Point was shoulders are weak. Even on super strong buff people. The shoulders are stabilizer muscles. So saying lift more doesn't really mean much in this conversation.

Long engagements sporting heavy weight pressing down on shoulders will lead to fatigue and thus piss poor shooting.

This can be mitigated by moving weight rearward so there is less weight on that forward arm and your shoulder.

There is really no counter argument to this except that the rails don't look pretty to you.

After pretending to be an operator around the house a bit with the 3x fixed and the 1x-5x I decided to stick with the 1x-5x. If I needed the optic professionally though I would definitely get a lighter one like the Kahles K16i because mine weighs 21 ounces.

How important is illumination in a tactical scope?

I want to keep my light weight .308 light, but I also want a quality optic in the 3-12 or 3-15 range.

A Viper PST is 5 ounces heavier than the non-illuminated SWFA competitor.

Is the illumination worth the ounces? Rifle is under 7.5 lbs empty, want to keep it under 10 with suppressor and optic...

I think the rail mount 1 is closer to the size and output of the 300 series actually. I've seen quite a few 600 series SF lights on EE going for around 150 +/- mounting options, some other parts and heads as well if you want to build a good light setup on the cheap. Completely understand not wanting to spend that kind of money on illumination though. Some of the malkoff heads can be found for 85 new if you look around, and the Arisaka bodies for 60. Do what's best for your use and budget though. I've cheaped out on more important parts before and ended up regretting not just waiting longer and saving more. Just my opinion/experience though.

Honestly NTCH just plain out sucks for me. I took some half assed photos to show my sight pictures; left is what I see when I try NTCH, right is what I see when I extend the stock like I usually do and place my cheek on it. I get that part of NTCH is getting the same eye relief every time but I just can't handle it. My eye relief is the same each time without it, so should I just do my own thing?

Maybe this is different for different sight radii, I've got my rear all the way back on the upper, front is all the way forward on 15" handguard. I was taught shooting with irons on G3s with extended stocks, we were told to have a small ring of light between the rear sight ring and front sight ring. AR sights are new to me so the left sight picture just doesn't work, my groups open like hell
