***READ THE GUIDE****

For those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

My advice would be practice by cutting up extra backing paper for waterslides into small "Katoki-warning-label" sized bits, and then move them onto a dummy model.

It definitely took me awhile (cut my decaling speed in half easily) when I first got them, as I'd been doing waterslides since I was 8.
After I did some practice (and used up most of my extra warning/caution markings) I had basically retrained my muscles to work with the new system.
>>
give it to me straight doc.
Will I be able to fit a HG, a MG and an action base into SAL?
>>
>>11745001
Nope. Most places won't even allow for 1 MG + AB in a SAL box.
Depends on the MG Box, some of the older MG boxes are "smaller" than the new standard which is wide flat boxes instead of tall skinny ones.

Typically you can only do 2 to 3 HG boxes for a SAL shipment depending on how small the HG boxes are.

You would need to use the 1/100 tallgeese parts on the 1/144 sinanju. Otherwise the 1/144 TG ones parts are way too small proportionally.

They decided to do a weird thing with MG F91, Crossbone, and Turn A where they don't have polycaps at all. It lead to the whole thing being really loose and wobbly.

Or at least the Turn A is. Can't speak for the F91 and the Crossbone since I don't have them.

You can fix this problem with some Pledge Future, but OOB, yeah.

F91 and Crossbone are also really small. I think MG Crossbone Full Cloth is about the same size as HG Sinanju?

Your weathering doesn't look like weathering so much as just dirt, like a dog rolling around in the mud. When doing weathering, you need to think of the cause of each piece of weathering and to what extent. Water streaks for aquatic suits. Mud on the feet for ground suits. Laser burns on shields, and so on. That weathering is just too uniform and sloppy.

HG? Simple, lots of ARTICULATION, few stickers in places. Beam green parts react to UV which is nice. Keeping the empty runner just in case I want to make beam sabres out of them in the future.

Official waterslides for them are long and fragile. Frustratingly so.

>>

The GM Quel, GM Custom, GM Type C (Space or Earth Type), Gundam Ground Type, GM Sniper, GM Ground Type, Dom & honorable mention to the Rick Dom.

All of those have 2-3 guns + 2 beam sabers and some cool gimmicks. Except for the Rick Dom who only has 2 guns & a beam saber, but it also has the coolest accessory, the giant Beam Bazooka.

>>11746884
It's a perfectly fine kit. Being ABS on ABS joints means continued re-posing over time will take it's toll but it's stable, fairly solid (feels a bit weak because it's so thin & small but it's really not), has a solid number of accessories, gimmicks that work flawlessly, and great articulation.

The only two complaints I have about the kit are with the F91 Harrison Custom, as it has to use an abundance of yellow stickers to make up for a lack of color, and doesn't come with the stand.
>>
>>11746862
There's always the Model GoGo Kampfer Kai kit, it's expensive, but based on a Zaku 2.0 frame, a well needed update, even if it's a third party kit
>>

Does anyone have any tips for cleaner looking decals? I've been decaling Char's Zaku MG and they just don't look quite right.
>>
So I tried airbrushing an action base just to get the hang of it
When the piece gets covered by too much paint it's because I am pulling too much or I am airbrushing too close?
>>
>>11747004

Six of one.

Better to have too little paint on a piece than too much. Back up and ease off.
>>
>>11746999
Use waterslides they usually look better, but first watch a video about how to put them and the various solvent you need to use, that helps a lot.
>>
>>11746999
For Peel & Stick decals or Dry Transfers, there's not much you can do but hope you get the application right the first time.

For anything Peel & Stick, I use a 3M Nylon Spudger to flatten them out some and help remove any air bubbles.

If it's waterslides, then you'll want to get some decal setting & softening solutions to help them mold better to your paint or plastic, so they look like they're one with the armor.

For Peel & Stick or Waterslides, sometimes trimming down the excess on the edges can go a long way.

Cut around the sticker on the sticker sheet with a knife, leaving the and line it up to where it's supposed to be placed. If it looks too big, you can trim it down the finally peel and stick when you're happy with the size.

Has anyone actually bought from Banzai Hobby before? Their site seems messed up and the search completely broken.
>>
>>11747593
The Dom holds up fine for sure
>>
>>11747593
The Dom is pretty much the beginning of the "2.0" style as it has almost a full inner frame, individually articulated fingers with a peg system for the hands, moveable mono-eye, etc.

Besides a few ugly seams on the weapons and the fact that the hands are technically not compatible with 2.0 weapons, the DOM is a very solid kit.

As for the GMs, they're not bad but they're also not complicated. They all have minor small problems with some joints being a tad loose, or holding the gun not being as easy as it should be, but those are all easily fixed.
The proportions, molded detail, etc are all still very solid.

I would say that any MG previous to the Dom should be avoided unless you want that goofy looking Zaku I.

As for kits after the Dom, some are still solid and others have 2.0s or VerKAs that I would choose over them.

For those that don't, the only really bad ones I can think about are the G04/G05, Alex, ZZ / FAZZ, & Gun Cannon.

I will say that a few kits before the 2.0s are a bit lack luster but there is nothing terrible about them including the Rick Dias, Hyaku Shiki, & Hi-Zack.

Don't judge a kit by it's age as some more recent kits are just a nightmare to work with sometimes.

I'm gonna tell you the same thing someone told me when I was in your shoes: Slow your fucking roll, homie.

