I see what you did there.

But no, the term comes from when the Catholic Church originally had someone who wasn't a member speak for the argument as to why a person SHOULDN'T be granted sainthood in the name of fairness. To speak for the devil, as it were.

It was actually a closed position for centuries iirc, but they reopened it for the hearing on consideration of Mother Theresea. The late Christopher Hitchens was asked to come in and be the devil's advocate, which he did, but not entirely successfully since she got sainthood anyway.
>>
>>13677197

There's a quote about Shin Mazinger too where someone involved said they wanted Mazinger Z to have a really cool finisher for once, and that was part of the reason for the Big Bang Punch.

So basically, either they hilariously missed the boat since Z2 was the last game that Xabungle showed up in OR they're planning to use more Xabungle soon, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the latter.
>>

Same here, though I'm not putting much stock into anything.
>>
>>13677180
The game files for Robot Dungeon actually has a text document detailing the series list, likely because you need a certain pilot or mech before that series shows up on the in-game database. So that should be up-to-date and complete.

It's ordered by the dates of the series' debuts, and the earliest entries are two series from the sixties. I'm sure you guys can guess.

>>
How is Alpha1's difficulty on a scale from W to AP? Anything I should know before I get it?
>>
>>13677821
It's still running Winkysoft formulas, so will-boosting spirits are amazing. It also had a weird thing where firing a long-range weapon point blank does extra damage, so Wing Zero is even better than normal.

And yes, the two things above make the SRX even more busted than usual, but you can only combine in ten stages per game and you get it at ten stages before the end of the game.

Check Akurasu for secrets, there are a ton. Not all of them are worth getting, though if I recall Powered-Up Mazinger Z is better than Mazinkaiser.

Always use Giant Robo.
>>
Have we found a way to break the hard cap on units in SRC Robot Dungeon yet?
>>
>>13677846
>Always use Giant Robo
Any particular reason other than the fact that it's its last SRW presence?

Currently trudging through the Vita version (which involves playing the Pocket Station minigame for extra cash), so it'd be nice to know who to spend money on.
>>
>>13677846
>ten stages per game

Ten MAPS per game, not stages. Do be warned, the last stage on the Hard route is three Maps, and each of them has its own combination. Also, in the assault on Angel Halo, it starts combined, and if you don't decombine it ever this won't count towards that (if you do and then try to recombine, it will.) Also to take into account: Stage 63 has no map or fighting.

>though if I recall Powered-Up Mazinger Z is better than Mazinkaiser.

Yes, but for a first run, the Real Routes are better for getting actually useful secrets. Super gets you Garalia in a shitty Aura Battler (yawn), Touji in his Eva 03 (yawn), Gunbuster's extra attacks (ok in that they give you a 1-3 P move, but both of the moves are redundant or weak otherwise so yawn), and Powered Mazinger (actually good.)

Mazinkaiser is still totally worth it if you don't take that route though.

>>13677901
>Any particular reason other than the fact that it's its last SRW presence?

Not really. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad robot - a free ~3800 base finisher in Alpha 1? That's my kind of efficiency! - but its terrain ranks are eh and its range options are either piss or have too small an ammo count. Its main draw is that, well, it's the last time you're going to get a chance to use it, and you're probably not using it in 64.

Oh, on the subject of terrains - for dodgy units, a B in the air that you can fly with is superior to an A on the ground, and for all units flight is 30% extra Dodge/Hit chance assuming equal terrain rankings, meaning things like Giant Robo might be better off flying anyway (B rank in Air compared to A on Ground, but that's still a +15% hit chance.)

I say upgrading doesn't quite matter the way it does in a bunch of other SRW games - Armor is basically worthless in a Winkysoft formula once the game goes on long enough, you'll use Spirit Commands to damage mitigate and most finishers do fine at base. Some units have grunt-bashing weapons that are decent for upgrading though.

Multi-pilot Supers are king.

Why not? IS were originally intended for advanced EVA, with their shields protecting their pilots from vacuum; Tabane was just batshit and created a power core + control module that allowed them to exceed the most advanced weapons of war of the time.

