I don't know the exact numbers, but I used to make it a little bit of a hobby for myself to follow the LDR exploits of friends and acquaintances, both from here and a couple of other internet communities. It was, most of the time, a disappointing mess for everyone involved. It's happened to me, too, with a woman I knew for a couple of years before we tried to get things happening in the real world, and yeah I'm bitter and jaded about it, but only so far as never wanting to give that avenue of love any more attempts, myself.

As for successes, it really depends on how you define a "success".

I'd love to chalk it up to confirmation bias, I really would, but the truth is the ordinary outcome I've seen is from friends and acquaintances that I personally kept in touch with, including followup.