You're going to start getting hooked on buying and collecting rather than building. You might start rushing kits to get through your backlog and the quality will suffer for it. You might look at your backlog and have so many things to pick from, that you choose nothing. At worst, you may end up like my friend who had a bad day and stopped caring about buying food - he just went for the quick satisfaction of buying a few more kits.
Try not to blow literally all of your money on kits. It's not good. "Plastic crack" is a fun joke when you're not broke.

So I'm in need of some advice.

I completed the Koto 1/60 Laevatein then I realized that it doesn't have the orange lining.

I'd paint it but that would require me to take it apart. The parts are so stiff and difficult to take apart that I don't want to risk breaking anything. So I'm wondering if gundam marker would suffice?

Pic related, my 1/60 Laevatein...

the MG 2.0.

RG is the first one and explodes in your hand.

The 30th anniversary redesign is shit anyway, so go for the glorious semi-retro 2.0.
>>
>>11748589
>>11748596
Masking tape and hand paint will serve you well. If you're not that confident, use the orange marker.
>>
>>11747950
PSA against actually durable paint? You've got it quite wrong there. You never, ever want paint to come off.
>>
>>11748609
so then I'd need to go out and buy some liquid surface primer?
>>
>>11748619
My suggestion wouldn't be the best on how to go with it due to never doing a Koto. Personally I'd sand, prime, paint then coat to seal it. I'm sure another anon would be wiser with this situation.
>>
>>11748589
>>11748596

First, buying Koto? Lol, well hope it lasts more than a few months.

>>11748609
This. Get masking tape.

>>11748619
What? You can just sand it down a little bit with a medium grit 1200 to 1600, then a finger grit 2000-3000 and you'll have a surface that will accept paint fairly well
>>
>>11748612
>never, ever want paint to come off
that's dumb

you want the paint to come off when you want it to and not to come off when you don't want it to.

also, paint that -truly- doesn't come off uses chemicals that will kill you.

I'm not sure why put step 12 is giving me issues all of a sudden. The first time it went well now they 2nd time it wont stay together or pops off easily when moving the arm around.

Yet I didn't have any issue with the unicorn mode kit doing this step.

When I went to Tatsu, there were a bunch of people there, who were all just hanging out and building gunpla. If I lived near San Jose, I would go there all the time.

matters not when I'm matte coating it when I wake up.

Some surfaces were sanded all over, some weren't with the unsanded ones possibly being the ones you're seeing. Some nubs were 10/10 clean cut and needed no further attention or sanding, some were gouged worse than n00bs and need file > sand paper. Some sanded surface were kept to the minimum to the 1mm edge of the nub.

Sorry to break the illusion.

>>11749470
They're pretty fun. The frame goes together quickly, so you're just putting the armor on top of it. If you have a 1/144 hangar, I'd think that would make for an even more fun build. Lining and decaling everything is worth it, the final result is really cool.

I'd recommend the Mk II AEUG as a first RG, as it's generally the most solid and really detailed.

However, they aren't for the hamhanded. Especially the RG Zeta.

I like to think of it as the logical conclusion of the UC century, even if it is an AU. But anyway, so are there any good X kits? I didn't do enough research last time I bought kits and ended up with the older version of the EZ8 and the Gouf Custom (which I'm building anyway, its still fun.)

I really feel like the Midwest is where people come to die.

I feel your pain brother. I love the Alex to death, I even love my G04 & G05, but they got the short end of the stick.

Alex was so bad that it not only got the short stick on the MG but the HGUC as well. As much as I am an MG / 1/100 fan, I have to pin my hopes on it getting a good RG at least.

Shaldoll will be hard, AGE seems to have bombed pretty bad across all lines and getting reprints of the kits doesn't seem like it will happen often.

Especially with how well the Build Fighters line is doing. Those and the main HGUC kits will definitely be getting the majority of the production run.

I choose to display all of my kits, but some that I know I can do more with or fix up easily (e.g. don't need a total repaint) I have set aside in a stack for me to work on when my current project annoys/frustrates/bores me.
I also have a secondary pile for problem kits I'm not sure what to do with. Currently that's exclusive to the FAZZ & Crossbone Full Cloth.

It was a design from R3 that left Bandai in sorta a bad spot as they were going for anime accuracy on a popular, albeit, goofy as hell design.

The other R3 Designs, like the Layzner / New Layzner, or L-Gaim Mk II are much better and somewhat encapsulate that "sophisticated" and well thought out idea of a Master Grade kit.
Same can be said for the 1/20 scale Votoms kits from Bandai.

Show your spray paints. (because end of thread)

Not much to say about mr hobby and tamiya, goes on smooth and nice.

Krylon's primer is thick (as it is with commercial ones) so more care is needed and doesn't have as smooth a finish, good for larger areas.
Still testing the matte, had frosting but that was because I sprayed too much at once.

MG X, there's HG of X, DX, X divider and airmaster which are quite recent.

>building RG Z'Gok
>loosen up the inner frame & it becomes floppy as fuck
>Decide to do handstand pose anyway
>watch as it falls in slow motion and breaks off a claw

But it gets better, I tried to see if i could fit one of the 'fingers' from the four clawed hand onto the frame of the three clawed and snapped it too.
I'm trying my hardest to forget about the RG rx-78's ankle joint incident.

Just bought the Duel MG. Always liked him.

The front add-on skirt armor for the Assault Shroud doesn't really "work."

Like, it doesn't even come close to clipping on like they show. If you want it on, get blue-tac or glue it.

It's old, slightly wonky proportions/looks with articulation of a rock.

However it shouldn't stop you adding a bit of work to it to modernise it up.
