You're probably not, you just need to get acclimated to the language of Philosophy and familiarise yourself with the authors more. I was the same way, and I found that utilising online aids such as the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy helped a great deal. Don't feel discouraged about seeking help, once you do you'll find that you will develop a greater acclimation to it independently.
