Depends on the book. I do most of my reading without any music.
You have ambient noise all around you anyway.
If you need music to block out noise, use earplugs instead.

How can you concentrate on reading with this album in your ears? I know I can't, it's not ambient enough. Pure ambient albums are coherent and fairly consistent in terms of sound and mood, in my opinion.
Try Stalker by Robert Rich & B. Lustmord. Especially for anything fitting that mood like Lem's Solaris.
>>9548641
Wew. Do you often recommend this album? Because the previous post was the first time I even thought about this album in years for some reason.

I only listen to NIGHTCORE
I usually listen to music that matches the genre of what I'm reading. I'm reading Blood Meridian at the moment, so have a playlist Ennio Morricone Western movie themes.

I have a white noise machine I play. Sometimes I set it on rain , waves or waterfall but usually just white noise on full volume

I also find minimalist composers like Nils Frahm, Max Richter, Steven Reich, Philip Glass and Michael Nyman also work really well to help me focus while reading and studying. Sunn O))) and early Earth albums are also OK - oppressive and slow, heavy sounding but nothing too distracting.

Just use earplugs to block out the undesireable noise. It's one thing to play ambient music in the background through speakers, but actually streaming music directly into your ears while reading just seems like a pointless distraction.
Music is best listened to with full attention. Having music in the background for activities requiring concentration is plebeian, symptomatic of a short attention span and fidgeting.
>>9551062
Probably best off asking people on /mu/. I own a pair of Sennheiser though, they're a reliable brand.

in my personal opinion, if even ambient music doesn't hold your attention enough for you to read you have poor musical comprehension, and if you can't read without music you have poor focus.
Anyone have any decent recommendations for molded ear plugs? I really hate the shitty squishy disposable ear plugs, but I recently moved to a fairly loud area and it's really difficult to read because of all the noise.

Only good answers below citation.
And for all the other faggots and pretenders: Why would you listen to music while reading? If you are reading you are supposed to apreciate the aesthetics of Literature, the emotions and thoughts a book can conceive on you. Music modifies your mood, you are manipulating the reading experience. Seriously, you people have no respect for anything, neither the mediums you say to enjoy. You disrespect both Music and Literature when you mix then like it doesn't mean a thing.