Yeah, I ended up digging in the files until I figured out how to level cheat and jacked everyone up to 99 (and some boss units will still give you a hard time then) and knocking out Irui. I wonder what you needed to do to do whatever the center tile allows. Defeat Shu, perhaps?

Z1 didn't do anything wrong. Even with all of those extra details put into all of the graphics, it still more than delivered on ends that it really didn't need to, and still gave more than most mainline games are willing to give.

When it started to go down hill is when Z2 came out for the PSP and decided that it was going to be splitting both games in half.
When you think about how bloated @3 was and how 4/5ths of the story had no goddamn plot, it's not surprising that Z3 ended up the way it did.

>>13681517
Yes, the 3 titular mechs can combine themselves into one big Super Rayearth, but that thing only have one named attack.
Each of the component mechs has a great variety of moves (especially Fuu, which can be a repair unit, have a repair MAP, or a MAP that binds enemy units, or inflicting several kinds of status damage, all depending on the makers' choice), and that's not taking cues from the games, which give them 2 or 3 times the number of attacks from the TV series.
I guess the closest one you can relate to is the 3 Gaiking LOD units.

You can count the number of scenes with real animation on the units with one hand.

FMP didn't have nice animation until when Kyoani took over. Which is the reason why on Lambda Strike and Venom look like they even put some sort of effort into it.

If you want to be anime accurate after the TSR upgrade, Arbalest was supposed to get a different team to work on it. Probably the Macross guy.

Ah, well, I've only played Cross mode, so I can't help you just yet. I might fiddle with Plus mode later, but I don't know. If the data in the files is the same as I recall for Cross, maybe you need to change the level number in both spots? There are two spots where you can technically change levels in the data, though only one actually did anything not superficial, as I found out the first time I fiddle with levels in Cross mode.

Much to my surprise I hardly found something out of OG themes or the shows' own music to fit in well enough, except for the Maximum Break themes I didn't change much except putting the original version of the songs used.

I did use Fang of Critias on Shinji though.

That's cool. You're free to do what you want.

I'm the "All OGs Music All The Time" guy. I was just curious, because FF Record Keeper's JP version has the lobby music set to "Battle on the Big Bridge" due a boss killcount even that JP no-lifers hit the maximum number for in a few days. So that put the idea in my head since there are quite a lot of versions of that song and iirc it's a pretty popular song.

The cap in K, L, UX, and BX is 5000. I don't know if you can get more than that with a mapw or not. In Z2.2, it's 3000 normally and 6000 with an Iron Emblem, provided you cast Gain first. I think subpilots can gain more than that if they're uneven with the main pilot. I had Setsuna with an Iron Emblem make a super high level bosskill in the sniper stage in Saisei so Saji might've jumped up more than 12 levels.

Festum has a skill that drastically increases their evasion and accuracy. Fafner units can offset this, but later on in the game, this won't matter because spirits.

Prologue Festum has level 3 or 4 Mind-Reading, so it gets some huge boost to its hit and dodge rates. So you need to take advantage of the hitrate increase on support attacks to be able to kill it in time if you want Shouko.

>>

Yeah Festum has some kind of innate thing where anyone that isn't in a Fafner (and Heroman, for some reason) automatically gets lower hitrates against them.
>>
>>13682885
>and Heroman, for some reason
It's because he doesn't have a brain, mindreading won't do anything to him
>>
>>13682885
Most Festum don't even have Level 3 or 4 Mind-Reading. It's just the one in the Prologue, and the TV and HAE final boss. The rest of the time it's 1, maybe 2. Anything that passively-increases dodge rate (not the stat) offsets it, and so does casting Focus.

Unless you use lots of text-manipulating or console programs that take advantage of high-ANSI characters. Also the backslash/yen thing is an annoyance.
>>
>>13682885
SDP.
Super Dimensional Powers.

1. They can read minds. [Most Festum only have a low level version, the one in the Prologue has a higher version as a means of gameplay mechanics showing that Festum are dangerous]
2. They can assimilate/eat their opponents if they fail a Will Save [In UX if their Moral drops too low]
3. They can teleport
4. They suicide bomb after being killed [Which luckily wasn't a mechanic they gave them as well because FUCK that]

As the series as progressed, SDP has allowed Festum other abilities such as Weapon Mimicry, massive heat generation, massive lighting generation, massive frost generation, attack reflection, barrier projection, weapon power amplification.

