Hunting is allowed, you can do so on private property with the permission of the owner or on game lands, which are like the national forests and stuff. Never tried hunting on game land so I can't speak to that.

Honestly if you want public land where you can go and not be fucked with you're going to have to go west, most land in NC became privately owned long ago, and most of our national forests and shit now are from donated land. I'm pretty sure pisgah national forest was donated by the biltmores.

That's exactly how it's done, but I personally prefer to just barely drill it like that to mark the location and then press the block back off and drill mine at 90. But as far as the original design goes I'm pretty certain that's why they did it. Him btw.

Also you don't seem to understand how Irons and something like a red dot or holographic sight are different. Plus if you're referring to a rifle with canted sights, yeah if you're changing the elevation with a ladder sight then it won't have issues. An optic with a BDC is fucked. An optic that isn't is still fucked, especially if you're zeroed at say... 100 yards and then shooting out to 250 yards by hold overs/aiming higher, your groups will start moving laterally.

in addendum, when using a red dot you should generally be using the lowest perceptible brightness setting to reduce dot size relative to the target. if you have a dot on max brightness and it looks like horseshit don't worry about it too much. if you go outdoors and it's bright outside any imperfections in the dot are attenuated

obviously use should be tailored to your circumstances. using a dot with NV, room clearing, daytime patrolling, etc. are all handled differently

for more subjective reference, the shittier of my weaver qwik points and my PRO are about the same level of suck in terms of having starburst dots in my left eye. kobra, PK-A Venezuela, and the FC1 are all great at max settings but the FC1 is a little more defined. in my right eye (non-dominant) everything (every single illuminated optic or image) looks perfect so fuck it all.

etched reticles do not bother me at all, they're more diffused

Fun fact, the version I've got on CD is a really early version without any overdubs and the master tapes of this version were destroyed in 1999ish because the guy who wrote the songs hated the old versions and re did them all with a bunch of overdubs. This CD version is /rare/

Practically this makes sense but evidently it wasn't seen as a problem with the SVD. Im having trouble reconciling the two. It seems like if the scope was off center to the left by an inch, and zeroed dead on at 100 yards, then at 200 yards the point of impact would be off by an inch to the left of center. But also it's worth mentioning that the scope mount, while crooked, is nowhere near 1" off the bore to the left or right. It's probably less than a quarter inch.

But if he wants to use it to mount a POSP, then the rings are built into the scope, and for a red dot you have the same deal, but for a red dot it shouldn't matter except in that it would be slightly more tricky to zero and a terrible eyesore.

Seems like if you zeroed a PSO-1 mounted on an SVD at 200m or whatever the doctrine is, then the BDC chevrons would have to be slightly off center below the main chevron to account for the scope being off center on the rifle.

If you imagine vectors coming out of the scope and barrel, ignoring bullet drop, and the scope vector intersects the barrel vector at 100m, the further you go beyond 100m the further off to the right the scope vector goes

I think this is correct, I remember reading about this being an issue with the M1D; because the scope was mounted off center the zero was basically only accurate at the distance at which it was set. The issue wouldn't be as severe with a slightly canted ak scope rail because it's more central to the bore, but it still isn't gonna be as accurate as it could be were the scope perfectly centered.

At a certain range, I believe 400m but don't quote me, and the reticle takes care of quick on the fly stuff, but the reticle can also be moved fast as shit, and you'd use the left right dial to make better accurate shots. I've been hunting for more doctrine information but haven't had time lately to confirm. But really the more I think about it the less I think it matters. If an SVD scope is off center 1" to the left and zeroed at 200 yards, then at the 600 yard chevron, the POI will be off by 2" to the left of bullseye. At 600 yards 2" is basically negligible. It's only a 4x magnification scope. Even if the BDC chevrons were slightly shifted to accommodate it would probably not be a noticeable difference.
