I'd say I'm generally more masculine than the average gay, just because no one usually thinks I'm gay unless I tell them so.

I think the fixation on muscular bearish dudes is just an effort to separate from the delicate/feminine twink look. I don't see it as a requirement to being masculine, though. I do lift but not to look masculine, but to get rid of the awful body I developed growing up because of illness/bad nutrition. I used to weigh 120 lbs at 6'1" and that was awful, not just for aesthetic purposes but also for practical ones. That being said, only this year I've started working on improving on that, and currently I'm still only 135lbs, but already looking a lot better (as in, I don't look about to die/already dead).

I do wish that the discussion here wasn't mostly about lifting, though. It'd be interesting to see what hobbies and interests other 'masc' gays have. The non-English one doesn't necessarily seem to be concealing his sexuality, whereas perhaps the British guy is just coming to terms with it, as opposed to being 'closeted'? I think it seems promising and sounds like it'll have a good soundtrack too.

Beautifully crafted the entire way. That betrayal scene though, fuck. It brought me back to my own experiences being gay without being a cinematic replica - which is something a lot of gay movies struggle with. They have a tough time relating to experiences in general without directly presenting it. It gets boring seeing gay movies where the trauma is the gay getting jumped, or being told their parents disown them. Yes it happens (duh), but this is cinema, you're free to express yourself in however you see fit so why not take it to that next level?

Helps that it was a book prior too though, resulting in more drafts before the movie is actually created.

I agree. I'm just rather bored of seeing same-sex romance films being filled with trauma and tragedy. I want to see REAL romance, affection, dating, etc., someone who goes through the difficult and challenging motions of finding someone and then have the film display the emotions that follow, but to do so in a realistic manner (i.e. it might not all be smooth sailing, and there may be arguments, but ultimately it's a strong bond that draws two individuals together).

Well in order for a romance to be interesting there has to be conflict that keeps the two apart. Gay romance has until recently literally been forbidden love which is why it's so easy for Hollywood to write it

IMO the best conflict for romance is the tsundere trope, or Pride and Prejudice. Two characters who initially dislike each other but eventually fall for each other. It's the main conflict in every one of the stories I've written
