Could Donald Trump be considered a philosopher?
>>
i think he was heavily influenced by marx, the way he connects with the proletariat and looks out for their interests the way machiavellian clintons or classical liberal republican cannot. moreover, philosophers hitherto have only interpreted the world, the point is to change it, which he is doing.

>>

Probably not. What is a "philosopher?" I would imagine a necessary element is the ability to communicate some or any ideas through symbols/language. The man cannot form a complete sentence.

Is there any evidence that he can write? Does he know how to spell, punctuation, basic rules of grammar, etc?

Being serious here. Some people sound retarded in real life but have decent writing.
>>
I think he sees himself as philosopher-king, as Plato described it.

>Trump will not be America's Deng Xiaoping
>>
>>9878651

No. Trump lacks any sense of intellectual curiosity about the world, which going back as far as Plato is a pretty standard necessary condition to be a philosopher.

Trump barely reads. When asked if he has ever read a biography of a US president, he answered: “I never have. I’m always busy doing a lot. Now I’m more busy, I guess, than ever before.”

Contrast that with Bush for example. Bush read hundreds of books as president, from literature to biographies and history, by both conservative and liberal authors, and competed with his advisor Karl Rove for how many books they could complete each year. Obama was also an avid reader, reading a lot of literature and citing novels as having had a deep impact on his actions and morality.

Trump isn't even intellectually curious about being president. Trump has said he doesn't need daily intelligence briefings because "he's a smart person." He does however, reportedly receive a twice daily packet of positive stories about himself.

There are certainly a few presidents who had the intellectual curiosity to be considered philosophers. Madison, for example, wrote some of the federalist papers, which are a part of the canon of political philosophy. Thomas Jefferson wrote extensively on the biology of the new world.

I've read philosophers, some presidents have been philosophers. Trump's no philosopher.

if you're gonna write bait don't make it so fucking long jesus christ, everyone remembers that The Stanger was the only book Bush read while in office after his high school english teacher wife recommended it to him after he bombed iraq, bush is and will always be the stupidest president in living memory, reagan was senile but that's different

OP's pic related lays out a set of cohesive policies, and he managed to string together a coherent tax plan among other things. He also spends several pages tallying his net worth, so you know it's him.
>>
Bannon is the philosopher.
>>
>>9880504
There is no way Trump wrote that himself. He may have written brief portions that a ghost writer cobbled together but I highly doubt Trump could write a three page paper on economic policy nonetheless a whole book of ideas. Besides, he wouldn't have time to write it. The book was the work of aides and ghostwriters.

Pants on head retarded writing. Like an extended tweet.

But all politician and news outlets do this. Havn't you watched a single politician or anchorman talk?

Whether Trump speaks at a 4th grade level while the other guy speaks at 6th grade level is a moot point.

Point is nigger joe, bubbah, Juan who learned English as a second language, Steve who is currently high as fuck, and your dumb as rocks sister all watch tv and need to get the message.

>>

>>
Wow, all these pseuds taking a salesman turned bureaucrat way too seriously. By the way, being a philosopher doesn't necessarily mean you are more in tune with the truth of the world, it often just means you are more in tune with your own bullshit than the mean person. Knowing what you don't know is a very valuable trait for people in leadership positions, and "serious thinkers" often find themselves blind to their own ignorance. Trump at least understands what he is and is willing to defer to those with greater expertise.

In any case, if youre consuming the president as anything other than a pop culture figure, youre doing it wrong. A lot of people in this thread need to stop taking themselves and the political circus so seriously
>>
>>9879806
If all that knowledge derived from reading gave Bush the confidence that he could predict and control the outcome of invading a foreign country half the world away, he would have been better off banging those hundreds of books against his head as opposed to reading them. Information isn't always good; it can delude you into thinking you know more than you actually do and seduce you into taking risks more ignorant people would shy away from.
>>
>>9879047

>>
>>9881418
>>9881418
>the president as anything other than a pop culture figure
POTUS is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Bit more than just a "a pop culture figure".
>>
>>9881467
So being an illiterate is okay because George W. Bush read books and he is a dumbass?
>>
>>9881507
he's probably some eurocuck who doesn't get how the american presidency works
>>
>>9881418
>Trump at least understands what he is and is willing to defer to those with greater expertise
No, he doesn't and isn't
Multiple law firms refused to represent him because they were rightfully afraid he would tweet out retarded shit, as he always does, and contradict whatever defense they built up
>>
>>9881507
I said to "consume Trump" like a pop culture figure, not that he merely is one. Obviously he has some institutional power in this country (although he is ultimately a cog in a larger machine of destruction). But taking the public comments and persona of the president at face value is a big mistake, and inferring competency from them is a bigger one. By now one should understand that Trump's style is hyperbole and aggression, and that doesn't necessarily translate to policy outcomes like military intervention (Clinton much more likely to invade than Trump). Better to see his antics as an entertaining side show rather than to discern some kind of false insight from them.
>>
>>9878998
>The man cannot form a complete sentence.
>
>Is there any evidence that he can write? Does he know how to spell, punctuation, basic rules of grammar, etc?

I realize you're probably just a braindead, brainwashed pseud who gets all of his opinions from CNN, BuzzFeed, and Bill Maher, but if you actually genuinely believe what you just wrote and actually care to see yourself proved wrong, you can easily determine through YouTube that he was an autist in the 70s and 80s, and like all autists, became a normie by forcing himself into social interaction and then creating a normie persona. You happen not to like that normie persona, in large part because you were told not to like it, but enough American voters did to elect him president.

Presuming that he's an idiot because you don't like his public speaking register is called underestimating him. Sort of like predicting the end of his campaign in December, 2015, as most smug lefties like yourself did.

Your Dear Leader is what you want him to be, faggot.

Modern society is extremely complex, and large scale government interventions naively based in "reason" can have enormously destructive unintended consequences in that complex environment. No amount of human knowledge can take account of every variable and every interdependency in that context, so it is better to do nothing. Smart people have a habit of convincing themselves that they can understand complex systems, to tragic consequences for the world. The Iraq war was not a one man operation by Bush; the foreign policy community, full of smart, well read people, largely agreed with him and backed the invasion. We know how that worked out. Thirty years prior, public policy wonks reached consensus that because the vast majority of crime was drug related, the goverment would do well to ban drugs and clean up the streets. These are only seen as terrible ideas AFTER the fact. Information is poison if it isn't the right type of information
>>
>>9881644
the issue with Iraq war was not the war itself but premature pulling out because cuck lefties and liberals cried for arabs.
>>
>>9881610

Because those ideas stem from Stephen "literally Goebbels" Miller and Stephen "literally President" Bannon, and thus they're not popular, they're reactionary, they're anti-globalist, they're anti-GOPe & DNC.

Not a single puppetmaster would allow themselves to take such a hit. It even shifts the overton window in a relevant manner when the greatest country currently takes this stance.

sure he didn't come to the decision alone, but it took him to sign USA away from them.
>>
>>9881988
If you say so, bud. I don't buy into your Hegelian view of current history. Politicausality is a tricky thing. I agree with you about Miller being Geobbels reborn as a Jew though. I was just talking with my brother about that a few days ago.
