And it had the potential to cause harm. Someone bought drugs with their own money. No one got hurt, but the potential is there. Someone buys drugs with their own money and while getting high their infant child manages to walk outside and into traffic. I've seen a similar thing happen. There are punishments for things that have the potential to cause greater harm.

If they're fucked up on heroin, then they'd drive even fucking slower or fall asleep at the wheel because heroin makes you feel like you're wrapped in a blanket and tired as fuck. Coke, depending on how much you do-- just feels like too much caffeine, the whamming headache you can get, and it wakes you up from that tired drunk feeling when you're drinking. They'd have to do quite a bit before they're not ready to drive.
Basically alcohol is the worst legal drug ive seen sold instores. People get obnoxious, can't drink and drive, hurt other people and become dicks and being hungover sucks. And tabacco is disgusting. When police confiscate drugs, the price goes up but the demand stays the same because junkies need their dose. In order to finance their addiction. they commit crimes. It's a circle we should break.

Take Mexico for example. There drug cartels practically rule some parts of the country and violence is rampart. There's always enough poor sods to join the organised crime as foot soldiers because profits are massive. Prohibition era USA proves the point. Never has USA experienced such a rapid rise in organised crime.

And what has been achieved with this war against drugs? Absolutely nothing. Drugs are so profitable business some cartels have build submarines to smuggle the substances into USA. Fucking single use submarines are profitable investments because drug trade is so profitable.

Hence I say end this farce now. Legalize drugs and let the state sell it. It's the only way to kill organised crime.

And no, killing gangsters isn't a way. Pablo Escobar was slaughtered and it only made room for more cartels.

There are a number of drugs with a number of ways to damage the brain. I am aware of this. What are you trying to assert here? That drugs don't all have the same effect? Did I say all drugs cause the same effect? I was just stating that illegal drugs are illegal because of the potential harm that can come from them. Alcohol, while not illegal, is just as dangerous if not more. I didn't argue that the law is somehow correct all the time. I just said that drug use is not victimless. Drug use has many victims. Yeah, I think one guy might be. I don't mind going drinking one night a week or having a couple of drinks with friends on the weekend, but last weekend they drank all night Saturday, started drinking at brunch on Sunday and then continued to drink until about 9 pm. That's way too much for me. She and I have both talked about how we "can't party like them". So hopefully if I decide to limit my partying, she'll feel a bit better about going along with. It's kind of hard to be sensible when you're the only one doing it.
