ASR is the active spring retention iirc. It is a QD mount that interfaces with SiCo muzzle devices and locks up solid.

Previously SiCo made a can called the saker which used the saker muzzle devices (pic related, saker muzzle device). The Saker muzzle devices were solid but sort of sucked for the QD mounting. Silencerco re-released the saker cans with the ASR mount for 2017.

You have that backwards. The ASR was made for the Specwar, it preceded the MAAD ("Saker mount") by a year or two. Because the Saker has a modular mount, ASR is offered as a legacy alternative, it is neither newer nor necessarily superior to MAAD.

I have heard of people fucking up MAAD mounts by not lining them up correctly but I've never heard of one breaking. ASR is minutely more idiot-tolerant because it's just a huge coarse thread, however the locking teeth can wear out or fail to engage. It's also easy to pinch skin or a glove in the stop pin while locking or unlocking the collar of an ASR mount.

tl;dr Neither is superior but IMO I would pick the MAAD for quick mounting if given the option.

Just to be clear, the ASR threads are huge, they'll never wear out. It's the teeth under the locking collar that can round over so they won't bite as hard anymore. SilencerCo will (or at least did in the past) replace rounded teeth for free, but it can happen.

I did it to mine the second time i installed the suppressor, I tried to see how strong the lock was by trying (hard) to unscrew it with the lock engaged. It came off with a BZZZZZZT and it wouldn't lock as hard again because all the teeth ground down. SilencerCo sent me a new lock ring.

No, it's all good, even SF's system is good.

Just be aware of the potential problems and you can avoid them easily. Like for example, don't try to crank a LOCKED ASR suppressor off the god damn muzzle device like an idiot, and make sure the MAAD is lined up correctly before you start turning it down. Keymount can be fucked up by dummies too, if you turn the locking collar by hand, you can pop a detent out out of the ratcheting collar and seize the whole thing up, making it unmountable.

I almost single handedly made PSA a meme by shilling them as the budget friendly option. I've never had an issue with the dozen or so I own.

I've SBR'd 3 of their lowers/uppers, and have another 2 uppers on standard configurations. I've been satisfied with the products.

Their shipping times and customer service have been garbage though, and I've run into a few minor QC issues (one of my brakes wasn't installed with enough torque).

TANSTAAFL. What you save in money, you give up in customer service. Personally, I'm fine with that bargain.

I use a 28-75 for 90% of everything. If you want to look up specifics, it's a Tamron SP 28-75. They're very inexpensive for lenses, I think they're down to around $200 now, fuck, I paid a lot more years ago.

Anyway, it's not ideal for everything on a croped APS-C sensor like you and I have because you lose a lot at the wide end, but it's a fast lens (f2.8) and it's known for being exceptionally sharp for the price, superior to any non-L kit lens.

For $200, I can't believe how good a lens this is. Especially if you find one that's been recently cleaned and serviced so it's in excellent order.
