Better choices would be PzGrenadier Div Grossdeutchland, Pz Lehr, 12th SS Pz HJ, 5th SS Pz Wiking. 7th Pz has an interesting story but it all depends on what story you want to tell. If you actually want the general population to read it Grossdeutchland or Lehr may be better choices as they were 'elite' divisions but were not SS (although they were often in the same Corps as SS divisions). Grossdeutchland was also unique in that it had organic Tigers.

I have a question on troop deployment
How do they get the new German soldiers from the training facility or wherever to the front? Never really knew how it happened, all I know is that most armies today use planes...

Depends on the Unit
Mounted units etc. However most of the time. Trains to the general area with their Equipment. Then if they are a mounted unit mechanized etc They get in their vehicles and motor their way to it. OR they walk.

Railway and then trucks or (mainly) horse wagons and marching. Much is said of the German usage of armored/mechanized units, but the reality is their logistics train was almost entirely Napoleonic once you left the vicinity of the railroads.

I always thought it would be interesting to chronicle an ordinary young German who is not a racial fanatic or a Nazi who joins the SS out of pragmatism (it's a job, if I do the regime won't question me and I'll be safe, etc).

So it follows his life before during and after the war. SS men, because the SS was basically deemed a terrorist organization after the war and disbanded--were not entitled to pensions or other benefits that soldiers in the army, navy or airforce could receive. If the story explored his continuing struggle after the war--maybe he's in poverty or something in addition to his guilt but things he did during the war or whatever.. I think it would make for really intriguing fiction.

I'd like to write that book. Would need to

1. Become way better at writing
2. Do an ass ton of research
3. Ideally learn German.

Oh well.

For this sort of book, you should do a lot of your own research about the soldiers you want to write about. The audience you're looking for wants accurate and detailed stories about the war.

You are on LIT. The anon/anons stated their pleasure in reading about German soldiers and their stories. Isn't that what literature is supposed to do? I personally have a raw fascination with German soldiers of this time period reading about their victories and pride. then raw despair and shame as they run out of ammunition and are forced to lose territory. Their raw terror as their depleted starving men are forced to man their positions against constant human wave attacks in the East. The pure terror of running out of ammunition and being forced to abandon a position or surrender can stir even sympathy.
