (not to say getting the text in is easy, but it's not the biggest hurdle)

If you want to understand SRW stories, just sit the fuck down and start learning Japanese. It will be much faster than waiting for translations and it will let you play every SRW out there instead of the few someone bothers to translate. There are lots of resources out there, so get cracking.
>>
>>13688953
>Though it might be a bit much for something so obscure, even if it does have a Pastebin now.
Aye - I don't mind casually translating a skill effect when someone posts a screenshot but a structured approach when people compile hundreds of units to dig through for something that I think really only has a handful of interested parties right now... probably not happening.

Unless despair route becomes so canon that everyone moves to SRC en-mass, but that will never happen, right?

Well, what I did was take classes in high school and collage. We used the Genki textbook, which worked well enough.

Looking around the internet, this site seems pretty good: http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/

There's a guide to katakana in the OP, and that site has a guide to hiragana. Learning those are your first steps into Japanese. Good luck!
>>
>>13689013

Well if all you want to do is speak the language, then the 2 Genki books will basically give you enough knowledge that you'll never have real problems holding a conversation with a Japanese person. And I say that from experience.

But reading will require more studying than that.

This is true. If someone wants to seriously learn enough to read a SRW then it's going to take a lot of studying weird military and scientific kanji.

Maybe go through a basic course, then take a shot at your favourite manga in raw Japanese with a dictionary on-hand. It'll be slow going, but your vocabulary will improve with the kind of things people say in manga (which is going to be more relevant to SRW than the kind of things they say in newspapers).

SRW games may have a huge script, but so do a lot of other games. Entire visual novels have been translated, and as someone brought up earlier Fire Emblem Fates got a fanpatch even though the thing was going to be officially translated in a year. Not only that, but a lot of people are just fine with reading plot summaries instead of full on translation patches since since let's face it, most SRW dialogue is tedious as hell "let's have as many people get in on this conversation as possible". There's really no reason there should even be SRW games where people don't know the details of the plots besides the fact that, well...

The honest to goodness reason a lot of SRW games are to this day untranslated, line-by-line or summary-wise, is that people just really don't care enough about them. I'm not even talking about people not wanting to learn another language entirely just to play them (because that's a bit too much to ask your random player), I'm talking about the people who legitimately could do it but don't because who the fuck wants to take the time to sit down and type all that shit out? There's a reason a lot of the translations out there are tied to Let's Plays, you have to be at that level of insane "I want to spend my free time playing a game for people on the internet to enjoy" to even consider this kind of thing.

Shit remember the 2hu SRW game that kept invading the general a while back? Three people burned through ~50 chapters worth of text in a year and a half. Meanwhile you look at Alpha 1, which has had a full team cracking away at it for eight years now, and even after someone came in and basically google translated the entire script so that people could crowdsource an edit we /still/ don't have anything.

tl;dr Apathy is the true Super Robot Wars Z3: Tengoku-Hen Despair Route.

If I were to complain about any one thing in BX, it's that they give too few deploy slots in the end considering how much you end up with, so no.

The other two are "that's a matter of taste" and "eh, sure, but my favorite game is GC so fuck you anyway" in order.

GC.

That's not favoritism either, GC is the only game aside from OE (and lolOE) to actually do L-Gaim plot on Pentagona World instead of doing most or all of it on Earth far away from where the conflict should be. Compact 1 does give you more characters though, so point in its favor for that.

There's like 2 bosses that give anyone trouble.

Don Sauzer, and Perfectio. And the latter is subjective.
>>
>>13690001
There are more bosses that "give anyone trouble". AP Don Zauser is easy if you know he's coming, wheras another boss you were unaware of might completely blindside you (In my first run of BX, the Vajra Frontier was enough to "give me trouble" mostly because I didn't realize all of what it could do when I started the stage)

Also you forgot a large glut of Winky Era bosses, and bosses from Impact.

>>

>The guy's doing it on a first game actually.
Well, if you know exactly where enemies spawn, then you really could clear shit out quickly. And once he got the Tension Raiser things would go much faster.
>>
The only boss that ever made me go "fuck this" was Dark Brain because I didn't know he was coming and used too many seishin before fighting him. And he has so much armor that you literally HAVE to have someone whose only job is to nerf his armor at the start of the turn.
>>
>>13690034
The keyword is always "if". IF you don't know X boss is coming, it might be a threat, but if you do, then they won't. That applies to a lot of SRW bosses, not just Don Zauser.
>>
Some Compact bosses were actually kinda scary (excluding being one shotted by L-Gaim)
Funnily enough, Don Zauser, the final boss, was a pushover, if nothing more special than a standard boss.
>>
What even is a hard SRW boss?