>>
>>13682918
>It's still not a biological brain.

Yeah, but Festum can block mechanical devices firing automatically, so their power should cover that.
>>
>>13682885
You know, it's possible that you just had Focus up on Heroman, or maybe Prevail was in effect, or it was a leadership aura, or terrain bonus. Heroman is no more or less affected by the Festum passive than anyone else.
>>
>>13682881
She'd be good friends with Flit then.

Together they just nuke everything.
>>
>>13682923

It's just a transmitted phrase the Festum heard once so they tried to use that to communicate with us by sending it back. They didn't know what it meant for the longest time, it's just a sound to them.

>>13682930

I think Heroman is unaffected because of his size bonus.
>>
>>13682924
Heroman is fucking magic. He's less of a robot and more of a construct animated by your typical Western superhero backstory. (Now that I think about it, is he considered Real or Super by the games?)

I doubt the Festum were ever meant to deal with a literal marvel-tier AI.

In Fafner as in real life, humans kept sending out messages trying to contact with aliens. The Golden Voyager disc was either modified or a later message was sent out with that phrase.

Polaris, the antagonist Mir and Hivemind of the Festum in DA comes into contact with that message and heads to earth.

The Festum ended up selecting that phrase as a means for their Mind Probe when encountering humans.

If you answer the mind probe, they begin attacking you or try assimilate you.

If you go look at all the messages and music on the Golden Voyager disc, you can think about what other phrase or music they could have selected to be their mind probe and burst out laughing.

The game has a kind of simplified Valkyrie Profile battle system with squads, but it's very easy to break, chaining up damage and fucking shit up with finishers is still pretty fun.

Story is garbage, the OG are garbage.

Crossover content is pretty well done and entertaining.

The cast is amazing.
>Read Or Die
>Keroro Gunso
>Blood+
>Darker than Black
>Slayers: Try
>Orphen
>Mahou Senshi Louis
>S-Cryed
>Mai-Hime

Music is pretty good, Plenty of Grit is well arranged and the original themes aren't bad at all.

Play it if you're a fan of those series, you won't be disappointed as they follow the show's stories well enough, though Mai-Hime and S-Cryed are the most important ones in plot terms, all the rest is kind of secondary but there are villains from all series to fight, besides Orphen which was thrown in for crossover shenanigans more than plot relevance, you can make some hella sweet dream teams though.

What game is that, PxZ?

Heroes Phantasia for PSP.

Anon I think that's a PSP game.

I'm not sure what it is, but I keep rolling it on new runs. It's from Gunparade March, for what it's worth.

Yeah, I was using them in part in my last run. They don't seem quite as broken as people say they were in regular SRW, though. (Also which is better, W or U version?)

>Mark Elf/Sein only

Well, that makes sense.

In the meantime, the Ide commands I post it. (It too seems disappointing)
>>

W raises Weapon Power, U raises... well, not... weapon power.

You kind of want a mix depending on how much survivability you think you can get away with

>Why the fuck is BX still $60 dollars? Do Nintendo games never go down in price or something?
Main reason is BX had like a 90%+ sell through rate, means there is very little BX stock that isn't second hand in circulation. Also yes Nintendo games at least the eshop versions almost never go down in price.

>UX is $80, but I have that already. What the fuck?
UX was already quite expensive for a 3DS game to begin with AND it is fucking gold dust now. It had one of the oddest sales patterns of any SRW ever. Most SRW games tend to just sell for the like first 2 weeks than they dry up, nobody buys anymore. UX however kept steadily selling on and on after it's initial release till all stock was gone.

Unlike with previous consoles 3DS is annoying to hack due to limited compatibility and therefore popular limited release videogames tend to retain value.

>>13683340
>Well yes, but it's more of the fact that import markets are scalpers.
Not always entirely their fault though, you want to make some money if you go through all that trouble.

Also for Europeans, VAT tax is fucking BRUTAL so that is another thing.

It's fucking retarded, average for most EU states is 20+% VAT, then if you're re-selling most places then charge you a further 15% ish sellers fee too on electronics, add your shipping on and you are paying near double.

