LSE is actually in Westminster city like, super close to Temple Station. of course stop-motion is a form of animation! and it's a extremely time-confusing form of it

i thought visually it was stunning, laika is really being allowed to innovate in a specific sub-type of animation because they're self-funded instead of revenue-driven

however, the story was a bit lacking, i thought coraline was a lot more fun to watch for that reason

as far as i know kubo is an original story and coraline was an adaptation from a book so it may just be that they don't have as strong of writers at the studio

Kubo's plot really bothered me, so many plotholes for something so basic.

My theory is because of how long it took to make the movie, the script went through changes during production but they couldn't just go back and redo the whole movie to match them.

Stuff like Monkey and Beetle being Kubo's parents doesn't feel like what the story was originally going for.

aku is a great character because he can be genuinely terrifying(like in the first episode where he just destroys jacks home like it's nothing) but he can also be a comedic villian too

there has to be contrast or samurai jack would have become this dark depressing story

also i think it's really fun that the ruler of the world has like soft drink commercials and stuff, it just drives home the point that aku is in every part of the future's society while making him more comedic

It didn't make sense since it nullified the mother's sacrifice, the monkey had no reason to hide it, the monkey didn't know about the origami magic initially, and it ruined the emotion behind the scene where they are eating and Kubo views them as pseudo parents.

This guy goes on a big fantasy adventure and literally the only two people he meets are his parents lmao

Not to mention stuff like them magically realizing the armor piece was under the water. The sword and armor not getting used at all in the final fight.

I thought it felt like a really good retelling of an simple, old folktale for like... 80% of the movie and then the last 20% felt like an original script that didn't go through too much review so it just sort of fell flat at the end which hurt it a lot.