All of the ones people complain about just have giant numbers that makes beating them annoying, not actually hard.
>>
>>13690040
I'd say Dark Brain, Perfectio only because of how long his stage is and you can't exactly turtle since no more SP Regen, final stage of Dark Prison on EX Hard cause fuck trying to keep Tellius to survive until Shu appears, and EX-Hard Rand route The Edel Bernal are some of the hardest bosses of SRW.

Theoretically: something that spawns before the last wave of regular enemies, charges at you, and has a really accurate wide-range mapw, possibly one that can cause a status effect. Also has a lot of armor, Prevail, is extremely accurate, and either has a lot of HP or regenerates to full.

It's a STRATEGY rpg so you could just have them make accomplishing the mission objective difficult.

I thought Gauron's first appearance on SRW W was a kick in the pants. This is well before you'd have enough Seishin to just to be able to cheese him completely, well before you'd have enough upgrades to break the game in half, and he had high stats, the Lambda Driver and would cast seishin of his own.

And for some reason, Proist on SRW L had a ridiculously accurate MAP attack, so I threw Destiny Gundam at her and just whittled her HP down to nothing.

On the note of hard bosses, I kind of wish that they used SRW Z1's stage 38 to test what it would have been like if you had to go up against enemies that would cast seishin like your own, just to see how people would tackle it, or what they would say.
>>
I'ms starting to remember why I liked early SRWZ more than it in the later game.

I didn't have 10 pages of pilots to sort through with PP and wonder what I do with all this PP on subpilots that I don't really use or never upgrade their mecha, even if they're in a squad.
>>
>>13690201
>Proist on SRW L had a ridiculously accurate MAP attack

Because she's a lategame K boss that they put on a route split (note that some of the more annoying bosses in the series are on route splits) that wasn't nerfed.
>>
>>13690211
She was easy on SRWK though. Hell, she was easy once she switched to the King Gaurius the 23rd or whatever it was called.

It's just that on SRW L her MAP attack was really accurate, and only my most nimble of units could not get hit by it.

On that note, the Goddannar's last boss had a MAP like that too.
>>
>>13690057
Outside of doing 2Hu SRW style bosses, I think singular SRW bosses tend to be rather poor and it works better if both the bosses and grunts synergize together to make your life hard and you aren't allowed to just pick off all the grunts for free Morale before tackling the boss.

The thing with SRW and most SRPGs in general is that they're generally hardest in the early game when you're lacking in resources and units and have to take advantage of everything that you have.

There might be a few stinkers late game if you aren't prepared for it like Don Saucer or NUR Gadlight but generally the only real way to make a boss hard is to have them act on the same playing field as the player or have them work together with grunts.

Can you explain, please? This is my first winkysoft game.
>>
>>13690714
Winkysoft games don't have the Defense Stat - just Armor.

Also Morale/Will is a straight final damage multiplier which ends up being more than 2x as effective as it is in modern SRW damage formula games.

Which means that Damage rapidly outpaces Defenses - the only thing that tanks late game are Spirit spammers or units with stupid amounts of HP (Gunbuster has like 120k HP if I'm not wrong)

On the plus side, this goes the same for the enemy side - it's nice to be able to one-shot final bosses.
>>
>>13690725
Ah, I see, thanks. So the will up seishins are more useful this time round?
>>
>>13690714
Each stat point over 100 is +1% to the displayed attack power of a weapon. Each will point over 100 is +1% to the value you get after you modify for stats. So 200 in a damage stat + 150 will = triple the displayed damage before armor. Which means, without a Defense stat, Armor does very little even though, at least in the regular SRWs, it's modified by armor and terrain ratings.
>>
>>13690735
They're super useful - some of the best units in the games are those that can throw 3 Yells onto themselves and then one-shot Grunts - if they're a multi-pilot Super, they might even have SP left over for Valors!

Modern Yell is just kinda shit IMO
