Well, yesterday I ND'd while clearing my fucking gun.

Apparently I got so used to clearing it that I wasn't even actually looking to make sure it was clear... I was just automatically going through the motions. The gun I was using has no way to decock but pulling the trigger, so that's part of the steps of clearing it.

I still don't really know how it happened... the best I can figure is that I was in such a hurry I didn't pull back the handle far enough to actually eject the round, and didn't actually look in the chamber, so it went off when I pulled the trigger to decock it.

Fucking went through one wall, one door, and into the floor. And I'm fucking renting and was planning to move out soon. I'm just lucky no one heard.

Never actually had an ND, but I've caused a couple on purpose. I've found that a gun going off unexpectedly gets people to handle it safer than a dozen lectures about the golden rules.

Whenever I introduce someone to shooting, I take them out to the range, load my 10/22, and fire it a few times to show them how it works. Then I drop the magazine and tell them to "dry fire" it at the target a few times. When the round in the chamber goes off and scares the shit out of them I remind them of the first rule of firearm safety.

Luckily I was smart enough to have the thing pointed down range the whole time I was doing this stuff and the mag fell out right after as if to tell me why I was failing.
Given that this was the first .45 I'd ever shot it was a quite embarassing and sobering experience, even as careful as I was being I still managed to do something dangerous.

Almost everyone who spends a significant amount of time handling firearms will have a ND.
Most likley a safe one in which the firearm is pointed into the ground or downrange.
The important thing is to never repeat it if it does happen, and explain to others how easily it can happen so they dont repeat your mistake.

Except in my almost 15 years I havent had issue because I follow all the rules to the best of my ability cause accidents do happen. I'm saying to argue everyone will ND is stupid.
