Beatrix's plan was to use the East as a buffer while the West fucked off somewhere else.To her, it was basic triage. She was freaking out during the rebellion and was trying to show the West/UN that she still had the situation under control (which is why she was so fucking brutal in the final volumes). To her, the BETA wars were more than just about Germany's survival, but about humanities survival.

Iris and the rest of the 666 opposed the plan on moral/nationalistic grounds (plan called for significant Ossie death). She is an idealist after all, and thinks they have a chance against the aliens if only the East and West would unite and those damn stasi would get out of the way.

Beatrix isn't completely evil. She did let Gretel's BF go when she found that it was his parents were dragging him along (vs Axmann who'd just torture the hell out of you just because).

Well, side-by-side, I'll concede that the eyes and the...'feeling' of the face, for lack of a better term, are probably also a little bit outstanding. Considering the face is not in close-up, that's actually pretty normal that it looks totally off, it's always like that with anime budgets, so I was more or less prepared. TE's case was just terrible budget and scene choreography management.

In SM's case those are 1G tincans. Although, at the climax fights there should be plenty of zipping around since those are VS humans rather than VS BETA.

The song, though... the song never fits. TE at least used its OST for the PVs and it's a lot better than the first hearing of GOING GOING, but SM overbalanced the scale by being dark as shit so the song still ends up sounding like it belongs to a lighter-hearted action series.

One of the funny things about Axmann is that he doesn't like to get his hands dirty; he almost always has/forces someone else to do the horrible shit. There was some really badly storyboarded sequences but the actual extent of what they could do in TE was really good.

What is unclear ? You don't spend valuable time into doing several 10+ seconds long animations for nothing. The only thing you test is the rig after it's done to see if it is working well enough to animate the model. The next thing tested are the renders, which are tested on single frame and not by the same team. Animators don't send testing anims to the render team just for fun.

I honestly don't mind the CGI from what I've seen of it so far. It's obscured by Youtube compression and snowy weather effects, but they seem to be doing something with the shading and lines to make it look somewhat 2D-esque. Ok I will explain in details one last time then.

Here is how 3D Animation works : You have a storyboard for a scene, you get the models rigs from the Rigging Team ( Or modeling team if the studio is too small to have a rigging team ), and you start to animate IN REAL TIME ( That's really important so please notice it ).

Of course you do tests when you animate because you don't do right-click/animate perfectly, but always IN REAL TIME, in your software ( Most probably Maya ).

Then, when the entire scene is ready, you pass it to the Lighting Team ( Again, regrouped with the Rendering team if it's too small ) which will set up the Lights and check if the materials react well with the lights and the animation, making adjustments if needed or sending back the scene to any team that need to correct their work. After everything is ok, they send it to the Rendering Team which already made probably most of the adjustments on single frames to get all the lights/materials ok for the animation rendering. So no, you don't see the animation test footages, because they don't go through the entire RENDER process. You could see REAL TIME tests, like turnovers and some animations cycles or even scenes from Maya directly via what is called a playblast ( Which basically launch the animation sequence and register it from the REAL TIME view ), like the tests you can see on the Total Eclipse kind of short making of, because those take like 10 minutes to do.

But the scenes you can see in the TE PV, are RENDERED ( You can see it just by the quality of the image ), and you don't render test footage, it's a total waste of time ( And by that, money ). Animating several seconds to near perfection is already really long ( The standard is between 6 and 8 seconds per day ), making the lights take literally forever as you need to test your scene again and again and again, and rendering the whole thing, even for 20 seconds, can take several hours, totally freezing one or multiple computers ( Unless you have a render farm, which size ( And power ) depends heavily on the size of the studio ).

So no, again, there is no such things as test footages in the PV. If you don't see it anywhere else, then it has been commissioned specifically for the PV.

As for the proofs, I don't know what to say. I'm an animator, that's my knowledge and personal experience in the industry, I don't see how I could prove that. Not that I care much if you believe me or not though.

How did it change? I thought the justification for swords was always that for some reason they think that swords will magically last longer than your ammo and you might survive longer if resupply can't be guaranteed.

But why in God's name would you ever actively want to get close to something that it's greatest threat of attack requires you being in melee range? The objective truth is that CQC should only be a last resort, because if the resupply situation gets bad enough you have no access to ammo or reinforcements for such an extended period. then the whole situation's fucked so bad you should be falling back as fast as possible anyways and rebuilt the lines further back in a more defensible position.

This is also ignoring the fact that with a sword instead of a gun the number of BETAs you can kill per unit time is far, far lower, and your reach is far, far shorter, so you're more likely to simply be overwhelmed by numbers, or the BETA run right past you and attack whatever it is you're trying to defend.
