I agree, the penguin editions are just what the used book stores around me have. For my money oxford classics are the best 95% of the time. I have livy's early history someplace. The loebs are the golden ass, epic fragments, and a sampler.

I don't keep my books. Most of them are from the library, the ones I buy I give away. I almost never re-read books, so why waste a whole shelf? Moving with all those books must be a nightmare, too.

These don't seem like much worth reading, since their main value is showing the historical setting that spawned them, and aren't much in an artistic sense, so you would learn more by just taking a history class on that setting.

I actually didn't like as much as I thought I would. Heard great things about it, and yes I agree - the imagery was incredibly vivid and there were some great sequences. However the overall pacing and plotting felt languid, and maybe I was just mistaken in assuming it was a standalone novel but it did not feel very complete to me. I understand there are a few more books in the same universe but I'm not sure if I want to go out of my way to read them. The story felt a bit cliche to me overall.

I enjoyed Hyperion/Fall a lot. Endymion/Rise was kinda meh. I think Hyperion Cantos similarly had very vivid images, albeit of a more epic (in the mythological sense) variety as opposed to the more daunting and fathomless kind in Revelation Space. Hyperion felt more "literary" to me, which makes sense in how Simmons borrowed from canon literature for symbols and allusions.

Chicago university press set of the tragedies, published 1960 or so. Not sure where to get it now; I lucked out and got it at a used book store for $30.

And it's the Heritage press Decline and Fall. You can find some sets used online for <$30 in pretty great condition (usually only the slipcases are banged up). I got that one for $18.

To comment on the content, I don't like genre fiction but I think it's an otherwise good collection. Given your interest in psychology, I'd also like to recommend the novels/short stories/plays of Stefan Zweig and Arthur Schnitzler. They were more the contemporaries of Freud than Jung but I still think they both had a keen grasp of human psychology, and they both wrote really well, or you would probably enjoy symbolist or symbol-rich literature, e.g. Sophus Claussen, Isak Dinesen, or Rilke

My bookshelves start here >>8399364, I do keep languages separate and keep a couple of shelves of dictionaries and course books, and a few hiccups may exist, but I still think it provides the better overview, and books aligning makes it harder for books to hide behind other books when you look around the room

some of them are shit, 33 1/3 is just a publisher sorta deal.
But the ones I have are pretty good, the authors go into some detial with influences on the albums and publishing of the albums, band members, and the different techniques used to make the music.
Not the most in depth but still very informative and easy to read.

You should think about what albums you most enjoy and then try to find a copy online.
I liked them though so whatever that is worth you should try reading one.

I was lucky to get the Red Book cheap on eBay ... best thing about it is the paintings. Jung was an amazing painter IMO. Most of his works can be found online.

It is interesting, if not so much as a read, because of its place in the "critical canon." It represents Deleuze when he was still very much a Lacanian, and solving some of the problems he poses in that volume was pretty much D+G's jumping off point. It is not required to understand either Anti-Oedipus or 1000P, but if one is interested in Deleuzian scholarship, the idea of repetition as posed in that piece is interesting as a precursor of their conception of a "rhizomatic" text. Also, Difference is interesting in terms of being Anti-Oedipal - to situate it in with the premises of that book, Oedipal psychiatry homogenizes, encourages sameness and uniformity. This is a gross simplification, however-- Deleuze's difference is a concept in its own right, the way that Derrida's Differance is.

It is also interesting because in Zizek's infamous misreading of Deleuze, Organs Without Bodies (second in infamy only to Badiou's atrotious biography of D), Zizek makes the assertion that there are two Deleuzes - the Lacanian, and the one perverted by Guattari (lol). Difference and Retpetition, according to Zizek, is legitimate Lacanian scholarship, useful to Lacanian analysis in the way that the schizo stuff is not. (However- I have read a paper that contends that it is Deleuze who truly understands Lacan, and that Zizek's misreading of Deleuze betrays that Deleuze is actually a better Lacanian than his most famous disciple. I don't know if I agree with that contention, but it is a good paper. Can link uf requested.)

I'm not a fan of French post-modern philosophy, but what really bothers me is that there's more or less nothing else. Where are the Greeks? Descartes, Spinoza, Kant, Hegel, Hume, etc.?
