Yes, in that everyone knows Sentai, but it's not a guarantee for success at all.

Toei tokusatsu is often an entry-level role for actors. Not all of them make it, but it's a much more promising start for an actor than Power Rangers.

Not unless the Japanese economy completely implodes and Toei closes its doors for good. Sentai's been going forty years now, it's a cultural landmark.

Yes. Shinkenger's cast either mostly wore street clothes or a uniform set of white-and-blue formalwear. Sometimes the colored clothes aren't all that noticable, sometimes they're blatant.

Toei experiments every couple of years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Most of what was in Go-Busters didn't work long-term, but they probably learned a bit about how to choreograph the robot fights from it.

What was your first sentai and how did you get into it?

For me it was Gokaiger. I was watching Power Ranger clips on Youtube on a Saturday afternoon when I saw on the video recommendations this thumbnail of some pirate suits. That video was the Gokaiger promo and the overall badassery from the legendary war to the characters had me intrigued. So I started looking up information about the show where it eventually lead me to this Facebook page where it had subbed episodes up to Episode 28 since the show was airing at the time and I spent the entire afternoon catching up and liking sentai ever since.

And Ultraman's still going to this day. Sometimes it's on, sometimes it's not, but it's still got immense cultural presence.

The main difference is that Ultraman rarely has more than three-six years of having a continuous television presence. Sentai relies near-exclusively on TV as its medium, aside from the annual crossover film and the half-hour special they tack onto the Rider film each year, while Ultraman has a much stronger film and OVA presence. Between all the various forms of media, there's basically never not been something Ultra-related in production since 1966.

I got into it 'cause I had some friends who were really big into Sentai and watching Gokaiger.

the mid season twist would be the only reason the red ranger gets a lot of powerups is because the other members are transferring their power onto him so they don't turn into zords.

The team has already gone through several reds this way, which is why the red ranger has more mechs/mech-derived gadgets than all the other ones.

I finally finished Megaranger today, and while I definitely like it I can't help but feel like it held itself back at almost every turn. A lot of neat concepts get touched on, but more than any other series I've seen it seems like they get resolved quickly and a little sloppily to get back to status quo.

I know that this was the season that sentai switched back to the morning timeslot, was that at all responsible? I can see Toei playing things extremely conservatively due to the switch but trying to hang on to parts of the original plan where possible.

Has there ever been talk about having Sentai and Kamen Rider sharing a universe in-season?

Something like Chicago Fire and Chicago PD, so like one week a monster from KR will appear on Sentai and the rangers will defeat it and vice versa. You can have team ups or even have a Rider fall in love with a ranger.

The idea of a game-centered sentai series hasn't been explored since then (and arguably not even in a satisfying way that time), and considering just how much of a thing gaming has become in modern culture we're basically due.

Jetman. Been playing catch up with Power Rangers since a year or two ago. Got up to finishing RPM, which was awesome, and decided to start Kamen Rider and Sentai finally.

Have seen Kuuga, Agito, Jetman, Zyuranger, and now almost done with Dairanger. All have been great.

Kind of wish I hadn't bought the latter two on Shout Factory dvds, but whatever. Loving everything and can't wait to catch up to modern times.

That's because the Ressha were actually really nice toys in hand. Despite the main robot's look, the individual trains were pretty cool. It could be the same with this thing if the individual toys are designed interestingly enough.

Jun Shison and Ryusei Yokohama from Toqger was martial artists with Ryusei winning some championships in karate and Ikeda Junya from Gokaiger was one too who in a interview said that the Dairanger tribute episode was his favorite because he meet his idol Keiichi Wada who got him into martial arts.

Finally finished Abaranger. Pretty overwhelming enemies/final boss, Brachio never was used in the mecha, Asuka was a whiny kek.....yet the campyness, Red, Abarekiller and the dinosaurs were pretty entertaining.

Loved it, but it had one of the biggest missed opportunities I've seen in sentai: With the sheer number of mecha feeding into combiners, the show had enough to make a full team of five giant robots... and it never did.

Also, the tragedy of Daitanken only showing up twice through the season. I like its design so much more than Daibouken's it's not even funny.

Let me ask you guys something; how different is Boukenger from its Power Rangers adaptation? I got my nephew into Sentai recently and he's enjoyed the seasons that haven't made it to the US yet. He tells me that he sometimes thinks the characters in PR are dorky or lame, so I wonder if Boukenger would be a good fit for him since it was definitely one of the better modern seasons. I know he already watched at least some of PR Overdrive or whatever it was called, which I did not, so I just wonder if the differences between them would be distinct enough that he'd be interested in watching the original over the PR version.

Had a dream about a weird Sentai

there are rumors of a special game in the dead of night, where your very lives are at stake. The game is played with a demon that offers you something wondrous in return, whether it be fame fortune or anything you desire. The game is, of course, played with via mooks and kaijin, using them as game pieces of sorts.

Red is an average high schooler who gets wrapped up in these games when running home one night. There he stumbles upon and gets marked for a game being played by a girl in blue and some other people. Blue seems to be winning at first but eventually the demon cheats and starts to overtake the other people in the area, turning them into mooks themselves. Red blue and three others who were marked escape and somehow that gives them the power to transform.
