Yes, the H buffer is a heavier buffer and will help increase dwell time on carbine and mid length gas systems (i.e. 99% of civilian ARs). The standard carbine buffer works, but it's sufficiently light that you may get malfunctions with hotter loads. An H buffer will generally have an H stamped on its face where the bolt carrier pushes on it. If you don't have one, it's a pretty simple and highly recommended upgrade that's worth doing. Depending on your gas system and gas port size, you may need an H2 buffer to further tame it, but start with the H buffer.

When I'm out hiking or camping I've always got my BHP with me. If I'm hiking and bring a long gun it's 95% of the time my vz.58 with a folding stock and 10 round mag in the gun and a few stripper clips in my pocket (maybe a loaded 30 round mag or two in my pack if I plan on plinking for a bit but mostly only like 30 or 40 rounds on me on clips) because that rifle in that configuration is really light and handy. If I'm camping and bring a long gun it's whatever I feel like bringing as I don't have to deal with weight as much, but mostly it's still the vz and occasionally my SLR104

As much as I love my AKs, my "oh shit" rifle is an AR. Plentiful spare parts, inexpensive magazines, and ammo commonality are important to me in that scenario. If I have to use it in self defense I'm not going to get asshurt when it sits in an evidence locker. I can order the parts to build another and have the exact same rifle put together in a couple days.

That and rebarreling AKs is a huge pain in the dick.

in the same boat. i appreciate the history as well as the mechanical design (not only of the firearm, but often of the machinery/processes to make them as well)
>>
>>35033100
I don't know why this exists, but I need it.
>>
>>35033107
imho no. It's easier to pop out the rear trunnion and replace it than have to tear everything off an install onto a new receiver.
Things of advice:
I made a template out of wood so that I could trace it with the dremel tool (that way it's hard to fuck up and look like a paki did the work).
It's a little bit of drilling and a hell of a lot of fitting with files if you want it to look nice. Expect to spend a couple of days fitting everything.
I'm sure you know that you need to put a reinforcement plate on the receiver too. You don't have to weld it on (but if you're a ak purist you need to spot weld it on).

It's not a hard job to do, but most smiths rape you in the labor costs since there are square angles (like the front latch) that basically have to be hand filed.
>>
>>35033062
Just buy another parts kit, barrel, etc and have a side folder built.
>>
>>35033079
Doesn't sound crazy. A firearm is a tool and different tools for different jobs. The area you live in should dictate more then personal preference.

Blue force gear padded vickers. It's actually back on an AR right now since I had it set up too short and didn't feel like fiddling with it. The AUG is just a weird rifle for me to do sling stuff with. I've got about 4 or 5 rifles that need slings so I'll chuck another one on the order and set one up specifically for it.

If you had the proper tool for an ak build it would probably only take a few hours. Labor wise it is going to take less time.
However, I don't really like removing and reinstalling barrels on aks. As long as you use the same trunnion and barrel your headspace will stay the same. There was one of the big ak builder guys that made pricey but very good replicas of a lot of variants. I'm sure someone knows here knows him, I can't remember. Anyway, he didn't like removing ak barrels at all. He said that removal and reinstall could cause the chamber to deform especially on soft barrels. What he would do is use high quality screws for installing the front trunnion and would tig weld the ends to look like original rivets. He was also one of the few guys who would dimple Saiga magwells back in the day.

Use the cash you have to buy another parts kit, the rear trunnion and stock, barrel first. If it takes a year until you have the money to get the receiver and have it built, so be it. You won't be happy with just one converted rifle.

I really like the extended rail. When I bought it, I kind of had an ACOG or possibly some other magnified optic in mind since I don't have one yet and I know eye relief for them is pretty short. The only problem I've come across is the standard mount for the PRO can get in the way of the charging handle if it's not mounted back far enough. The height is perfect though. I definitely would pick it again given the option

Double and single hook two point Russian slings. Bulgarian slings can be meh sometimes. Russian slings best slings, mustard, green, brown, doesn't matter! They're all incredibly durable and stupid simple. Much more durable than a lot of the Bulgarian trash slings (especially the commercial ones), etc

No, from Pennsylvania. I just like to visit UA. I made contact with Strela last year and bought some stuff. Then told Maxim I was going to be in Kharkiv and he met with me for awhile one night. I have flash-hiders and muzzle brake from them. All of which are very good. You'll like it, though it does change the way the weapon handles a bit. I'm looking forward to the rest of their releases for this year.

I'm considering that more and more. Is the import of parts kits always pretty spotty? I've been looking online and there are a few here and there, but it seemed it was pretty saturated a couple years ago. I'm going to a big guunshow next weekend and I'll see what they've got there, but is there any import stop, panic buying with kits?

Right now it's slow b/c everybody is either at war or getting ready for WW2 2 electric boogaloo so nobody wants to cut up decent service rifles. Same reason we never get pkm kits. Nobody wants to cut them up, and certainly not for cheap

Yes

That's because it's pretty spotty
>I'm going to a big guunshow next weekend and I'll see what they've got there,
Don't bother. Gunshows are shit for AK stuff anymore. Don't go to a gunshow unless you have zero expectations of finding anything and just want to burn some time.

It's like any surplus imported thing, it's there while it there and then it's gone.

I don't know all of it. He couldn't tell me. But I know there should be one new muzzle brake. So far it looks like some odd and ends released on their Ukrainian website, but nothing substantial. At any rate, have you tried any of their products? You can order from Legion or directly from them.

I want a 7.62x39 AK with a folding stock so I can get it as compact as possible as a vehicle gun or outdoors gun. The 24mm FSB of the SLR-107fr makes it a little too long for my taste so it's out of the question. Should I go for a side folder or under folder? A side folder would be easier because I can just buy a WASR and add the stock, but under folders are cool too. Which is faster to deploy from folded to extended?

I've already got an SGL-31 but I want something in 7.62x39, otherwise I would just put a folder on my SGL.

Unless you are dead set on an ak, you should really be eying a vz58 instead IMO. You can whip that gun from folded to ready so damn fast.
And strippers are easier to carry with in small belt pouches or in pockets and speed-load mags super fast.
Most ak folders need to be babied from position to position so it's not all the convenient beyond storage reasons.

I'll look into it, if I can find a cheaper Century from someone not wanting $700+ for one I'd prefer that if I decide on a VZ. I don't need to spend the money on a CSA one if I'm just going to be beating it up

the only reason to fold a stock is if you need to pile extra tight into an APC/deuce with a bunch of sweaty men

the real advantage of the VZ58, among other things, is its smaller profile and standard aluminum mags

I'm not a believer in "entry/starter" guns. I just see that as wasted money when you should have just saved up for what you really wanted in the first place.
But the century guns were an absolute steal for 400 bucks.
>>

>>
>>35040925
Not that I ever heard of. They were a solid buy.
>>
>>35040925
Early Century vzs had some real problematic issues but that was long before the $400 deal. By the time those were around they were generally ironed out
>>
>>35040958
If you are referring to the trigger "gremlin" then I thought that was an issue on the actual cz rifles too for a while.
>>
>>35041006
Century vzs had the gremlin problem but also just typical shitty Century build problems too. Like I said though that was early on, long before the $400 guns and when Czechpoints/CSAs were a lot cheaper than they are now. The gremlin is an issue on all semi auto vzs, the carrier needs a tab welded on it to prevent the issue. The problem was that CSA/Czechpoint had that very simple solution patented and Century had to make their own workaround for it. People used to send their Century bolt carriers off to get the tab welded but I believe Century ultimately fixed the issue with their guns by redesigning the FCG
