I don't really know I didn't get to use them lol. I'm assuming they do because I didn't get any complaint at all although some of my colleagues started with a prejudge.
I only set them up and at first they were a PITA. The first set of mobo we got were asrock b350 and they sucked, had plenty of bugs, and couldn't run althe ram at rated frequency. We replaced those with x370 MSI ( I think it was those with the car on the packaging) and those worked a treat. We got a third one with a MSI pro carbon and it kept bugging at first but then it turned out it was winblows that didn't support the stuffs correctly, after a few updates it was fixed.
Those were upgrade from the top of the top the line Intel had when the last machines were constructed, so it probably just ended up compiling a bit faster.

Oftentimes it's nice to have your own machine that you can set up however you want and run whatever you want without dealing with wait queues, etc. I do all of my protein simulation work on my laptop, although I'm writing my own code so it's mainly for convenience, I have a faster turn around time when I want to make changes to the code this way.

AI were so bad you could win the campaign easily with samurai. No chance of the AI organizing into a a proper defensive firing line so a quick charge wasn't hard to do. Naval battles sucked in both games. In Shogun they were just plain boring, in FOTS my ships kept blowing up whatever I did. Idk why CA keeps plowing along with naval battles, they're always a half assed afterthought.

the economic issues of being low tech were pretty bad though, the ai has always been kinda bad, I played with a few mods that helped a bit

I never really had any issues with naval battles in shogun, mostly never did them though unless it was a big one, always liked the ship you got for getting the shogunate
