I think that with fiction its inevitable not to see even one trait of yourself in the characters. Even in subconscious manner.

Okay but fucking seriously. This is a writer that has somehow just with each sentence made me cringe. Not in particularly bad way. But something s deep and cutting, I just whistle "wheeewwww." It's not that it's "blunt" in its honesty. It's the composition of a simple sentences honesty. Jesus Christ, this book is so fucking simple yet so fucking heartbreaking.

I recommend on this board a lot, but I highly don't any anon has yet to read. But I beg someone please just read so I don't have all this shit-ton burden weighing on soul.

The letter in the middle 60 pages of And the Mountains Echoed is fucking amazing, too.

I came for the parallel-dimension Glasgow but wound up sticking with it for the author's self-insert autobiography.
I know a few emigrants of that same generation (postwar and early 50's), so Thaw's story really endeared itself to me.
And Gray understands what it's like to be a virginal autistic NEET faggot better than any author I've yet read; shit hit WAY too close to home.
