This is true. It's literally a crap shoot. Some people end up with decent jobs. Some become exploited adjuncts. And some resort to begging. It's not a ready recipe for happiness. Good luck, OP!

After putting so much effort into studying and doing research, once you start looking for a graduate job/phd you are entering a war field, because every extremely specialized project has tens or hundreds people applying for it. So after putting so much shit you cant be guaranteed for you future until you beat up other 100 people in an interview.

My friends are working minimum wage, reading lit and travelling. All are happy and this is what I want to do. All this struggle thinking "a few more years, after that I will enter this new phase and all will be good". But the same shit starts over again, same competitiveness for some vain narcissistic job/ego boost. After putting so much work I just can't accept backing out. I am too deep in all this to just quit, so I will just probably keep flowing in the same shit for 4 more years or so at least till I land something big. Even then it will probably be the same and I feel like am just fooling my self. Starting to doubt if I will ever reach happiness. (Top grades, STEM, graduating)