The real kicker is the post services commonly run a scam which is virtually impossible to avoid. They'll use the excuse of VAT fees to withhold your parcel and demand a 'administration fee' an amount they pull out of their ass for doing absolutely shit all. Even if you go and pay your VAT before it even arrives they will still pull this shit.
>>
>>13684400
>Most SRW games tend to just sell for the like first 2 weeks than they dry up, nobody buys anymore.

That's every game ever in Japan, 90% of lifetime sales in games are made in the first week.

Huh, despite needing more kills (and I'm not even sure if it shows up as available until after Burglary), I can't upgrade to Rabidly Dog because it affects the RSC Scopedog and not the Burglary, and you can't change back to RSC.

I seemed to be having a similar problem getting Gurren Lagann properly upgraded. However, in that case I got it fixed, maybe there's something I'm missing on the VOTOMs thing.

In any case, here's Arc Gurren Lagann as its own unit.

The Arc Gurren I set up for SRWE looks like this

so do the UX skill items that simply raise stats carry their bonuses through playthroughs? Because I knew their did in K, even if you don't keep pilot skills.

>>
>>13684633

Kurou doesn't need stat increases to be god-tier. Kazuki kinda does.
>>
>>13684639
Nah, he's fine the way he is. I never used a single stat skillpart and at max upgrades with Zhuge Liang as the tactician (because fuck balancing that mechanic properly in UX), his S terrains make him unhittable and he never has trouble landing hits. I did end up giving him Gunfight because he's on the 1250 tier and combo attacks are underpowered in UX. And Kurou needs a Mobility+ partner, especially before 15-upgrade mode.

SKL.

Besides, Kurou can tank most nonFestum shit in the game.
>>
>>13684719

Tanking implies something will hit him, which is impossible with the mirror of nitocris.
>>
>>13684722
Which has the lowest Bunshin activation rate, if I'm not mistaken.
>>
>>13684719
I know about SKL and Demonbane. Boy, do I ever. I've beaten UX 11-12 times, and they were partners quite often.

>>13684722
That only has a maximum proc rate of 25%.
>>
>>13684729

If it's the lowest that's still pretty damn high because it activates like crazy in my current playthrough.
>>
>>13684737
Speaking of Bunshin, I don't know if this applies to specific Bunshins or all Bunshins, but, in the instance I found it, when Demonbane is paired with Liber Legis, Demonbane's Mirror of Nitocris is replaced by Liber Legis's generic teleporation.
>>
Isn't it 50 kills to become an Ace? Or is it 100 for Z3.2? Started playing the game recently, still savoring and enjoying the new themes and units.
>Godmars
Someone mentioned in a previous thread that there was a specific ability I needed to give the Prince to make him end-game worthy. Something about 'All' or something like that.
>>
>>13684790
Isn't it 70?
>>
>>13684737
You're just lucky.

>>13684790
80 kills. And you get +100 PP every 50 kills starting at 100.

>Something about 'All' or something like that.
Multi-Target? It makes Mars Flash deal 90% damage when you're hitting two enemies with an ALL instead of 75%.
>>
>>13684800
>Multi-Hit
That's probably the only skill that has 'All' in the description? I enjoy Godmars attacks; has a great theme and decent animation.
>>
>>13684820
There's another one that makes ALL attacks vs single targets deal +10% damage, but it's not all that useful for Godmars.
>>
>>13684729
I think it's tied with Odyssea for that title. They're both somewhere around 30-35%.

>>
>>13684834
Mirror of Nitocris is 30%, Odyssea's is 35%. And this is provided you have more Maneuver than the enemy. If it's less than or equal to, your rate's 10%.

...No, wait, I got distracted. I thought one of the things on that page was Ginguiser. False alarm, I guess.

Lot of other interesting stuff on that page though. Great Da Garn GX, Great Goldran, Might Gaine and Might Gunner (so close to Great Might Gaine Perfect Mode there), Gaigar, Baxinger, God Sigma,Walker Gallier, Daltanius, Danguard Ace...

Ok now that is MUCH more what I was expecting. That's actually super competent, all things considered, since it'd likely be closer to the "Real" side of things.
