I come from /lit/
I am again seriously considering enlisting. I am in less than ideal physical shape but know more about guns than your average gunowner, despite being nogunz.

Anyway, if there's anyone exmilitary, what singular work of philosophy or literature would you advise to be carried with you in all deployments?

or just any books i should read before making this decision to better inform myself as to what i might be puttng myself through

Just anything to get me hyped or dissuade me or whatevs,

And realistically, how much free time might I have to study/read/write while serving?

Knowing cawadooty gun stats doesn't not make you a valuable asset as a marksman. It makes you an autistic sperg who will more than likely get this ass kicked for talking about guns despite not knowing at all how to use one.

You are starting from zero if you enlist.
>>
>>35008172
If you read during deployment it doesnt make you look like a warrior philosopher, other dudes will call you a pussy.
But thats still the case for you even if you dont join right?
>>
>>35008172
Carry a bible, just so if or when you get shredded by an IED, if there is a big man upstairs, hes got your back. Gotta cover them bases. But otherwise, you have a massively romanticised version of what you think war will be like. It mainly consists of getting shot at by blurs hundreds of metres away, if you can see them at all, eating shit food, and jerking off in a portaloo twice a day. The best thing you can bring with you is porn and movies on an external hard drive.

Now I'm not saying you're full of shit, but you definitely have a distinct smell about you.
>>
>>35008444

its not that hard to learn about things without using them hands-on, especially with the internet.
>>
>>35008465
True, but if he was interested in guns, I would've thought he'd already be a lurker here. There are plenty of very informative threads among the detritus.

It just raises a red flag in my mind.

>I am in less than ideal physical shape

>despite being nogunz.

Why do nogunz always think they know more? Take your pretentious ass back to /lit/ where you can circle jerk to philosophy that is provably false but remain in denial because you absolutely must fit in with the rest of the pseudo-intellectuals who can hardly understand what it is that they are even discussing in the first place. Begone noguns.
>>
>>35008465
Quoting the numbers and fun facts is not the same as knowing how to use them. I would rather fight next to a good shooter that calls a mag a clip than next to some sperg who has the ballistic tables for Remington green box memorized.

>I read all about sky diving so I understand more than a jump master

Your arrogance will only get you hazed. Please join the military so you become humble and stop with this retarded sense of entitlement.

Heart of Darkness and whatever extremely long, lore heavy book series you can get into e.g 40k, LotR, GoT, or since you're from lit, maybe Goosebumps and Animorphs
>>
1. Get in reasonable shape, or you'll be in the pork chop platoon for a long time

2. Walk in as a blank slate. You know nothing. If you're willing to learn, great. If you act like you know shit and prove otherwise, you're worse off. They will make you pay.

3.Whatever your expectations are, prepare to be disappointed. Even if you expect nothing, you will be let down. Every day.

Don't worry about what lit to bring on deployment when you aren't even close to boot camp yet.

You have as much time to read/write as you make for yourself, but god help you if you have other shit to do. (you always do)

Be real with me, what shape are you in?
>>
>>35008172
>/lit/fag thinks knowing facts about guns is in anyway useful in the military
Nigga, they don't care if you're an anti-gun liberal so long as you can learn to shoot, being in shape is infinitely more important that knowing the difference between a short stroke and long stroke piston.

Don't you have a Kafka thread to go circlejerk in?
>>
>>35008184
I'm not gonna go dropping gun stats in some sorta knowledge virtuesignal sperg crap

I'm just asking about any possible recommended literature which accurately outlines and portrays the process of enlistment and presents the average experience in an unbiased way.

>>35008203
Not interested in looking like a "warrior philosopher" lmao, reading/writing are just important for my emotional and mental wellbeing. I'll get a fuckin kindle if need be.
>>35008233
so are you saying there's just not going to anywhere near enough downtime to make it worth the effort or what?
>>35008444
>>35008465
>>35008477
lurking /k/ when you own no guns is just self-imposed cuckoldry
at least I actually already have a library
>>35008487
why was that pretentious
My best friend is /k/ and he's taught me a good bit and i like going to the range with him and i like looking at all the separate parts and diagramming them and taking them down and putting them back together. I mean I'm sure a lot of that didn't stick but the average gunowner's ive encountered down here in texas typically they own at most 1 longarm, 1 handgun. And they couldn't tell you a damn thing about either one beyond round size. Not exactly a threshold set high.

>>35008172

So go to the general dumbass.

I'm 6'0, around 140lbs.
Was bigger like ~155, lost like 15 pounds rapidly in the past two months :///

I'm in decent, but suboptimal cardiovascular health, legs are pretty strong still, arms are pretty atrophied, would be surprised if I could bench lik 140 with where im at.

Im living with my grandma and there's not much in the way of eh, any food, so im a fuckin shrinkidink.

Knowledge about guns won't help you much in the military. It's more about keeping yourself calm after your unit is getting ITed cause a cunt sneezed in formation. You'll made fun of if you wanna be all warrior philosopher, unless your a baddass like Mattis, even then I bet he was made fun of. You will have plenty time to read and study though during standbys and shit. Pretty sure if you do join you'll be in logistics or finance, which there's no shame in being but rifle warrior philosopher knowledge ain't gonna do shit there. Last thing, if you're mentally strong you can physically overcome pretty much anything.

DESU I know your type and I'm prtty sure you don't know shit about guns and your not going to join.

Starship Troopers. Read it before you even talk to a recruiter.

I read this as a teenager. It's about the Corps and the methods and training specifics are outdated. they probably don't run the same drills today, but it gives a good impression on what to expect.
